Pink Tutu Milan: #1388 Wednesday 2022-01-12

Buongiorno, darlings! It's Emma, your pink tutu-wearing correspondent, writing to you from the glamorous, fashionable city of Milan, Italy! The sunshine is streaming through my window at the Grand Hotel, casting a warm, rosy glow across my favourite pink tutu (which is, of course, sparkling with sequins - every ballerina needs a touch of glamour, don't you think?). Today is Wednesday, and you know what that means? It's time for another fabulous Pink Tutu Milan adventure!

This week, I'm absolutely buzzing with excitement, because my week in Milan is shaping up to be a real fairytale. I’ve managed to book a fantastic show, a ballet class in the heart of the city and, of course, some serious shopping – can't have a day in Milan without it, can we?

Now, I must tell you all about my travels getting to this delightful Italian city. I’ve become rather partial to travelling by train, especially when it involves venturing across Europe. Something about the rhythmic clinking of the tracks and the changing landscapes that whiz past the windows is so enchanting – like being transported into a beautiful storybook! Plus, trains always have that lovely, old-fashioned feel, don't they? The aroma of hot chocolate in the carriage, the friendly chatter between fellow passengers, the hushed whispers of excited tourists. It's truly charming.

And Milan is such a dream! Imagine a city bursting with culture, art, and of course, breathtaking fashion – it's like stepping into a high-fashion magazine! The air is filled with the rhythmic beat of the city, with cars, trams, and, most importantly, the sweet melodies of the operatic singers I seem to always stumble upon while strolling through the cobbled streets! And everywhere you look, there are fashion-forward boutiques bursting with elegant dresses, gorgeous shoes, and chic accessories – enough to make even the most experienced shopper dizzy!

Let’s rewind back to Monday. After arriving from Derbyshire, my beautiful home county, I arrived at Milan Central Station. I have to tell you, this station is a sight to behold! It’s magnificent - enormous, airy, with huge chandeliers and vaulted ceilings. Just being in this impressive space is almost an event in itself! The air is buzzing with people – commuters, tourists, street musicians. All I can say is it's pure sensory overload in the best possible way!

My favourite part, however, is the vibrant café in the heart of the station. It's just steps away from the hustle and bustle of the arrival platform, and you'd be amazed at how quickly it can transform into your very own haven. Picture this: soft music playing gently in the background, sunlight dappling through the elegant window panes, and the irresistible scent of fresh coffee wafting through the air. It's a slice of pure tranquility in the heart of Milan’s chaotic yet wonderfully captivating symphony.

And of course, no trip to Milan is complete without a delightful visit to the Piazza del Duomo! The impressive Duomo di Milano (also known as the Milan Cathedral), is truly spectacular, and it seems like the whole city wants to be seen next to it! I always find the buzz of the square around the Duomo very charming. From street musicians serenading tourists, to bustling groups taking photos of the Duomo, and the aroma of delicious food drifting through the air – it is an absolute must for any visitor to Milan. And let’s not forget, there’s also the impressive shopping arcade Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II! You’d be forgiven for getting lost in its opulent beauty.

But today’s agenda is about ballet! The Teatro alla Scala, which is literally across the road from my hotel, is hosting an exclusive gala show tonight, which of course, I have tickets for! The show is entitled "An Evening of Enchantment" with performances from international ballerinas and a few guest performances. I'm told that there are some very special acts that have been carefully chosen to show off the incredible flexibility, precision, and pure beauty of ballet. It sounds completely magical!

Of course, I had to pop in for a little shopping beforehand. It wouldn't be a proper Pink Tutu Milan adventure without indulging in the city's rich fashion scene. I have to say, I am completely in my element here. Every boutique is like a dazzling display of pure luxury. I picked up a new sequined ballet shoe to match my tutu (who doesn’t love a little extra sparkle, eh?), a delightful pair of ballet-inspired pumps that will be perfect for strutting around the city in, and the softest blush-coloured silk scarf. You just know I couldn’t resist!

As the day ends, I'm starting to feel my excitement bubble over. Tonight, I’ll be watching a stellar line up of international dancers in an exquisite venue that oozes charm. You're likely wondering, "Where will you wear your Pink Tutu this time?" (and I must admit I thought about it). In this city where elegance reigns supreme, I think my favourite ballet dress will get a well-deserved break. My attire for this exquisite evening? A beautiful flowing silk dress – a symphony of black with hints of shimmering silver and pink (after all, every girl needs a touch of her favourite colour!).

As the sun starts to set, painting the Milan sky in beautiful hues of orange and pink, I’ll be at the Teatro alla Scala – getting ready for an extraordinary evening, where elegance and artistry dance together! Stay tuned, darlings, because my blog tomorrow will be all about my evening at the show!

Oh, and don’t forget to visit www.pink-tutu.com on Monday for the latest installment in my Milan adventures. And if you see me on the streets, do say hello! You might even be lucky enough to see me strutting my stuff in a gorgeous tutu. After all, remember, it’s my mission to make the world a pink tutu-wearing, fashion-forward wonderland, one blog post at a time!

Until next time, darlings!
