Buongiorno, darlings! Emma here, back from a whirlwind week in the magical city of Milan. It’s a place that really does feel like it’s bursting at the seams with creativity, fashion, and yes, of course, the most beautiful ballet in the world. I spent the week in a dizzying dance between ballet performances, sumptuous shopping trips, and trams whizzing past the stunning architecture, all wrapped in a delicious pink cloud of tulle.
As always, my pink tutu has been a constant companion, swishing happily with me as I explored Milan's streets. You wouldn't believe how many people have stopped to compliment my tulle – Italians have such a flair for style! It truly feels like I've come to the right place to spread the message: everyone deserves a pink tutu in their life!
This week was extra special, though, because Milan had an event I had been looking forward to all year – the "Dance Under the Duomo" festival! The entire city was buzzing with a sense of artistic energy, with street performances popping up at every corner, open air dance workshops and even a captivating ballet performance projected onto the stunning Duomo itself. The city was literally filled with people moving, twirling, and enjoying themselves, and I found myself captivated by the sheer beauty of it all. I was like a little girl lost in a fairy tale, just with much better shoes!
*Of course, my favourite part was the "Dancers on the Tram" event. * I don’t know about you guys, but my life wouldn't be complete without a touch of tulle on public transport, and Milan, my friends, has stepped up to the challenge! I am not talking about a few people in ballet shoes on a tram either, this was a real treat. An entire tram decked out with pink velvet cushions, mirrored ceilings and dancers taking turns performing right there on the tram floor as it travelled across the city. Needless to say, it was an absolute dream come true for me!
This wouldn’t be a trip to Milan without a visit to La Scala, the most famous opera house in the world, of course. They had a production of “La Traviata” playing which had me completely captivated! The story, the costumes, the music – every detail was perfect! Even without ballet shoes and tutus involved (well, except for mine), it had that air of grace and grandeur that I love. The music and storytelling transported me to another world entirely, and I had a feeling I might be on stage right beside those phenomenal opera singers.
*But you know me, I can't let a trip to Milan go by without hitting the shops. * Thankfully, the beautiful Milanese streets are overflowing with fabulous fashion boutiques, making me feel like a ballerina stepping into a dreamland of designer clothing.
This time, I found a little gem nestled away in the side streets: a vintage shop brimming with unique finds. They had the most gorgeous 50s vintage dresses – perfect for a vintage ballerina! I just had to pick out this soft pink and yellow satin dress with a beautiful sweetheart neckline that flowed so beautifully as I twirled. They also had a darling hat with a tulle trim and a little black and white polka dot clutch.
*This was the outfit I chose for my date with the Teatro alla Scala. * The historic opera house had me feeling very “Dolce & Gabbana” in my beautiful new vintage frock. And let’s just say the other ballet enthusiasts in the audience loved my outfit! It was all perfectly twirly and fabulous! (Oh, and I couldn't resist adding my usual pop of pink tulle with a vintage hat, naturally!)
After the performance, I joined the most glamorous post-theatre cocktail hour. Everyone seemed so effortlessly chic, and as I stood there, I realized something important: ballet isn't just about dance, it's about embracing the beauty and the grace in every aspect of your life. Even in a cocktail party with people I had never met, I felt like we were all dancing in the same ballet!
*Milan, for me, feels like a place where you can always find a little bit of magic in every corner, whether it's on a tram, at an opera house, or even at the supermarket. * Just a quick note: you have to try the tiramisu! They make the most exquisite creamy confection here – definitely one of the most delectable moments of the trip!
But of course, my most magical moments always come from being in my pink tutu. You would be amazed how many times my little tutu skirt gets me an extra “Ciao Bella!” or a genuine smile from strangers! This isn’t about a material possession for me, though; the pink tutu embodies everything I believe in: a lightness of spirit, the importance of expressing yourself with creativity, and above all, spreading a touch of happiness into the world. And my gosh, if it gets you a few extra smiles and a sprinkle of glamour along the way, even better!
So there you have it, darlings, my latest Pink Tutu adventures. This week, Milan proved yet again why it’s a place that makes my tutu swirl! Stay tuned for more fun next Monday – I've got another adventure waiting, and you know I won't leave without my pink tutu! Until next time, darlings, and keep twirling!
Don’t forget to follow my adventures on the blog and check out my socials – there is a reason for my signature "Pink Tutu Pose" (that’s when you lift the pink tulle high and stand as tall as you can and, naturally, smile widely!). I love getting to hear about your own fashion journeys, especially if there are pink tutus involved! I'll be at www.pink-tutu.com next Monday, and don't forget to check out the fun posts from Derbyshire - my home town!
** Until next time, lovelies,
Your pink-tutu-wearing, dancing friend,
Emma **
