Pink Tutu Milan - #1481 - Wednesday 2023-10-25

Ciao from Milano, my lovelies! It’s your favourite pink-tutu-wearing, ballet-loving, fashion-obsessed blogger, Emma, here, writing to you from the heart of Italy. As you all know, this is my weekly blog post, lovingly crafted from my Milanese adventures, and shared with you every Monday on www.pink-tutu.com.

This week, I’ve been diving deep into the heart of Milan's ballet scene, and let me tell you, it’s a world of elegance and artistry. This incredible city has captured my heart with its vibrant streets, buzzing with fashionistas and chic Milanese women. And you know what I love? I'm completely enthralled by how seamlessly ballet blends with this bustling urban atmosphere. The grace and fluidity of ballet find their home within the cobbled streets and grand avenues.

Fashion-Forward Flamenco & Finding my Pink Tutu Paradise

Today's adventure was a symphony of pink tutus and flamenco fire, all within the stunning setting of the Teatro dal Verme. I was treated to a captivating Flamenco show, where passionate dance was entwined with the rich heritage of Spain. I felt the energy pulsate in the air, and as I watched the dancers move, my toes tapped along in delight! And while I wasn't actually wearing a pink tutu, I was seriously dreaming about pairing one with the flamenco dress I found at a vintage shop tucked away in the heart of Milan! It was a breathtaking scarlet number, the perfect partner to my beloved pink tutu, waiting for its moment in the spotlight.

I do think that's an interesting and fascinating trend. Why can't the bright colours, vibrancy, and raw emotions of Flamenco come to ballet? And why can't a little more, well, 'drama', make its way into classical ballet. Think about the possibilities... pink tutu Flamenco - oh my! I might have to give that a whirl, if you know what I mean... I already have so many different shades of pink tulle that this project would be very easy to do!

Finding Inspiration in a Classic:

Before delving into the vibrant world of Flamenco, I visited Teatro alla Scala - an iconic venue and a true treasure of Milan. While it's not always my favourite style, the grandeur of a classical ballet performance cannot be denied! Today's show, a beautiful rendition of "Giselle," transported me back to the Romantic era, with its dreamy and delicate movements. You see, in this era, there was so much movement - they used to leap and bound and fly! The ballerinas, adorned in ethereal tutus (just like mine, but not pink - but I did find a brilliant, deep plum, nearly black colour - perfect!) effortlessly glide through the stage, narrating a story through their precise and poignant movements.

Let me tell you, though, if you’re thinking of catching a show at Teatro alla Scala, do book your tickets in advance! This iconic venue is a hot ticket, and for good reason! The theatre itself is a work of art, beautifully restored and ornamented, every detail hinting at a rich history. From the luxurious red velvet seating to the intricate ceiling paintings, everything speaks to the refined elegance of Milan. And the acoustics are stunning – I can’t imagine what it’s like for the dancers who hear that pure sound with every move!

Trams and Tutudentials

Naturally, my pink tutu didn't stay confined to my hotel room - how could it, in this beautiful city! I made a splash as I weaved my way through the city, hopping on trams with the locals. This city is made for exploring, whether it's taking a leisurely walk through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II or exploring the charming alleyways of Navigli, a network of canals and charming boutiques.

Did you know that the Duomo, the magnificent cathedral at the heart of Milan, is surrounded by beautiful arcades? There's a grand array of shops, and guess who found a treasure trove of stylish dresses perfect for pairing with a pink tutu? Yep, me!

Fueling Up with Delicious Dishes:

To keep up with the intensity of my ballet and shopping schedule, I've been indulging in some delicious Milanese cuisine. Imagine my delight when I discovered a small bakery tucked away on a quiet street, offering the most exquisite pastries and a truly delightful coffee! Let's just say that the sweetness of the pastries perfectly complemented the graceful ballet moves that filled my heart. And after an energetic dance lesson, a steaming bowl of pasta made with love just hits the spot. I am still dreaming about my pasta alla carbonara - what an Italian dream!

Ballet by Day & Night

I was blessed to discover two amazing dance studios. The first was located in a chic neighbourhood with large windows facing the street, allowing the world to witness the dedication and beauty of ballet training. There was an air of focus and joy, the kind you see when a group of people share a love for something as extraordinary as dance.

Later in the evening, I ventured to another studio - one tucked away in a backstreet, the energy buzzing and exciting. The teacher's passion shone as they shared their knowledge, and the energy in the room was electrifying!

These studios remind me that ballet isn't about perfection, it's about the joy of movement, about learning, growing and having fun! I can see the sheer delight in the dancers' faces - ballet is not just for the "serious" professionals, but a passion shared by countless others! And who knows, one of them could be a future pink-tutu queen - I'm putting that out into the universe.

Fashion and Fanciulness

Speaking of the universe, and of course of pink, I found the most adorable accessory boutique while browsing through one of Milan's vintage markets! There, nestled among all sorts of delights, was a delicate silk scarf in the palest, softest pink. It’s not just for a tutu, it’s something that every girly-girl will adore! The softness and flow of this delicate fabric… oh my goodness - perfect for my upcoming birthday bash back in Derbyshire! My next fashion post is definitely about finding the perfect accessories!

Coming Home (With A Bang!)

So, as you can see, I've been soaking in the atmosphere of Milan. My suitcase is filling up fast with some fantastic new finds, not just fashion treasures, but experiences to cherish! My heart's overflowing with the stories of the graceful dancers, the beautiful architecture, and the charming people I've met here. My soul's truly dancing in this vibrant Italian city, and that’s definitely saying something!

Next week, I will be back in Derbyshire. It’s time to catch up with friends and family, to put my newest treasures on show, and of course to plan some pink-tutu-worthy outings. However, Milan will forever hold a special place in my heart, waiting for me to return!

But that’s all for this week! I hope you’ve enjoyed this glimpse into my life in Milan. Keep shining bright and always remember to wear pink! Don’t forget to follow my blog on www.pink-tutu.com for even more updates and fashion fun!

Ciao for now, my dears!

Yours in Pink Tutus,

Emma xx
