Buongiorno, darling readers!
It’s Wednesday again, and as always, I'm back with another slice of my Milanese adventures! This week has been bursting with the usual dose of Italian glamour and pink tutu fun. I feel like I’m constantly saying this, but I just adore being in this city – it's a truly magical blend of stunning architecture, vibrant fashion, and delicious food. What more could a girl ask for?
Well, if you are anything like me, you will need a delicious Italian pastry and some beautiful, Italian tea with your blog post! It was hard for me to decide which tea or cake to go with as I had so many options to choose from! My sweet treats for this post came from a beautiful bakery, next to the most adorable shop, filled with shoes! It was called "A Tua Scarpa," which in my not-very-good Italian is, “To Your Shoe". I actually wanted to buy every single one of them but I did resist, for the sake of the very full suitcase I already had! (How does this even happen! I don't over pack!) I bought the pastries in preparation for tonight, where I have been invited to go and watch one of the best Italian dancers perform in La Scala! You just don’t turn down an opportunity to watch a performance at La Scala!
Today, after enjoying a lazy morning and a leisurely Italian coffee, I decided to take a trip on the Milanese Tram – they are such beautiful pieces of engineering! In Milan, everything feels so perfectly executed and the architecture is so incredible - it’s truly inspiring. For my afternoon outing, I decided to try on a new tutu – a blush pink number that I recently bought from the most incredible vintage shop tucked away in a little cobblestone street. It's called 'Veste del Tempo,' or “Clothes of the Time" in Italian. They sell absolutely incredible designer and vintage dresses! It was practically calling my name! And how could I resist? Not only did I buy a gorgeous new tutu for a fraction of its original price (yay!) but I found a magnificent pink floral-print dress too, in a truly stunning vintage silk! I feel so fabulous in it, it really is one of the pieces that made my week, and it will undoubtedly feature in a future Instagram post!
The Show Must Go On!You’re going to want to sit down for this! Tonight, I was lucky enough to witness a captivating ballet performance at the famous Teatro alla Scala – one of the most important opera houses in the world! My friend who is studying here in Milan – he is such a handsome chap, (he is very good at his piano recitals) bought two tickets as a little surprise and I couldn't be happier about it.
The performance was breathtaking! The sheer skill of the dancers was almost surreal! You just want to say "how on earth" to yourself over and over! My favourite was this incredible female dancer – she seemed to float on the stage with so much elegance and grace, effortlessly executing each movement with seemingly impossible ease. My eyes were glued to the stage from beginning to end.
My friend tells me that the La Scala performance this week is very special because the guest dancer is one of the most talented Italian male dancers, who is a total heartthrob and everybody loves him! I just adored him; I even caught a glimpse of him after the show as he was leaving - (very quick glimpse, through a sea of other "fangirling" ballet fanatics)! It is wonderful how this ballet community comes together – we are one big family!
I'll try to post pictures of the La Scala production on my Instagram and Tik-Tok (yes, I've decided to finally start Tik-Tok! I’ve already reached out to other ballet dancers I follow, on Tik-Tok, and I hope to start getting a little "follow back"! You never know! You might get to see the guest dancer’s "fanciest of fancies," if you are quick enough and catch my videos! Italian Indulgence!After La Scala, I had the most delightful dinner in the Piazza della Scala, which is right in the heart of the city. The pizza – oh, the pizza! It’s not too greasy and perfectly chewy, not at all what I'd imagine if I wasn't from Derbyshire, where pizza is probably not very exciting and I can never make up my mind about it. As I tucked into the cheesy delight, my stomach could have almost exploded from joy! The Italian food has been spoiling me beyond compare, ever since I've been here. If you can ever get to Milan, don't forget to pop in a visit to my favourite - it's right around the corner from Piazza della Scala.
And just as I was about to end the day and start a blog post, my friend turned up at my Airbnb, with some little Italian delicacies, so I now have to eat something to make space for my extra dessert! But that's life when you have great friends! You need to share good times!
Milan, I’m truly smitten with you. You are a kaleidoscope of beauty and brilliance that makes me want to skip around in my pink tutu until the sun goes down – or at least, until my feet get too tired. You've made my pink dreams come true, in the form of stylish tutus and delicious Italian pizza – what more could a girl ask for?
But don’t you worry! I won’t let a bit of pasta keep me from sharing these pink adventures with you. I promise I will bring you along next week! Maybe, even on one of my trips on the beautiful Milanese Tram – where everyone stares at me in my pink tutu and maybe even smile? One can always dream, can't one?
