Buongiorno, darling ballerinas! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad adventurer here, Emma, reporting live from the dazzling, romantic city of Milan! This week, we're on the Pink Tutu Milan itinerary, all set for a whirlwind of ballet, fashion, and, of course, pink!
This Wednesday marks a special day for me - it's the Teatro alla Scala opening night! Oh, how I adore that grand, historic theatre. Imagine: plush velvet seats, shimmering chandeliers, and a stage that breathes magic. Tonight, we’ll be transported to a world of wonder with Tchaikovsky’s "Swan Lake", and I can’t wait! The entire city seems to buzz with excitement – a vibrant pulse of passion for the arts, fashion, and… did I mention pink?
Speaking of fashion, oh darling, Milan has got to be one of the most stylish cities in the world! I can barely walk ten paces without spotting a beautifully crafted window display or a stylish Italian with an outfit to die for. I can't wait to delve into the heart of this fashion scene, hunting for that perfect pink accessory for tonight’s ballet – maybe a delicate pink feather boa to complete my pink tutu ensemble?
Now, let's rewind to how I got here, shall we? It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Milan post without some travel talk! As you know, I live for a good train journey, especially those scenic ones through the countryside. So this time, I caught the high-speed train from London to Paris, where I explored some of the charming shops and strolled along the Seine River. Oh, how I love Paris!
Then, on to the glamourous capital of Italy! There's something magical about arriving in Milan. It's the smell of fresh espresso, the charm of the old streets, and the palpable energy of a city buzzing with life! And to top it all off, I arrived in style - on the tram, of course! You just can’t beat the feeling of sitting there, with your pink tutu, watching the world go by… and feeling utterly fabulous.
For those of you who haven't been, Milan is a city bursting with art and culture, from majestic Renaissance buildings like the Duomo, with its soaring spires, to the iconic Sforza Castle, a history buff's paradise. I could spend hours wandering these magnificent spots, just soaking in the ambiance. It’s the perfect way to find inspiration for new tutu routines, don’t you think?
Let me tell you, the Pink Tutu Milan itinerary is already bursting with excitement, and it’s only day one! The next few days will be a kaleidoscope of colour: from exploring Milan’s quirky independent boutiques, searching for that special pink treasure, to immersing myself in the vibrant, vibrant fashion scene. I hear the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is bursting with boutiques, each one more captivating than the next.
But wait, there’s more! To make the Pink Tutu Milan experience truly extraordinary, I’m going to add a sprinkle of Italian magic – an Opera al Fresco performance under the stars. Oh, the romanticism of it all! Just imagine, listening to arias as the stars shimmer above!
Then, to really delve into the cultural heart of this magical city, I'm planning on attending a masterclass with some of Milan's leading ballerinas. What a perfect way to expand my skillset, learn new routines, and mingle with the best of the best!
And, naturally, every trip deserves a taste of authentic Milanese cuisine, am I right? We're talking traditional pasta dishes like tagliatelle al ragù or saffron risotto – pure deliciousness! And let’s not forget the delectable pastries, like cannoli, filled with creamy ricotta.
My Pink Tutu Milan diary is a whirlwind of ballet, fashion, and delectable experiences – all sparkling in a sea of pink! The days here have been bursting with fun, fashion, and fabulous ballet – oh, and those incredible train rides. Remember, ladies, with every twirl, with every step, every elegant plié, and every journey, the pink tutu spirit soars!
I know you’ll love it! I will be posting the pictures and videos on my Pink Tutu Milan instagram account.
So, darling ballerinas, let's continue our Italian adventure together! Stay tuned, for the Pink Tutu Milan journey is only just beginning...
A Day at the Teatro alla Scala with Emma:
The evening was a pure sensory symphony! Stepping into the Teatro alla Scala is like stepping back in time, yet simultaneously feeling like you are walking into a futuristic fairytale! It is absolutely stunning. Everything glistened - the ornate carvings, the chandelier so immense, it almost felt like it could crash onto the stage. The sheer scale of this theatre leaves you speechless. And then, the stage… it just beckoned, begging to be danced upon.
For tonight's Swan Lake, I wore my trusty pink tutu. I always say that there's something incredibly powerful and magical about wearing pink! And honestly, a little bit of magic is always what you need in your life, especially in the world of ballet!
But before the music filled the theatre, I was in a world of exquisite pre-performance rituals! You know what I mean: a light application of shimmering powder on my face, checking my pointe shoes one last time, and adjusting my pink tutu with meticulous care. Then, there was a final brush through my hair before I set off for the stalls.
Finally, the lights dimmed, the curtain rose, and a wave of enchantment took over! The opening notes of Tchaikovsky's music were absolutely beautiful, filling the entire auditorium. It took my breath away.
The ballet dancers performed with such graceful ease. The ballerinas were like fragile birds, their movements so soft and delicate, the male dancers were strong and imposing – they moved like gods.
But oh, my darling… it was during the Black Swan scene, when the beautiful, majestic ballerinas transformed, turning their emotions black, that the real magic began. The whole auditorium seemed to hold its breath, and for a moment, the world was consumed by this dance.
