Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Post #2: A Dream Come True!

Monday 19th June 1995

Hello lovelies! I can hardly believe it’s Monday already, and I’m still buzzing from a whirlwind weekend in the Big Apple! My last blog post left you hanging – well, my darlings, I'm delighted to report I made it to New York City!

Remember how I told you I landed a spot dancing in a professional ballet performance here? And how the troupe had given me the chance of a lifetime by allowing me to perform here for a week, while exploring all New York City has to offer?

Well, my darling, it was all simply perfect!

Just imagine stepping off the plane into the hustle and bustle of JFK airport, then taking a glorious yellow taxi to my little haven for the week, a charming little boutique hotel in the heart of Greenwich Village. The excitement was palpable!

A Parisian Breakfast and the Charm of Greenwich Village

Now, before I go any further, I simply must share my delightful morning ritual with you. Each day began with the most divine breakfast at a cute little café right across from the hotel, with its adorable wrought-iron tables and flower boxes brimming with roses. They serve the most wonderful coffee, fresh croissants, and those little chocolate croissants that melt in your mouth! Oh, how I loved my Parisian-inspired morning routine in the heart of New York City!

I absolutely fell in love with the cobbled streets and charming brownstones of Greenwich Village! There are little antique shops overflowing with treasures and cafes buzzing with people. It feels a bit like stepping back in time – except instead of horses and carriages, there are hipsters and street performers.

And, of course, there are tutus! There are some really quirky vintage boutiques down there. You should have seen me in one, surrounded by swathes of tulle, shimmering sequins, and the most adorable vintage tutus I’ve ever seen! The shopkeeper just giggled when I whipped out my own little pink tulle number. It turns out she was a former ballerina, and her whole shop is dedicated to old ballet costumes!

The Magic of Broadway

Of course, the highlight of the trip had to be the performance itself! We were doing a classic, "The Sleeping Beauty," and the whole thing was pure magic. The stage was spectacular, with massive sets and stunning lighting. It really took my breath away. The energy from the audience was electrifying, and the feeling of sharing this experience with everyone in the theatre was simply incredible.

And the best part? I danced with the New York City Ballet, darling! Yes, the prestigious New York City Ballet. I still get butterflies thinking about it! Imagine the thrill of taking the stage alongside these legendary dancers! We were all a bit nervous before the curtain went up, of course. You see, these girls – well, let’s just say, their dance routines are like lightning bolts! I can only aspire to be half as graceful as them one day. But let me tell you, there's no feeling quite like being part of something so grand and magical!

The Perfect Broadway Dress

Talking of grand and magical – can we talk about the gorgeous frock I found at Bloomingdale's?! I was searching for the perfect outfit for opening night, and honestly, you know how much I adore the colour pink. There was just this pink silk dress – and I have to tell you, darlings, it was a dream come true. The skirt flowed and swirled with each step. You can only imagine the envy when I waltzed into the theatre wearing it!

Shopping Heaven: 5th Avenue

My weekend was a whirlwind of culture, beauty, and of course, shopping. You simply can’t go to New York City without strolling down 5th Avenue! I was overwhelmed with designer boutiques. I almost choked on the air of sheer luxuriousness. I don’t think I’ve ever been surrounded by so much money and glamour in my entire life! It felt like stepping into a fairytale!

We visited Tiffany's, of course, which just screams elegance and grandeur. You just have to marvel at their beautifully curated jewellery collections and feel a bit like you’ve been transported back in time. I just love to imagine Audrey Hepburn waltzing around there.

And how could I resist taking a peek at Henri Bendel, the most stylish department store I’ve ever seen! Everything felt perfectly arranged, from the chic mannequins to the carefully curated handbags. I picked up a few must-have little extras, you know, to make my everyday life feel a bit more fabulous.

Exploring the City That Never Sleeps

After a week of performance, shopping, and delightful discoveries, it was time to leave this beautiful city behind. Before leaving, we took a leisurely walk around Central Park, which I just adore, darling. I love the feeling of green space in the middle of the city, and the iconic image of the New York City skyline peeking through the trees is just stunning! It felt surreal, and I found myself just gazing at the majestic buildings, completely enchanted!

I even hopped onto the subway, and took the 'L' train back to Greenwich Village. You know, I really think they do a good job of maintaining their public transport system! They just add so much character to the city. My journey was just as exciting and enjoyable as any cab ride. The friendly chatter from fellow New Yorkers and the vibrant street art along the platforms felt like another fascinating journey, right from the station doors.

The Final Dance and Saying Farewell

Then, it was time for our final performance. There’s no feeling in the world quite like the excitement of standing centre-stage, taking a deep breath, and knowing you’re about to make everyone believe in magic! As the curtains closed, I just stood there in the afterglow, with my heart overflowing with a mixture of joy and sadness, as we finished our last performance in the iconic Carnegie Hall. The applause of the audience and the feeling of pure accomplishment gave me the most delightful afterglow. I still find myself thinking about the way my body moved and felt with every single dance routine, and the magic in the air as we performed for the New York crowd.

It was, truly, the perfect way to end such a magical adventure!

You see, the amazing thing is that performing in a new city every week and travelling to new destinations, all whilst sharing the magical power of ballet is my ultimate dream come true. And to think I achieved this all through embracing the tutus, the glamour, and of course, the power of pink.

Until next week my darling! Let's spread the magic of tutus, one twirl at a time! Don’t forget to visit my website www.pink-tutu.com every Monday for a dose of fashion and inspiration. And please, if you feel a bit courageous, maybe you should try a little pink tulle, just for fun. Until then, you just have to believe, like I do, in the magic that can come from a little twirl, and of course, the sheer power of a good pink tutu.
