Pink Tutu Milan #1619: Ciao Bella! 🇮🇹🩰💖

Buongiorno, darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed blogger, and I'm finally back in Milan, the city that never sleeps…or, at least, the city that never sleeps on fashion and glamour. After a whirlwind week touring the vibrant cobbled streets of Florence, my little heart yearned for the bustling energy of Milano. And, let's be honest, it was the promise of a delectable pizza from Pizzeria Starita a Materdei (seriously, I can't resist the siren call of that heavenly dough) that finally pulled me back.

This week's blog, my loves, is bursting with pink tulle dreams, shimmering sequins, and the joy of dancing beneath the Italian sky! I've been indulging in every inch of the Milanese ballet scene, taking class at the renowned Teatro alla Scala and catching a captivating performance at the Teatro Dal Verme. But wait, there's more! We're going to dive into the enchanting world of Milan's vintage stores, unveil the secrets of delicious, local gelato, and discover why even the tram rides here are an exercise in Parisian chic. Let's get into it!

Pink Tutu at Teatro Alla Scala 🩰💖

There's no place more magnificent for a pink-tutu enthusiast like myself than the hallowed halls of Teatro Alla Scala. I mean, even the facade of the theatre looks like a storybook fairytale come to life. I could have just spent the whole afternoon gazing at the beautiful architecture, the intricate sculptures, and the sweeping grandeur, but I knew I couldn't miss out on the chance to step inside.

The first thing I did was take a class. Now, it might be surprising for some of you to hear, but Milan actually has one of the biggest and most impressive dance schools in Italy. And you know I just couldn't miss out on the chance to swirl around in the same hallowed space where some of the greatest ballerinas of our time trained! There I was, alongside some impossibly graceful young dancers, learning new steps and perfecting my pirouettes. My, my, the teachers are so strict, but it's a good kind of strict that makes you strive to reach the highest standards. (Of course, I'm also a bit relieved I didn't actually have to wear the pointe shoes - even my dancing heart couldn't quite cope with the strain on a Thursday afternoon.)

Later that evening, I went to a performance at Teatro Alla Scala. It was a dazzling, spectacular spectacle - think lavish costumes, incredible artistry, and breathtaking choreography. The music transported me to another realm, and the emotions on display were utterly heart-wrenching. I found myself totally enraptured by the stories unfolding before me, and as always, I felt a deep sense of belonging and shared purpose within that theatre space. There was something magical in the air, as if we were all united in the shared experience of dance.

I had to wear my best pink tutu for the occasion, naturally! You've got to be prepared to look the part, right? The ballet scene here is SO sophisticated, with ladies sporting elegant gowns, glamorous outfits, and beautiful, intricate jewellery. Of course, I had to add my own personal touch – my very own bright pink satin tutu and some glittering diamantes that catch the light just so. And if you're a fellow pink-tutu fan out there, be sure to grab your own pair of glittery flats to complete the look!

Dancing the Night Away at Teatro Dal Verme ✨💃

There was a captivating ballet show at the beautiful Teatro Dal Verme. It's one of Milan's hidden gems, a glorious theatre hidden in the hustle and bustle of the city. The first thing you notice when you walk into this magnificent building is the awe-inspiring chandeliers. Imagine an entire ceiling filled with glittering crystals that reflect the stage lights like a million stars - that's the level of extravagance you find here.

I actually chose this show because it had a vibrant contemporary ballet piece that used projections, lights and sounds. Now, I am all for the classics, but sometimes it's so refreshing to experience something new. I mean, you know how much I adore a classic, full-length ballet like Giselle. But every now and again, I find myself craving a different kind of artistry. It was exhilarating! The performers danced with an energy and fluidity that was electrifying. Their movements were so fluid, so graceful, that it almost looked as if they were weightless! They seamlessly blended contemporary choreography with theatrical flair and modern technology.

You have to know that each performance is a unique experience in the magical Teatro Dal Verme. Even though I've seen my fair share of ballet shows, it was still an unforgettable experience to take in a whole different type of contemporary ballet that completely redefines my idea of what a dance show can be.

I'm already making plans to catch another performance at Teatro Dal Verme later this month – it's definitely a theatre worth coming back to again and again. And, you can bet I'm going to be donning my pink tulle once again.

Milanese Fashion - Where Vintage Glamour Meets Modern Style 🛍️👗

Speaking of stylish moments, we must delve into Milan's fashion scene, my darlings. This city is the beating heart of Italian style, and I can assure you, you can't help but feel the pulsating energy the moment you arrive. Let's start with a stroll through Via della Spiga – the quintessential high-end shopping haven in Milan.

