Pink Tutu Milan: #1618 - Wednesday, 2026-06-10 - The City of Chic, Shopping and, of course, Ballerinas!

Buongiorno, darling darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed blogger Emma here, writing to you from the glorious city of Milan, Italy!

This week, I'm channeling the energy of Milan - the city known for its elegance, fashion and oh, let's be honest, a touch of extravagance. Now, if you ask me, there's nothing more glamorous than a pink tutu swishing through the streets of this stunning city, so let's jump straight into the fun!

This trip, I’ve arrived with a mission. It’s not just about pirouette-ing around the city’s magnificent plazas and catching up with the latest ballet performances - although let's be honest, that's certainly part of the fun. I'm here to inspire, to encourage and to convince everyone in Milan to put on a pink tutu! Why? Because it’s the ultimate symbol of femininity, joy, and well, frankly, a bit of whimsical rebellion. 😉

This week, it’s all about a touch of the ‘la dolce vita’ and some Italian fashion inspiration. Now, let's just say, it’s a good job I brought an extra suitcase with me, because oh boy, the temptation here is huge! I'm finding a perfect blend of classical elegance and playful charm here in Milan. My trusty little notebook is overflowing with ideas, I can’t wait to tell you all about them.

A Pink Tutu and the City

Arriving in Milan was magical. I love that sense of grand arrival as the train pulled into the station - and to think that all those years ago, dancers from across Europe travelled by train to arrive in Milan. I, of course, didn’t disappoint and stepped off the train in a gorgeous ballet-inspired ensemble that I can't wait to share with you all later in the blog! As I caught a tram into the centre of the city, it was so busy - people on their way to work, students heading to class and tourists just like me, taking it all in. There’s something special about travelling around by tram and getting a glimpse into everyday Milanese life, you see things you’d miss on a guided tour, it's much more authentic!

A Night at the Opera and the Enchanting Theatre of La Scala

And, talking of authentic, what better way to immerse yourself in Milanese culture than a night at the theatre! Let's be real, any excuse for a bit of glamour, right?! So, my first night in Milan was dedicated to something truly special: attending a performance at Teatro alla Scala. As soon as you see the grand facade and enter the magnificent halls of La Scala, you can feel the history seep through. The atmosphere buzzed with anticipation, everyone getting ready for the performance.

There’s something special about going to a ballet, and to go to one at La Scala? Let me tell you, that feeling of anticipation and excitement, there are no words for it. Then there was the stage itself - beautifully lit, grand, elegant, it transported you to another place. The dancers were breathtaking! I couldn’t stop myself snapping away, I felt so lucky to witness such talented performances. Even the musicians were incredibly talented! It was an absolutely magical experience.

Shopping with a Touch of Pink

Naturally, after that exquisite evening, a bit of shopping was needed! Don't get me wrong, a night out in Milan calls for something comfortable yet elegant - the perfect ballet-inspired outfit, naturally! And, of course, you have to check out the chic boutiques of Milan for some much-needed pink tutu accessories! I managed to find some fabulous pink sparkly tutus and, just because I can, a pink and white-striped bow - so elegant and playful - perfect for those afternoon teas at luxurious Parisian cafes (if you haven't already tried it, I urge you to! Don't worry, you’ll just have to trust me, the Parisians take a fabulous afternoon tea). Oh, I must also add a new set of ballet flats! These new ones are a real showstopper in vibrant, pink satin, so elegant yet oh-so comfortable! I had to, didn't I? Just looking at them makes me want to twirl.

La Dolce Vita at Its Best

I don't think it's possible to describe the energy of Milan any other way. Let's face it, this is a city that breathes style and art. I even tried my hand at a little watercolour painting - but, as you may have guessed, with a pink tutu on. Don’t worry, you will see it all in my upcoming posts. Just because I can! I am quite the artist at times, believe me!

I spent my morning in a small but lovely gallery, surrounded by pastel pink walls and soft sunlight, just taking in the delicate art and reflecting on my time in Milan.

There are no words to describe my love for the pink tutus I have collected over the years. I’ve been wearing them in ballet classes and performances for so long, and seeing them in a gallery with my own pieces for sale alongside work by other local artists? Now that was magical.

A Journey through History

Of course, no trip to Milan is complete without experiencing a bit of history! The Duomo is, in my humble opinion, an architectural masterpiece! If you’ve never been here, do visit - even for those who aren’t fond of visiting churches, the Duomo is just that beautiful! Then there are the beautiful squares with stunning marble sculptures and fountains - they take you back in time. Walking through them is a truly enriching experience. I recommend finding yourself a cosy corner of one of the squares and sipping a good Italian coffee. Take a moment to admire the surroundings, especially as the sun goes down - a magical moment to add to your Milanese memories.

And finally, a few notes on the blog..
