Pink Tutu Milan - Post 1480: La Dolce Vita in a Pink Tutu!
Buongiorno, darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, bringing you a new Milan adventure from the heart of Italy. This week's escapades are all about embracing La Dolce Vita - the sweet life - and experiencing all that Milan has to offer in my trusty pink tutu.
Now, as a Derbyshire girl born and bred, you'd think the thought of Milan's sleek streets, designer boutiques, and artistic charm would send me into a spin faster than a pirouette. But honestly, the feeling's been more like a gentle plié - exciting, but controlled and oh so graceful.
This past Wednesday, 18th October, saw me twirling around Milan, soaking up the vibrant atmosphere and enjoying every delightful moment. As you know, I thrive on experiencing the city's pulse and that means embracing the local culture – and this time, it was all about the Tram!
Yes, darlings, we took to the trams. I always adore these public transport gems. A wonderful mix of old and new, with a character as rich as the coffee they serve at the nearby cafes. We navigated the intricate tram lines, watching Milan unfold from our glass window. The people watching was fascinating; I saw fashion students dashing to classes, stylish grannies gossiping with their friends, and groups of lads excitedly chatting.
One thing that struck me immediately was the colourful palette of Milanese fashion. My eyes feasted on bold prints, sharp tailoring, and playful textures. I couldn’t help but smile - my heart beat faster with every glimpse of a daring new print, each a vibrant tapestry of colour and style. I must admit, it even inspired a quick outfit change. A little dash to the local vintage shop revealed a beautiful pastel pink cashmere scarf. What could be more perfect to complete a chic Parisian look in Milan?!
But of course, what’s a trip to Milan without indulging in the exquisite cuisine? So we made our way to a charming trattoria tucked away in a quiet corner. As the aroma of fresh basil, sun-kissed tomatoes, and hearty Italian cheeses filled the air, my senses tingled with excitement. Each bite of my perfectly al dente pasta was an explosion of flavour, and every sip of my chilled Chianti brought the sunshine of Italy to my heart. I truly do believe that the best meals are shared with loved ones, creating moments to cherish.
Speaking of cherishing, after lunch, we went to see the spectacular La Scala Opera House. For all its elegant history and glamour, there was a warmth about the old stone buildings. I even spotted a vintage theatre programme from 1938! The La Scala theatre was majestic, and for a moment, I imagined myself standing under the glittering chandeliers in my pink tutu, poised to dance for the Milanese audience. I let out a whispered "I'll be back" before slipping away back into the enchanting city.
Now, don't be mistaken; Milan is not just about opera and fine dining, though those are definitely highlights. It's also about embracing life's little pleasures – and a true Parisian afternoon tea is right at the top of that list. A few blocks from our local trattoria we found a hidden gem. Tea and delicate cakes arrived on silver trays, and the warmth of the sunlight filtered through the windows. A glass of chilled sparkling wine - a truly Parisian experience right here in Milan!
Afterward, I was back to my favourite pastime – a leisurely stroll through the bustling shopping district. From vintage treasures to designer finds, I found it all in this dynamic city. I fell in love with a silk flower pin that perfectly captured Milan’s delicate yet bold approach to style. This pin will definitely adorn my upcoming performances, adding a touch of Milan to my every move.
But my favourite find of the day had to be the new bakery across from the Duomo. A shop brimming with artisanal delights and delicate macarons in all colours of the rainbow – a dream come true for my sweet tooth! Oh, and those croissants, darlings! Each bite was a cloud of buttery heaven.
Now, as I sit in my hotel room, watching the sun sink below the cityscape, I'm reminded that this city is as captivating as a graceful ballet. Its rhythm, its elegance, its charm – they've all woven a magical spell upon my heart. I feel the spirit of La Dolce Vita lingering around me, whispering tales of romance, laughter, and endless possibilities. And all while I wear my bright, beautiful pink tutu - the perfect statement piece in this charming city!
That’s it for this week’s Pink Tutu Milan adventure, darlings. Next week, I’m heading for the most incredible dance school in Milan! They call it the School of Italian Dance and it’s famed throughout the country. Oh, and of course, you can always join my adventures on my social media channels! Until next Monday, darlings, keep dancing, keep smiling, and embrace the beauty of the world around you. Remember: life is a ballet, and everyone can dance!
Ciao, from a twirling ballerina in Milan,
Emma xoxo
