Pink Tutu Milan #1369: Bonjour from Bella Milano!

Buongiorno, my darlings! Emma here, writing to you from the fabulous city of Milan! Can you believe it’s Wednesday already? It feels like I just arrived! This week, I’m positively brimming with excitement as I delve into the cultural delights of this Italian fashion capital. Think exquisite fabrics, delectable pastries, and a ballet scene that will simply take your breath away.

As always, my pink tutu has been accompanying me on this adventure, making me feel like a real princess in this enchanting city. Honestly, I’ve had so many stares and compliments – and who wouldn’t? The combination of this shimmering pink tutu and Milan’s chic streets? Absolutely irresistible!

Before I tell you about all the fun, let’s go back a little bit, shall we? The journey here was just divine, you know? From my cosy little flat in Derbyshire, I hopped onto the train with a book, a magazine, and my trusty pink ballet bag, filled with all my ballet essentials – think hairnets, extra tights, and my secret weapon, a calming chamomile tea for pre-performance nerves. It was just lovely watching the English countryside whizz by before I reached the Channel Tunnel and finally made my way across Europe. The journey on the Eurostar was smooth as silk – oh, and the croissants, so delicious! I managed to do some shopping too, of course, finding a lovely pair of ballet shoes with delicate pink ribbons – it really felt like I was walking into a fairytale!

Milan: A Ballet Lover's Paradise

But now, back to the star of the show, Milano! You can just feel the artistic buzz in this city – there's this captivating energy that's all about fashion, artistry, and a certain je ne sais quoi. And speaking of artistry, the Milanese ballet scene is truly phenomenal. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this trip since I found out that the Teatro alla Scala was staging “La Bayadère.” It’s my absolute dream ballet – the sets, the costumes, the sheer romanticism… just exquisite! The graceful leaps and expressive movements by the dancers had me totally spellbound, lost in a world of dreams and magic.

Oh, and speaking of costumes… let me tell you, there were more elaborate tutus and stunning dresses on display in this opera house than I’ve seen in my entire life! Talk about inspiration! After the show, I strolled through the city centre and popped into a few little ballet shops. Can you believe I found a pink sparkly headpiece that matched my tutu perfectly? Now I’m just dying to try it out on stage. I just know my ballet classes in the coming weeks will be full of extra twirls and leaps!

Exploring Milan in Style

Now, let’s not forget about Milan’s glorious architecture. The Milan Duomo… wow! Imagine a cathedral, all intricate spires and gorgeous stained glass windows. It truly took my breath away, even as I gawked at the towering pink façade from the street level, all I could think about was, “What a perfect spot for a photoshoot with my pink tutu!” Sadly, that might be pushing my luck, though.

And who can resist exploring the chic boutiques in the Via della Spiga or the fashion houses on Via Monte Napoleone? My dear, shopping is like a whole other world in Milan. Let's just say my suitcase is feeling quite full already, thanks to all the irresistible balletwear, shoes, and oh, that gorgeous vintage hat with a delicate pink ribbon!

Milan really does offer something for every taste – there are some fantastic food markets bursting with colours and aromas. Think freshly-baked breads, juicy fruits, and oh, those scrumptious pasta dishes! The aromas alone have been making my mouth water! I can’t resist trying some authentic Italian cuisine – and, of course, I always finish off my day with the sweetest, most delicious gelato. It wouldn’t be a trip to Italy without it, would it?

Living Like a Ballerina in Milan

I also made sure to check out the Teatro degli Arcimboldi, a fabulous performance space with its own dance academy. Can you believe I actually saw the “La Traviata” ballet in an extraordinary location. This show was the complete opposite of "La Bayadère". “La Traviata” was performed with modern and very different sets and a powerful interpretation that I found intriguing and even thought provoking.

The tram rides are another Milan experience not to be missed! The combination of a little pink tutu, a vintage tram, and the bustling city life… oh, it was just delightful!

Let’s just say, Milan is not only about exquisite fashion and grand opera houses, but it’s also about feeling alive and experiencing the magic of the everyday – something I truly appreciate as a ballet dancer.

Pink Tutu's Top Tips for Milan

So, to help you get the most out of your Milan trip, here are my top tips:

  • Pack light. The temptation to buy clothes and accessories in Milan is massive, but you’ll have more space for those precious souvenirs, especially if you happen to find the most adorable ballet shoes, or those gorgeous silk scarves with delicate floral motifs!
  • Embrace the vibrant city life. Take a walk through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, grab a gelato at one of the charming cafes, or lose yourself in the beautiful art collections at the Pinacoteca di Brera. The city is your oyster, darling!
  • Enjoy the street performers and artistic vibe. Don’t be surprised if you stumble upon a spontaneous opera performance or some incredible street dancers - and let's not forget the magic of ballet on the streets. It's an authentic experience, so embrace the Italian passion and joie de vivre.

This week in Milan, my darlings!

My diary for this week is overflowing with ballet magic and captivating experiences:

  • Tuesday: An afternoon class at The Teatro degli Arcimboldi’s dance academy to keep my muscles moving! The teacher was so encouraging – even with my fancy pink tutu on!
  • Wednesday: I spent this delightful afternoon exploring Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, which is a true masterpiece! Imagine an opulent shopping arcade with a stunning glass dome. This architectural marvel makes me want to just twirl around!
  • Thursday: The must-see show is “La Traviata” in its modern setting – prepare to be mesmerised.
  • Friday: Time to catch a performance at the world famous Teatro alla Scala.
  • Saturday: Today is my must-have-lunch day in the Piazza del Duomo!
  • Sunday: An unforgettable brunch in the Parco Sempione – perfect for an elegant pink tutu look! This park, filled with green spaces and sculptures, is perfect for a tranquil morning stroll after a fulfilling week. Oh, and let’s not forget a delicious glass of prosecco!

I am just overflowing with excitement, darling, for the adventure to unfold. I have an appointment tomorrow with a fabulous boutique near The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II – I’ve been told that the owner is very charming and she sells beautiful pink satin ballerina slippers with delicate rhinestones – the perfect finishing touch for any dance outfit!

Stay tuned for my next blog post as I delve deeper into the fashion and ballet treasures that Milan holds.

Ciao, my darlings, and until next week, keep shining bright!
