Ciao bella!
It’s Emma here, your resident pink tutu aficionado, reporting live from the fashion capital of the world - Milan, Italy! I’ve been soaking up the sunshine and the sights (and, of course, the fabulous shops!), and I have to say, I'm feeling positively inspired. I know what you’re thinking… “Isn’t this post a bit late, Emma? We’re on the 13th already, and this is your Monday post! Surely the week’s half over by now?” Well, let me tell you… you wouldn’t believe the adventures I’ve been having in Milan, my dear readers!
This week has been about savouring every last drop of the Italian charm, so I took my time, indulged in delicious gelato (with an extra sprinkle of pink sugar, of course!), and discovered some truly delightful hidden gems in this magnificent city. You see, travelling isn't just about seeing the famous landmarks; it's about experiencing the magic of a place - from the sounds of a bustling marketplace to the laughter of a group of friends enjoying an evening out. It’s about the little things, and Milan definitely has those little things in abundance.
A Day in Milan, in Pink 🎀
I’ll tell you what - Milan loves a good parade! And I, for one, couldn’t be happier. This morning, I started my day with a delightful tour of the city, guided by a fellow pink enthusiast! Yes, I found the most amazing shop, nestled amongst the traditional boutiques, overflowing with everything pink. Tutu skirts, sequined ballet shoes, tulle headbands – you name it! I must have spent at least an hour there, chatting with the shop owner (who reminded me very much of my dear Nana) and trying on the most gorgeous outfits. The day just kept getting more magical as I meandered through the cobbled streets, passing under a smattering of pink umbrellas, each one as beautiful as the last.
The Italian passion for pink was truly evident everywhere I looked! Even the trams here are painted with pink accents! Oh, darling, you know how I love my tram rides - that view, those windows… and with my perfectly coordinated pink tutu outfit (which, naturally, included a pair of pink Converse sneakers!), I must have been a delightful spectacle for fellow travellers. And of course, no trip to Milan is complete without a little fashion therapy! 🛍️ I treated myself to the most delicate lace top from Piazza San Babila and a chic beret from the quaint little boutiques in the Navigli district.
Speaking of Navigli, this is truly where Milan reveals its magic! Just walking through the channels, lined with charming bars and restaurants, made me feel like I'd stepped into a vintage film. I was lucky enough to be in Milan during their annual festival of lights and it was simply spectacular! Every bridge, every building, even the trees were bathed in a dazzling array of lights! They used every shade of pink imaginable, darling. It truly felt like stepping into a fairy tale!
Milan and the Ballet
Let's face it, darlings, you can't really talk about Milan without talking about ballet! I mean, it’s literally in their veins, right? This week, I was delighted to see "The Sleeping Beauty" at the Teatro alla Scala. 🎭 It was the most beautiful production I’ve ever seen! It felt like stepping right into a storybook, the sets were just magical and the dancing - oh darling! - simply flawless.
I made sure to attend the gala afterwards (naturally! One must keep up appearances!) where the entire city's creme de la creme descended on the Teatro alla Scala, dressed to the nines. The sheer artistry on display was awe-inspiring, from the costumes, to the scenery, to the performances. There's no other way to describe it - a truly unforgettable night!
Of course, I wasn't going to just passively watch ballet. You know I had to get my own little dance fix! So, I booked a session at the Scuola di Ballo, Milan’s renowned ballet academy, right next to the Duomo! 💃 The teachers there are truly wonderful, encouraging me to move with grace and fluidity even though I'm certainly no professional ballerina!
I spent a good few hours working on my pirouettes (always a bit wobbly for me), and practicing some elegant plies. After all, every ballet aficionado needs to keep those legs and feet in top shape! It's a joyful experience, you know, just being in that environment - the smell of old wood and leather from the barre, the whispered corrections from the teacher, the way the room just glows under the natural light… oh, it truly feels like you're stepping back in time!
And darling, you know that I always end the day with a good, solid stretch! It’s the perfect way to relax my body, mind, and spirit. So, I laid out my mat in my hotel room and gave my legs and muscles the love and attention they deserve, followed by a nice, warm bath and a calming chamomile tea. The best way to end a busy day, wouldn’t you say?
