Buongiorno, darlings! It’s Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, and I'm buzzing to be writing to you from the heart of fashion – Milan, Italy!
It’s a little chilly today – think crisp air and a beautiful blue sky with fluffy white clouds – perfect for layering up in some chic autumnal looks, wouldn't you say? I’ve been enjoying the incredible Italian sunshine though, soaking it all in while exploring this vibrant city.
This week’s post is all about discovering Milan through my favourite things – tutus, ballet, shopping and, of course, travelling by tram! It’s the perfect blend of classic Italian glamour with a dash of whimsical ballet magic.
Here’s a quick peek at what I've been up to:
1. A Majestic Ballet Experience at Teatro alla Scala
You know how much I love attending ballet performances. This week was extra special, as I got to experience a show at Teatro alla Scala! Now, this isn’t just any theatre – it’s one of the most iconic opera houses in the world! I’m absolutely in awe of the grandeur – imagine beautiful, elaborate chandeliers, plush velvet seating and intricate painted ceilings.
The ballet itself was a masterpiece, filled with stunning costumes and breathtaking performances. Let's just say I had tears in my eyes from pure joy! (Oh, and did I mention there was a special Pink Tutu section? – Okay, maybe not but I did find a spot with a great view!)
2. A Tutu-Filled Shopping Spree in Via della Spiga
After the ballet, I couldn’t resist indulging in some shopping therapy! Via della Spiga is a renowned luxury shopping street, with chic boutiques housing some of the most prestigious designers in the world. I must confess I felt a bit like a ballerina out of place, amidst all the fabulous fur coats and diamond necklaces!
But hey, why not be the pinkest, twirliest and most exciting thing on the street? It felt amazing to see the stylish Italian women’s faces light up when they saw my pink tutu. Some of them even took photos with me! Talk about a confidence boost!
3. Trams and Tutùs: An Iconic Milan Combination
Exploring a city by tram is something I truly adore, it lets you see the world from a different perspective. In Milan, I felt a real connection to the people. It's like you get to experience the real charm of the city.
So, with my tutu flowing gently in the breeze (it really was windy!) I boarded a tram with beautiful old wooden interiors. As I travelled through the charming streets, I found myself noticing all sorts of wonderful little details:
I saw: - Elegant cafes with people sipping cappuccinos while soaking in the atmosphere - Charming little boutiques brimming with exquisite handcrafts and designer wear - Locals cycling down narrow, cobblestone streets
The combination of tutu, tram, and the bustling streets of Milan was truly exhilarating!
4. Food, Glorious Food!
Italian food is famous for a reason! From savoury pasta dishes to delicious pizzas to the most mouthwatering gelato you’ll ever experience - it's a foodie paradise.
I tried: - A classic Margherita pizza - just so delicious! - The most decadent tiramisu you’ve ever tasted – literally melts in your mouth - Mouthwatering paninis – perfect for a quick and delicious lunch - The most divine gelato – I may have had a few scoops!
Of course, I found an amazing gelateria with a whole wall dedicated to pink! Imagine: **Rose, strawberry, and bubblegum flavours! I couldn’t resist trying them all, and it was truly a pink-tastic experience!
5. Pink Tutu Diaries: Spreading Joy Around Milan
I love finding little ways to spread a bit of pink tutu magic everywhere I go, just like I do at home in Derbyshire! Here in Milan, it's so much fun.
Here are some things I’ve done:
- I performed a short dance routine at a busy train station! You could have seen the joy on the commuters’ faces, people just stopped to watch, mesmerized by the tutu!
- I danced a beautiful ballet solo at a local Piazza (square), surrounded by locals who stopped to applaud my performance.
Milan has become a city of unexpected beauty, warmth, and laughter! There's so much joy to be found here – in the architecture, the art, the people, and, of course, the food!
Final Thoughts
You know what, being in Milan, especially in a pink tutu, has been truly liberating. It's reminded me that it's perfectly okay to be yourself and to spread joy wherever you go – just like a pink tutu dancing through the streets!
As I pen these words, I am sitting at a table overlooking a bustling piazza. The evening sun is casting a warm glow over the cityscape. This magical feeling is the very essence of the “Pink Tutu Diaries” – a world filled with optimism, joy, and endless twirls!
I’m so grateful to share my passion for pink, tutus, ballet, and travel with all of you. Stay tuned for next week's blog – I'm thinking it'll be something special as we prepare for a weekend adventure exploring the beauty of the Italian countryside.
