Yes, that's right, I'm in the heart of Italy, embracing the Italian sun, soaking up the stunning architecture, and, of course, twirling my way through the city's exquisite fashion scene.
This week's Pink Tutu Milan blog post is all about embracing the energy of Milan. From the bustling city streets to the hushed reverence of the Teatro alla Scala, Milan's beauty lies in its contradictions - the classic and the modern, the high fashion and the down-to-earth. It's a city that pulsates with life, where every day is a fashion show and every corner is a photo op. And you just know I'm absolutely loving every minute of it!
Milan Memories: A Whirlwind of Fashion & Dance
This week, my travels have been all about exploring Milan's vibrant cultural scene. From a mesmerising performance by the La Scala Ballet Company to a delightful morning at a vintage market, where I discovered the most beautiful vintage ballet shoes, each experience has been a unique adventure.
My adventure began at the famous Teatro alla Scala. Imagine, the most incredible theatre you've ever seen, opulent and majestic, steeped in history, with the scent of centuries of passion and artistry lingering in the air. The performance, a contemporary ballet with a stunningly expressive soundtrack, left me completely spellbound. I'd never seen anything quite like it - the energy was electric, and the artistry so moving, I practically wept during the final bows.
Later in the week, I embarked on a mission: to find the perfect ballet costume for my next performance! As you all know, a good ballet tutu is my greatest love in life. Thankfully, Milan delivered in style. The city boasts some of the most exquisite boutiques you'll ever find, overflowing with exquisite silks and satins, feathers and beads, waiting to be transformed into dazzling stage creations. Let's just say my latest pink tutu is going to make everyone's heads turn, it's a little something extra special for a particular London performance!
From Haute Couture to Vintage Finds
Of course, no visit to Milan would be complete without indulging in its renowned fashion scene. I had to take a stroll down Via Monte Napoleone, one of Milan's most fashionable streets, where global brands and exclusive boutiques parade their finest designs. Even the window displays were works of art! I must confess I did indulge in a little retail therapy – I can’t resist a gorgeous pair of vintage ballet slippers or a delicate pink fascinator. After all, a pink tutu requires matching accessories, right?
My journey into the world of Milanese fashion also led me to the hidden treasure that is Porta Ticinese. It’s a little piece of history with independent designers and artists. There are vibrant markets full of street art and colourful stalls selling vintage treasures. I unearthed a delightful vintage feather boa - it’s perfect for my next big performance! And guess what else? I found an incredibly cute mini-tutu for my little niece! Now everyone in the family will have their own perfect pink tutu to twirl around in.
The Magic of a Tram Ride
For someone who loves discovering the beauty in everyday things, Milan's public transportation system is truly a delight. Tram rides offer the best glimpse into the heartbeat of the city. You're in the midst of the daily bustle, with the wind blowing through your hair and the rhythmic clickety-clack of the trams as a soundtrack to your adventure. This city offers so much, just by travelling across it!
And talking of journeys, next week I’m off to another incredible Italian city - Florence, the cradle of art and beauty. But for now, I’m soaking up the final moments of my time in Milan, savouring the energy and the style, and already plotting out which stores to revisit before I head back to Derbyshire.
