Pink Tutu Milan: A Week in the City of Style, Culture and (Of Course!) Pink!
#PinkTutuMilan Post 1496 – 2024-02-07
Hello my dearest Tutu Twirlers! 🩰 It’s Emma here, your pink-tutu-loving ballerina blogger, reporting live from the heart of fashion, Milan! My heart is filled with a thousand swirling pink twirls, all thanks to an incredible week exploring this glamorous Italian city.
I confess, this journey began, as usual, with a little nudge from the magic of ballet. You see, this week’s trip was inspired by an email announcing a special one-off ballet performance of Swan Lake. You know me, Swan Lake… tutus… pink… Milan! What more could a girl ask for?
The journey started back in Derbyshire, where I packed my trusty suitcase, filled to the brim with everything a fashionable ballerina could need. I mean, it’s Milan darling! No sparkly pink tutu would be left behind! After all, I truly believe that life is better with a little sparkle, and what's more sparkling than a pink tutu in the sunshine?
After a speedy journey (a little less speedy thanks to the delicious train buffet), I arrived in Milan ready to explore! There’s nothing quite like the feeling of rolling your luggage through a city buzzing with life. My pink suitcase was definitely a head-turner, with all those interested eyes!
Of course, the very first thing on the itinerary was to find my perfect pink outfit for the Swan Lake performance. I knew it had to be dramatic, just like the ballet itself. Milan, of course, delivered. We headed to a charming vintage shop tucked away in a backstreet, where I unearthed the most magnificent vintage pink tutu imaginable! It was adorned with swirling fabric flowers, tiny beads, and a soft blush pink satin lining. You know what, it had a little black velvet bow too! So chic, eh?
After much searching, I found the perfect black velvet bodice, and as fate would have it, a matching pair of little sparkly black heels! This was Milan after all - the epitome of Italian flair, it had to be black velvet! (Though I confess, my love of pink may have tempted me to find a pair in a pink satin hue. The struggle is real, I tell you!)
With my perfect outfit sorted, I was ready to explore Milan's unique charm. This city, filled with captivating architecture, historical gems, and bustling piazzas, was like stepping straight out of a ballet production. It was theatrical, romantic, and undeniably gorgeous!
We were in Milan to experience everything that it had to offer. So after our fashion foray, we set off on an exploration adventure, walking the historic cobblestone streets and dipping into charming cafes tucked away in little alleyways. I couldn’t help but think this city would be an amazing setting for a contemporary ballet production – all those alleyways would make the perfect backdrop!
One afternoon we ventured to the beautiful Duomo, a sprawling cathedral with breathtaking Gothic architecture and elaborate stained glass windows. Its impressive façade with all those sculptures, I tell you! The intricate design made my head spin and my imagination whirl, all I could see were beautiful ballet poses – a ballerina pirouette on top of the building, leaping from each intricate pinnacle… I was practically composing my own choreography in my mind!
You know how much I adore public transport - it's a real experience. Well, let me tell you, travelling by tram and train through Milan was a pure delight. It felt like riding through a kaleidoscope of beautiful architecture and colours, each station a little artistic jewel.
After our whirlwind exploration of Milan, the day of the Swan Lake performance arrived! It was time to slip on that incredible pink tutu. You know the feeling - the transformation of putting on your dancing shoes, the flutter in your tummy.
The ballet was spectacular. Each graceful movement and passionate emotion left me mesmerised. I watched in awe as the dancers soared through the air, their tutus like delicate snowflakes caught in the wind.
That night, tucked in bed in a charming little boutique hotel, I thought about what a perfect weekend it had been - an amazing ballet, delicious food, incredible shopping, and all those beautiful places in Milan. And the pink tutu! It all felt so inspiring, almost enough to encourage everyone I know to wear one (it’s my ultimate mission after all!)
I know I’ll be back. Milan, a city with heart, and passion for beauty and style is a place that I’ll carry in my heart… and my pink tutu wardrobe!
Until next time, Tutu Twirlers!
Love,
Emma 🩰
Now let's have some fun and delve into what made this week in Milan so fabulous!
Here's a quick glimpse of our itinerary:
Swan Lake Spectacular: It wouldn't be a trip to Milan without ballet, and this particular performance of Swan Lake was a truly special treat. From the dazzling costumes (those tutus!) to the emotionally charged dance, I was completely spellbound. Swan Lake is one of the world's most iconic ballets and to experience it in Milan, known for its own breathtaking artistic expressions, was like a dream come true.
Exploring Milan's Artistic Soul: We immersed ourselves in the rich art and history that permeates every street corner of Milan. The Duomo was breathtaking in its grandeur, with its intricately designed architecture and majestic interiors. Every nook and cranny was a new and inspiring detail.
Food & Fashion Fix: Milan is renowned for its incredible food. I couldn’t resist all the delicious pastries and gelato (it's practically a national treasure). Every bite was pure bliss, as was our trip to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a truly unique shopping arcade filled with luxury boutiques and designers! It was a delight for the senses, a spectacle for the eyes, and a joy to indulge in those gorgeous shoes. You know how much I love ballet shoes and sparkly accessories, and oh, what treasures I discovered there!
What did we wear:
My outfit for Swan Lake, as I’ve said, was the epitome of theatrical glam: a vintage pink tutu with its beautiful vintage blush satin lining, the black velvet bodice with its delicate beaded detailing, and of course, a perfect pair of sparkly black heels to complete the look! Let’s just say I was the epitome of pink tutu elegance!
We all have to do what we believe in, and my passion for spreading the magic of pink tutus has taken me on so many exciting journeys - from London, to Paris, and now Milan. Every experience has inspired a new creative spark, fuelled my love for all things sparkly and graceful.
*It's my aim to get the world wearing pink tutus! * I know some people might say it’s unusual - and it probably is - but to me it’s an expression of femininity, sparkle, joy, and creativity. You never know when an unexpected item of clothing could make someone smile!