The ballet brought tears to my eyes, it truly transported me to a different realm of emotions. And that’s what I love most about the theatre. It’s a magical, moving, truly captivating experience that fills me with joy!
Of course, no night at the theatre is complete without a scrumptious post-performance treat! We found a gelateria a short walk from the theatre - they had a magnificent selection of flavours. There was "pink champagne", "vanilla bean with strawberry", "chocolate fudge", and many others! You bet, I opted for the "strawberry rhubarb" and enjoyed a big scoop.
Feeling energised by the amazing night at the Teatro alla Scala, we left for a well-earned rest at our hotel – an exquisite 19th-century townhouse - just across the square from the theatre. The rooms were simply beautiful. I love the rich fabrics and beautiful colours - perfectly in line with the style and glamour of Pink Tutu Milan, wouldn't you agree?
But wait, there's more! Before calling it a night, we found the most exquisite little cafe called Dolci Divini where the chocolate truffles are heavenly. They say that there's something truly wonderful about sharing your stories, experiences, and observations with loved ones over coffee. And trust me, dear ballerinas, this cafe had the best cappuccinos.
Milan in Pink: Emma’s Boutique Boutique SpreeIt wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Milan post without a healthy dose of fashion, would it? So today, I embarked on a mission to find that perfect touch of pink to adorn my beloved pink tutu for my ballet class tomorrow.
Oh, darling, you wouldn't believe the shopping scene here in Milan! Every street feels like a runway, every window a scene of dazzling style! It's a paradise for a pink tutu devotee like myself, I can tell you that much.
Now, when I think about a fabulous Milanese boutique, I dream of opulent shop windows, plush interiors, and shelves bursting with luxurious fabrics. Oh, the delight! So, that's where we went – on a Pink Tutu hunt!
I'm not going to lie; I did end up getting a bit too into the shopping, darling, it's easy to do! But the sheer delight of finding just the perfect pink feather boa – I couldn’t help but snatch it up immediately!
My search for the ultimate pink accessory wasn’t just a hunt for the it item; it was about understanding the art and soul of Italian design, you see. The designs here are elegant and sophisticated yet playful and charming. A beautiful pink feather boa isn’t just an accessory; it's a statement! And a pink statement is just what we’re all about, right?
My shopping adventure also took me to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a breath-taking arcade and a shopping centre that houses high-end fashion stores from around the globe. You won't be surprised to know that I made a bee-line straight to Pinko, the Italian fashion house known for their use of soft pastels, delicate textures, and… you guessed it! an emphasis on pink!
The Galleria, you see, is more than just a place for shopping. It's an architecturally brilliant masterpiece; I felt transported back to the 19th century - and the beautiful arches and stained-glass dome… oh, they are exquisite!
From here, my pink tutu-hunt led me to some charming little boutiques in the Brera* district, which is known for its artistic history and boutiques filled with creative designs and artisan crafts. Here, I found myself admiring exquisitely made jewellery, handcrafted bags, and beautiful handmade fabrics. They truly captured the charm of the neighbourhood!
I did find myself completely drawn to a delightful fabric shop called Tessuti & Arti where I felt like a real, true pink tutu queen. I could have stayed there all day!
After this incredible shopping trip, it's only natural that the rest of the day should have been a Pink Tutu ballet masterclass at the Balletto di Milano. These masterclasses are incredible opportunities for aspiring ballerinas from around the world to connect, collaborate, and learn. The Balletto di Milano offers amazing courses, with professional, patient teachers, who really guide and nurture your talents.
It was an incredible opportunity to delve deeper into the artistry of ballet, meet other passionate dancers, and develop new moves. Plus, let's be honest, there's nothing more delightful than spending the afternoon twirling in a gorgeous pink tutu – it simply doesn’t get any better!
But you know me, darlings. When I say I live for ballet, I don’t only mean dancing – it also means the sheer joy of going to ballet shows. As I left the masterclass, the sun was setting in all its glory and the city's lights were starting to come on… a beautiful sign of a perfect day, if you ask me!
And it was on this balmy Milanese evening that I stumbled upon something quite special.
It all happened like this… I was walking through the beautiful Navigli area – I do love strolling around the city’s canals. There is such a unique charm and peaceful energy around the water - and what caught my eye was a small open-air stage, bathed in the glow of the street lamps… And who was up there, you ask? It was the Balletto di Strada.
This wonderful troupe performs in street scenes and brings a modern feel to classic ballets. It felt almost surreal, like I’d stumbled upon some sort of secret magical world. And you know what, I couldn't help but watch their performance. The combination of light, street music, and their incredible dancing created a unique atmosphere. The group brought the classical stories alive in such a fresh, inspiring way – their interpretation of Swan Lake was breathtaking.
You see, for me, ballet is about much more than performing on stage. It's also about dancing under the stars, about sharing my love of ballet, about experiencing how the world embraces different artistic forms. The street ballet was a beautiful fusion of culture, creativity, and captivating artistry. It left me thrilled!
