Pink Tutu Milan: #1389 - Ciao Bella!

Wednesday, 2022-01-19

Buongiorno, my dearest Tutu-Lovers! This week I’m coming to you live from the fashion capital of the world – Milan, darling! I just had to pop over to the city of glamour for a whirlwind tour of shops, shows, and street performances, all while rocking my signature pink tutu, of course. What's a girl to do, really?

My love affair with Italy is well documented here on the blog, but this time, there was something extra special in the air. A new energy, a buzz, an air of creative inspiration, I just felt… connected! Maybe it was the stunning architecture, the delicious aroma of freshly baked focaccia that wafted through the cobbled streets, or maybe it was the stunning ballet I saw last night – but whatever it was, I knew it was something extraordinary.

As always, I started my Italian adventure in the most delightful way possible: by boarding a charming red tram in Derbyshire and venturing towards London’s Euston station. It never ceases to amaze me how effortlessly these carriages transport me to another world.

I'd just finished a private performance for a charity event back in my home town – let’s just say those little darlings at the Derbyshire Children's Charity just loved seeing a pink tutu fluttering across the stage! You know me, I'm all about spreading that pink-tutu joy! My little tutu ballet performances never fail to enchant young and old – it's the most fulfilling feeling, truly. It just fuels my passion for making ballet accessible to everyone. I may not be a prima ballerina yet, but I believe anyone can wear a pink tutu and feel like they are!

But back to my trip. As the train gently chugged towards the Channel Tunnel, I took in the views and began brainstorming outfits for my Milan adventures. A bright pink midi dress for a leisurely walk in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II? A soft blush cashmere sweater with my beloved tulle skirt for a sophisticated evening in the theatre? The possibilities were endless! The fashion in Milan is just divine, it makes me want to twirl in my pink tutu all day!

Now, I must tell you all about my favourite moment in Milan – it involved ballet, of course! Last night, I was lucky enough to catch the Teatro alla Scala performance of Swan Lake. This theatre is just incredible! Imagine a historic building brimming with grandeur and Italian flair. It's practically oozing with beauty, history, and an air of refined elegance – something every ballerina can appreciate, wouldn't you say?

Seeing Tchaikovsky’s masterful choreography brought to life in such an iconic setting was nothing short of breathtaking! The graceful leaps and spins of the dancers left me spellbound, the sheer technical prowess of every performance ... I could practically hear the pointe shoes whispering as the ballerinas glided across the stage. Each movement was filled with an undeniable passion for the art form – truly captivating!

But my Milan journey isn’t all about the big shows, though, darling. As I always say, the magic of the dance can be found anywhere you look, whether on the stage or on the streets. Today, I spotted a young street performer near the Duomo – he was performing some contemporary dance moves. The way he expressed himself, it was all about letting loose and just allowing his body to flow freely! And let me tell you, this chap could move! There was this one particular gesture – he simply lifted his arm and it seemed like it moved through the air, gracefully and fluidly, as if he had defied gravity itself!

He was the epitome of raw, unadulterated joy and energy! He truly had everyone watching - tourists, locals, pigeons - all mesmerized. I just loved the way his movement filled the space, drawing everyone in with its unique beauty. And it didn’t even need a fancy stage or an elaborate costume – it was the raw expression that spoke for itself! He was an absolute artist!

I might be biased towards ballet, darling, but I really do believe it can truly connect with anyone, even in unexpected places. I am quite sure this chap was inspiring some budding young dancers in the crowd. Perhaps one of those passers-by will grow up to be the next big name in ballet - one can dream!

Of course, what is a trip to Milan without some serious retail therapy? Today, I am channeling my inner Audrey Hepburn with my favourite Dior handbag – an absolute staple for any self-respecting ballet lover! A pop of chic pink, a delicate handle, and a touch of sophistication… yes, darling, it was love at first sight. Now, I have my eye on a blush pink vintage beret to complete my ensemble. Perhaps one of the exquisite hats at a little boutique I discovered in a narrow alley just off the main street – just darling!

My evening plans, however? A lovely dinner with some wonderful fellow dancers! We’re meeting at a charming trattoria called "Trattoria La Famiglia” for some delicious pasta and hearty laughs – can't wait for a good chat with my fellow dancers.

So there you have it, dear Tutu-Lovers – just another whirlwind of ballet and pink tulle! Keep your eye out for my upcoming blog posts – next week I’m going to share some major fashion finds from my Milan adventures. And, as always, remember to spread that pink tutu joy – life is too short to wear anything but pink!

Until then, arrivederci from Milan!

Much love,

Emma