I, for one, am a sucker for a well-placed display window filled with the most exquisite fashion items. Even just looking at all the gorgeous outfits can give you serious wardrobe envy! I know you might not always be able to afford to walk out of those chic boutiques with an armful of designer bags, but there's a little slice of luxury that is waiting to be discovered for those of us with a slightly tighter budget - and this is where the magic of Milan's vintage shops really shines!

These places are brimming with beautiful, pre-loved clothes just waiting to be given a new lease on life! Think flowing maxi dresses in luxurious silks, vintage velvet jackets with dazzling beadwork, and hats with extravagant feathers – it’s a treasure hunter’s paradise. It was so tempting to go wild with a vintage shopping spree. I tried to resist, but I couldn’t leave without picking up a dazzling sequined top and a feather-trimmed headband that has completely transformed my outfit collection! Now, I can bring some serious Italian flair to my everyday attire!

If you're feeling particularly adventurous, explore the hidden vintage treasures on the side streets near the Navigli canal. My most exciting discovery was a small shop packed full of 1950s clothing. I’m talking poodle skirts, high-waisted cinched-in trousers and polka-dot dresses that would have made Audrey Hepburn herself gasp in approval! I felt like a Hollywood movie star as I tried on every piece of vintage fashion in that shop – I could literally imagine myself in a classic black and white movie! It’s hard to believe some of the items are over half a century old – their quality is timeless!

Oh, I just adore the whole vintage fashion vibe in Milan. The Milanese embrace fashion with so much style and confidence, and there's an effortlessly elegant attitude to it that I just can’t resist. Plus, they look gorgeous doing it! It's really infectious, this Milanese spirit of confidence.

A Pink Tutu’s Delight: Discovering Gelato, Gondolas, and Tram Rides 💖🇮🇹

Let’s face it – my dear lovelies – gelato in Italy is not a luxury, it’s an absolute necessity! Seriously, it’s the perfect dessert (or even midday snack!), especially after a busy day exploring the cobbled streets and vibrant squares. Now, you can find some excellent gelaterias everywhere in Italy. But for me, Milan truly steps up its game. There's something about that classic combination of the creamy, velvety smooth Italian gelato with the chic Milanese style that creates a kind of culinary alchemy.

My current obsession is Gelateria dei Navigli. Nestled in a charming street with a view of the stunning canals, this hidden gem offers the most mouthwatering and flavours. Every time I've walked past the gelateria, I've been seduced by the colours, smells, and that mesmerising, irresistible gelato flavour selection.

I found myself sitting on the canal steps, mesmerized by the view and the delicious gelato, surrounded by happy families and laughing friends. It's a reminder that it's these little moments that truly make a place feel like home, especially when it's filled with a delicious dessert!

It was like a scene straight out of a romantic Italian film! But instead of wearing a beautiful scarlet dress, I was rocking my trusty pink tutu, of course! It’s definitely the best kind of comfort clothing in the heat! As the sun was setting, I grabbed a gelato with my new Italian friend, Giulia. We talked for ages, reminiscing about our favourite ballet memories, and I knew it was going to be a new, lifelong friendship.

And talking of new friendships, let's not forget the lovely Milan tram network, one of my absolute favourite ways to get around the city! The tram network is not just efficient but also offers an exceptional insight into Milanese life! It’s also one of the most stylish places in Milan. Don't underestimate the fashion on board! Even a simple tram ride can feel like an episode of a Milan fashion show – sleek lines, bold colours, and stylish designs dominate. The elegance, the classic designs – you’d think you’ve been transported straight into an iconic French film. And then there are the glamorous grandmothers. Honestly, there's not a single person on these trams who doesn’t dress like they are off to a dinner at a four-star restaurant. The level of stylishness here is just off the charts!

So, darlings, I hope this Milan travel blog filled your hearts with a little pink-tutu-inspired joy and encouraged you to start packing your own stylish luggage! The beauty, the passion, the vibrant culture – it's hard not to fall in love with Milan, just like I have.

Until next time, my dears. Stay fabulous and wear your pink tutus with pride! Ciao Bella!

P.S. Did you know that June 17th marks World Tutu Day? Yes, you heard me right! This global event celebrates the artistry, the passion, and the beauty of dance. So, grab your pink tutu, twirl with your friends, and spread the love of dance. It's a reminder that there's always time for a little sparkle in our lives!

Ciao Bella! See you next week!
