Pink Tutu Milan: #1337 - A Ballet-tastic Adventure in the Fashion Capital!

Hello, darling darlings! It’s your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, back with another post from the dazzling city of Milan. Today is Wednesday 20th January 2021, and this week I'm positively buzzing with excitement!

Milan has been a whirlwind of glamorous discoveries so far. It's got to be the most stylish city I've ever visited, and with a huge dose of ballet happening all over the place, I'm feeling truly at home. You guys know how much I love a good ballet, and a city where tutus are practically a uniform is heaven for a girl like me!

Today, however, I'm ditching the pink tutu for a quick trip to the famous La Scala Opera House. You can't come to Milan without experiencing this legendary theatre, it’s on every ballerina’s bucket list!

The magic of La Scala: a ballet lover's paradise

Before I head off, though, let me tell you all about this iconic place. I had no idea it would be so vast, and absolutely breathtaking! Even the tram journey to this grand opera house is an event, gliding through Milan's streets, soaking in the vibrant energy, and watching the elegant buildings whisk by.

Walking up the grand marble steps of La Scala, I swear I could practically hear the sound of applause! Inside, the theatre is absolutely spectacular. A beautiful, red-velvet draped ceiling and breathtaking chandeliers glitter overhead. They say the acoustics are incredible – imagine hearing an entire opera performance here, I'd die!

This time, though, I'm going to experience the incredible architecture with a guided tour, rather than watching a full opera.

I have to admit, I felt a little apprehensive stepping into this historic space. I imagined the grand ladies of the past looking down at me with disapproval, maybe even judging my flamboyant pink tutu... But my worries quickly evaporated, the guides were so friendly and welcoming!

Fashion, food and… a surprising encounter?

So, let’s talk about my other obsession, besides ballet - fashion! This place is practically a shopper's paradise, with boutiques literally spilling out onto the streets! From sleek designer handbags to dazzling jewels and fabulous vintage clothing shops, there's something for every style imaginable.

Yesterday, I found this beautiful pink tulle skirt, perfect for twirling! And after the tour, I'm heading to one of my favourite cafes in Milan - it has the most delicious cappuccino and tiramisu (you know how I love a sweet treat)!

My adventure in Milan isn't just about dancing and fashion though. It’s also about connecting with fellow ballet lovers. Yesterday, as I was wandering through a gorgeous park, I saw a group of young girls practicing ballet. I couldn’t help but stop and admire their passion! It was just a bit of casual practice in the sunshine, but you could just see how much joy they get from it. They gave me the warmest smile – it's amazing how ballet can connect people!

I decided to join them for a few minutes, showing them a couple of steps – the “attitude” position, a beautiful arabesque… and suddenly, I realised I was twirling a pink ribbon alongside a group of Italian girls. How fabulously unexpected, and just utterly delightful. It was so good to share this with other ballet lovers, you know?

Ballet Inspiration: My Milan Ballet diary

Right now, I'm utterly smitten with Milan’s thriving ballet scene. Today I have plans to watch some incredible professional ballet dancers. There’s an absolutely exquisite program featuring a mix of classical pieces and innovative contemporary choreographies at Teatro dal Verme. I’ll be posting photos and reviews later on my Instagram. It's pretty inspiring to be surrounded by such amazing talent!

Even though I have my heart set on joining a professional ballet company one day, I always love watching and learning from the experts. My ballet training helps me develop my own dance style. As I'm getting more and more comfortable dancing, my passion for expressing myself through movement keeps getting stronger.

There’s so much to be said for just watching these seasoned professionals at work. The grace, power and passion of these performers is truly mesmerising, it just feeds my soul. This evening’s show promises to be full of breathtaking artistry! I just love getting lost in the magic of ballet.

A Pink Tutu for everyone

As you know, I absolutely love pink tutus, and I believe they can be incredibly empowering for every person. It's about finding that thing that makes you feel beautiful and confident - it doesn’t need to be a tutu! It’s all about expressing yourself and embracing who you are. I’m always delighted to see more and more people stepping out of their comfort zone and trying something new!

In Milan, I’ve been amazed at the number of young people embracing ballet, from all different backgrounds! So many dancers are passionate about the artistry of this dance form, and it’s simply infectious! I love seeing people let go of their inhibitions and twirl! I'm determined to spread the joy of dancing and empower others to express themselves. And maybe one day, everyone in Milan will be wearing a pink tutu! Isn’t that a magical vision?

So there you have it, darlings. Another fantastic day in fabulous Milan!

I’m off now to see a bit more of the city and hopefully capture some of its stunning beauty to share with you all.

Make sure you check out my Instagram and Twitter feeds – I’ll be posting loads of pictures!

See you all back here next Monday with a new installment of Pink Tutu Milan. Keep twirling, my darlings, and never forget to shine brightly!

Lots of love,

Emma xo
