Ciao bella! This is Emma from Derbyshire, England, your resident pink tutu-wearing ballet enthusiast, bringing you all the latest from the fashion capital of the world: Milan!
The weather's crisp, the air's alive with the hum of Vespa engines, and the city's brimming with vibrant energy - just like a ballerina in full spin!
Today was an absolute whirlwind! As usual, my day began with a morning ballet class at Teatro alla Scala. Nothing beats the thrill of gliding across a beautifully polished wooden floor in a pink tutu under the watchful eyes of the most seasoned ballet instructors!
The class itself was full of graceful ladies of all ages, their bodies moving with the elegant rhythm of the music. This morning's focus was on elegant arabesques, so I spent most of the session honing my lines, perfecting the angles and letting the fluidity of my movements guide me.
Tutu-tiful Fashion Finds:
And speaking of graceful lines, afterwards I just had to hit the shops! What’s a trip to Milan without a touch of luxury and a splash of vibrant fashion? My favourite designer boutique is always my first stop. It’s located right off the chic Corso Buenos Aires, known for its vintage feel, where I managed to snag the most gorgeous vintage Dior dress – a deep pink, of course!
Tram-ing Through Milan:
A must-do on every Milanese outing is a journey on the trams! Today’s route took me from Corso Buenos Aires to the enchanting Piazza Duomo. The view was absolutely captivating – the grand Gothic cathedral rising into the sky, sunlight dancing across the polished stones, and the energetic hum of Milanese life all around me. It’s all so colourful, stylish and lively. The tram's swaying motion felt like a little ballet pirouette, perfect for getting into the mood for my next stop!
From Ballet Shoes to Ballet Shoes (on a Grand Scale):
This evening, my toes tapped with excitement as I prepared to witness the extraordinary at Teatro alla Scala – “La Traviata”, one of my absolute favourite operas. The energy in the grand theatre was palpable! The auditorium was abuzz with whispers, rustling gowns and the anticipation for the show to begin. It was like stepping into a fairytale!
Every note, every gesture, every breathtaking aria resonated with passion, transporting me into the depths of the story. And let me tell you, there was something incredibly empowering and exhilarating about being surrounded by fellow opera and ballet lovers, our eyes sparkling with shared emotion, as the powerful voices wove a tapestry of human emotion.
The drama unfolded before my eyes, the orchestra's music weaving a magic spell around the whole room, a reminder that even the most passionate, emotive, and compelling narratives can unfold within a single ballet or opera!
Fueling My Tutu Passion with Foodie Delights:
As always, the day wouldn't be complete without savouring the rich and flavourful cuisine Milan has to offer. Tonight's treat was a delicious seafood dinner at a small restaurant tucked away near the theatre. Every bite was an explosion of flavour – from fresh and tender calamari to the fragrant pesto accompanying my perfectly grilled branzino. A glass of sparkling prosecco, a delicious slice of creamy panna cotta for dessert, and the evening was a symphony of culinary delight!
Tutu-fying The World: My Milan Mission!
While my heart's set on spreading the magic of ballet across the globe, here in Milan I'm discovering so many fascinating things! Whether I’m soaking up the beautiful art at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, gazing upon the breathtaking cityscapes from the top of the Duomo, or losing myself in the vibrant and stylish energy of Corso Como, Milan truly feels like a home away from home.
My dream is to inspire every soul to don a pink tutu and embrace the graceful joy of movement, even for just a single moment! And just as a single ballerina takes centre stage, I'm hoping to become a leading voice for ballet appreciation and sharing this amazing world of performance, creativity and artistry with everyone I meet.
