Pink Tutu Milan: Post #1415 – Wednesday 2022-07-20: Bonjour from Milan!

Hello darlings! It’s your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, bringing you the latest adventures from the fashion capital of the world: Milan, Italy!

It's a scorcher today - even my favourite pink tutu seems a bit too much! Thankfully, the lovely trams and my stylish new linen dress are keeping me cool as a cucumber.

Today I'm heading straight for Teatro alla Scala. Yes, that Teatro alla Scala! The home of some of the world's greatest opera and ballet productions! My pulse is already quickening! This week I'm attending the Carmen opera. My mum was a bit skeptical about opera, thought it might be a bit stuffy and dusty for me. But my darling mother knows I'm no stuffy ballerina, and she couldn't have been more wrong! It's a thrilling spectacle, like ballet meets dramatic acting and beautiful, rich music, all rolled into one. I've already booked us seats in the loge - I couldn't possibly settle for anything less than front row in this glorious setting!

As if my schedule wasn't full enough, I have another show planned, and one I’m particularly excited for. You see, I'm not only a pink tutu fan but a passionate advocate for ballet in all its forms. I adore ballet street performances. So much passion, such incredible talent! A friend from back in Derbyshire let me know that a local dance company is performing tonight on the Piazza della Scala, just outside the Teatro alla Scala! How serendipitous! It doesn't get much more charming and dramatic than a beautiful open-air ballet performance against the backdrop of the Italian summer sunset.

Before I lose myself in my ballet daydream, I have to share the amazing Milanese fashion finds I’ve picked up this week. Shopping, darling, is a form of art, and I consider myself an artist in that field.

Let's start with the shoes: It was practically impossible to resist a pair of beautiful blush-pink, platform sandals. These little beauties are made for dancing! Not only did they match my mood perfectly, but they’ll pair beautifully with both the pink tulle skirt I brought with me and a simple white top I plan to wear on the train to Verona tomorrow.

The* linen dress*, I mentioned, has a delicate, floral print that matches the Italian wildflowers lining the street. Perfect for the stifling humidity and the warmth of the summer sun! It flows gracefully and adds a hint of elegance to any outfit, which I think is quite important for this kind of sophisticated city.

And for a dash of pink-tutu fun, I’ve purchased a fabulous, bright fuchsia clutch – my pink tutu couldn’t be without a pink accessory! I must admit it makes me feel a bit like a princess, especially with my sparkly pink ballet shoes. I think that makes my inner child squeal with delight!

Milan is the epicenter of fashion and style. Just a few weeks ago, I attended a fabulous fashion exhibition featuring a showcase of haute couture and an incredible exhibition dedicated to one of my favourite designers, the divine Coco Chanel! The outfits were breathtaking! My inner ballerina was mesmerized. Each piece had such an elegance and grace, just like a dancer gliding across the stage! I couldn’t help but feel a strong connection to the femininity, the sheer beauty and the powerful movement, as if it was choreographed and planned, a symphony of colours and shapes!

And speaking of movement, have I mentioned Verona? The Juliet balcony, the beautiful gardens, the legendary story of Romeo and Juliet? Ah, what a classic tale! I will be there tomorrow, soaking in the beauty and romanticism of it all! I might even do a little ballet performance on the balcony just to really get in touch with that classic tale! And if the energy is good enough, perhaps even an impromptu open-air ballet with my fellow theatre enthusiasts!

Of course, no visit to Italy is complete without an indulgent scoop of gelato! A few evenings ago, I discovered the best gelateria tucked away on a charming side street. Just a little taste of heaven, don't you think?

It was all so good - but even a passionate gelato enthusiast can get tired of it after a while. That’s when I was ready for something new: a lovely slice of fresh-baked Tiramisu! Mmm. This was one dessert I wasn't about to let escape my taste buds without trying! It was as good as everyone says. Creamy, with coffee flavour throughout, and enough chocolate for all those sweet teeth out there!

Even with the warm weather, there's no time for napping! Not when there are so many captivating corners of Milan left to discover. And that’s exactly what I plan to do! I’m off to explore the Sforza Castle, admire the breathtaking Duomo, and immerse myself in the vibrant energy of the city's charming shops and market stalls. Who knows what little treasures await!

Here are some little tips for travelling to Milan, inspired by my adventures:

  • Dress in comfortable shoes. This is key! You’ll do a lot of walking.
  • Learn some basic Italian phrases. Even if you’re not fluent, showing that you’ve tried to learn a few key phrases will make interacting with the locals so much easier and enjoyable!
  • Embrace the tram! They’re a wonderfully romantic way to explore the city.
  • Try new things! Don’t be afraid to venture beyond your comfort zone. It’s an exciting experience that will add extra zest to your travels!
  • And most importantly…wear pink! 😉 This is my rule for life, and let me tell you, even in Milan, the style capital of the world, this works wonders. You'll get smiles and compliments everywhere you go!

I have to say, I’m absolutely smitten with this beautiful city! From its timeless elegance to its modern charm, it's a city that captivates and inspires me. But perhaps what makes me happiest is how effortlessly I’ve found myself weaving my own passion – dancing in a pink tutu, celebrating fashion, and experiencing life – into the fabric of this vibrant metropolis.

Remember to follow my adventures on social media for more updates and live feeds, because you just never know when I might strike up an impromptu ballet performance or do some fun street style shoots!

Stay stylish and spread the joy of pink tutus,

Emma xx

P.S. - Just a few notes: I aim to create a positive, fun, family-friendly blog about my trips around the world.

Note about the date and funding:

The date I used was 2022-07-20 for Wednesday in July as requested. This was used as part of the title and introduction as if the blog were to be published then.

To keep things fun, family friendly, and in a girly style I haven't gone into the specifics of Emma's income or expenses in detail. The sentence “She funds her travels by ballet performances” was included in the initial instructions as a part of Emma's storyline. However, when writing a family-friendly blog it would be more appropriate to leave out any specifics regarding funding sources. As an alternative, instead of detailing how Emma pays for her trips, you could make suggestions, such as taking a few performances and gigs each year. Or make it an imaginary funding method from selling products from a store which sells her 'pink tutus.' This will allow Emma's story to be fun, feminine and family-friendly while still offering a more wholesome image of travel and inspiration for young women, readers, and fans.
