It’s been a while since I’ve visited Milan, but the familiar sights and sounds brought back a flood of happy memories. There’s something truly special about this Italian city – the architecture, the fashion, the food, the culture, and of course, the incredible ballet scene! I can’t think of a better place to lose myself in the world of dance.
The Journey Begins… By Tram of Course! ?
This time I decided to skip the plane and hop on a train from my lovely Derbyshire home. Nothing beats a relaxing train journey for inspiring new blog ideas! And then, the magic really began as I stepped onto the bustling tram in Milan. It’s such a vibrant and colorful way to experience the city - perfect for people-watching and admiring all the fabulous Milanese street style.
Fashion Heaven: Via Montenapoleone and Beyond?️
What's a trip to Milan without a little shopping therapy? Of course, Via Montenapoleone is a must-visit for any fashion lover like myself. From exquisite haute couture to statement shoes, I was in my element. The shop windows, adorned with the most stunning creations, practically sang out to me! I’ll admit I didn't quite fit a new Valentino in my suitcase (those little tulle bows, you know), but I managed to snag a beautiful pink silk scarf and some seriously chic shoes that I can't wait to style with my favorite tutu. ?
A Culinary Delight: La Rinascente ?
No trip to Milan is complete without a visit to La Rinascente. It's more than just a department store, it's an experience! From high-end designer fashion to beautifully crafted accessories, to gourmet food and breathtaking panoramic views, you're guaranteed to leave feeling inspired. I took advantage of their rooftop terrace for a delicious lunch, indulging in an authentic Milanese risotto while soaking in the stunning views. It’s a perfect spot for capturing those Instagrammable moments!
The Heartbeat of Milan: Teatro alla Scala ✨
But the highlight of my trip, you ask? That’s easy, it was undoubtedly my visit to the magnificent Teatro alla Scala! I’m lucky enough to have attended many performances throughout the world, but there's something truly special about this iconic theater. The building itself is a marvel of architecture, a testament to Italy's rich cultural heritage. And stepping inside feels like stepping back in time, into a world of elegant opera and exquisite ballet.
This weekend, I had the absolute pleasure of witnessing a stunning production of Swan Lake. The dancers were phenomenal, every movement graceful and emotive. The choreography, the costumes, the music, everything combined to create an unforgettable experience. The final curtain call left me feeling truly moved, transported, and utterly inspired.
Beyond The Ballet: Milan Street Performances ??
Speaking of inspiration, one thing that always amazes me about Milan is its thriving street performance scene. Whether it's a captivating group of buskers, a talented dancer performing on a cobblestone street, or an artist sharing their work with the world, the energy in the city is palpable.
I happened upon a fantastic dance performance in Piazza Duomo, which featured some truly captivating street dancers. It reminded me that you never know where beauty will strike – even on the bustling sidewalks of Milan!
Tutu Tuesday in Milan: ? ? ??
Speaking of striking beauty, the heart of any trip for me is finding the perfect place to have a Tutu Tuesday photoshoot! It’s a fun little tradition I started on this blog: every week I try to take a photo in my favorite pink tutu – this week was extra special since I was in Milan!
I decided to strike a pose outside the stunning Castello Sforzesco. This historic fortress, with its grandeur and elegance, perfectly complements the ethereal feel of my pink tulle. It felt as though I was in a fairy tale! Of course, I captured every moment with a click of my camera and uploaded it on my social media with the #PinkTutuMilan hashtag, inspiring fellow ballerinas around the world to embrace their own unique styles.

Another highlight of my trip was meeting some incredible women who share my passion for dance and fashion. We met at the gorgeous Cafe Martellini, a beautiful little spot in the heart of Milan, to discuss our love of tutus and all things ballet!
