Pink Tutu Milan #1315: A Whirlwind of Culture and Colour

Ciao Bella!

This is Emma, your Pink Tutu girl, reporting live from the fashion capital of the world – Milan, Italy! It feels surreal to be back here, inhaling the heady mix of leather, espresso and chic Italian style. As I pen these words, I’m sitting in a charming café on Piazza della Scala, the scent of freshly brewed coffee mingling with the sounds of laughter and chatter. I simply can’t get enough of the energy of this vibrant city, it's positively electric!

Wednesday arrived with a burst of sunshine, just begging to be explored. And explore I did! My pink tutu twirled happily along as I embarked on a whirlwind adventure through Milan’s fascinating world of culture and fashion. It all began with a ballet class in a studio tucked away in the heart of Brera. The soft, delicate pirouettes and elegant leaps filled the studio, the music a magical backdrop to the artistry of movement. Ah, there’s just nothing like feeling the stretch in your muscles and the joy of the dance flowing through your veins. It’s a feeling that never gets old, even after all these years!

This morning, the aroma of freshly baked bread was almost enough to draw me in! It’s a constant temptation in this city of gastronomic delights. I found myself wandering through the vibrant Mercato Centrale, a haven of vibrant colours and tantalising aromas. The sheer abundance of deliciousness was almost overwhelming – the rainbow of fruits and vegetables, the rows of creamy cheeses and fresh-caught seafood. Oh, the endless possibilities for deliciousness!

Later, I took a leisurely stroll along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, mesmerized by the grand architecture and captivating displays of window-shoppers. Each storefront seemed to compete in its bid to captivate your attention with intricate designs and vibrant colours. A shopper’s paradise! This street is also home to one of the most stunning Milanese landmarks, the Duomo di Milano, or Milan Cathedral, and it’s hard not to feel a sense of awe when standing before its imposing beauty.

Speaking of captivating displays, I simply had to experience a theatrical spectacle for myself, and Milan did not disappoint! I secured tickets for a ballet show at Teatro alla Scala. This esteemed venue boasts not just magnificent architecture but also world-class performers. Tonight’s production was nothing short of breathtaking – the sheer artistry, the elegance, the drama. The costumes were magnificent, the music a magical blend of emotion and sound. It was an evening I will never forget!

You know what I love about these European city trips? It’s not just the sights and sounds; it’s also the adventure of exploring their unique transport systems. And this week, I have been making good use of the Tram, which zips and zags through the narrow streets, allowing you to really soak up the city's essence. There’s something wonderfully charming about these vintage vehicles, with their wooden seats and slightly bumpy ride, a gentle rocking that reminds me of the rocking horse I had as a little girl. It adds an element of intrigue and adventure to every journey! I swear I even saw a cat casually lounging in one tram, so incredibly cool!

Milan’s streets were buzzing with life tonight. I took a walk along Corso Buenos Aires, a bustling shopping district. You’d be hard-pressed to resist the call of colourful shops, tempting window displays, and bustling trattorias. It was like a kaleidoscope of vibrant colours, delicious smells, and vibrant conversations. And of course, no journey is complete without sampling the local fare! My dinner tonight was a culinary delight. A delectable symphony of flavors - perfectly grilled salmon, a rich and creamy risotto, and a heavenly slice of Tiramisu for dessert!

So, dear friends, I’m back in my little Pink Tutu Milan apartment, surrounded by the echoes of the city’s magic. As I write these words, I feel incredibly grateful for the life I’ve built around my love for dance and the joy of discovering new cultures. Each day brings something unexpected and beautiful, each place I visit opens up new horizons, and I feel my soul growing richer with every adventure!

For those who may be curious, today, the 19th of August 2020, marks the 18th birthday of the International Day of the Pink Tutu. It's a global celebration of all things tutu – pink or otherwise. So let's raise a toast (or a glass of Prosecco in this case) to the sheer magic of tutus and all they represent! Let your spirit soar, your heart dance, and don't be afraid to wear your pink tutu proudly.

Keep sparkling, Emma
