Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Post Number 8: New York City, 31st July, 1995

Dearest Tutu Fans!

Welcome back to another week of adventures from my fabulous NYC travels! Today, I’m bursting with so much to tell you all, I scarcely know where to start! The weekend was positively jam-packed with dazzling performances, delightful shopping discoveries, and, of course, a few twirls and pirouettes here and there. But first, let me tell you all about a magical morning experience!

Morning Ballet Bliss

I’m not a morning person, believe me, but nothing can beat the feeling of stepping into the hushed sanctuary of the Manhattan Dance Studios at sunrise. It was a beautiful day in the Big Apple, sunbeams streaming in through the enormous windows, and the familiar scent of sweat and rosin hanging in the air – a potent concoction that truly speaks to my soul. I joined a delightful ballet class full of young women, eager to learn and grow. There’s something so inspiring about watching others dedicate themselves to the art form, it reminds you why you, yourself, love ballet so much. We practiced barre exercises, centred and extended ourselves with pliés and développés, before we finished with a warm and gentle contemporary routine.

This is why I truly adore this city. The energy, the passion for the arts, the feeling of camaraderie, even amidst such a melting pot of different souls. And the wonderful feeling of seeing new students, of all shapes and sizes, embracing ballet. The best bit, this amazing studio in Manhattan has its own fabulous ballet shop with an absolutely amazing pink leotard, perfect for my latest tutu designs – yes, you heard that right! The creative wheels are turning already. More news soon.

A Day of Theater Magic

You all know I love seeing a great play. Well, last night was positively glorious! We had tickets to a production of "Guys and Dolls", a classic Broadway show that's sure to entertain even the most jaded theater-goer. It was performed with such heart and joy that I couldn’t help but join in with the enthusiastic applause – and even had a quick twirl under the dazzling lights at the curtain call. It’s times like this, in the heart of New York City, where I’m reminded of how incredibly blessed I am to live my life doing what I love.

You know, the thing that I find so exciting about being in New York City is the accessibility of live theatre. You can pop in and out of countless theatres all over town, soaking in an evening of great acting and beautiful storytelling. Even if the acting is a little bit “off-off-Broadway", you never know when you are going to be inspired.

Shopping Sprees & Fashion Finds

After the play, I couldn't resist a little detour to one of my favourite vintage clothing stores on Bleecker Street. A whole new world of wonder awaits! I snagged a stunning pink velvet beret, with a huge tulle bow that could have easily rivalled the one I have on my head right now! And guess what, I’ve already found the perfect pink-tutu-esque garment for my next YouTube video, you'll all have to wait to see that one though. Let’s just say, this one will make you all say oh la la!

I truly believe every woman has an inner ballerina, and every day, I try to help them bring her to life. But sometimes I do it with pink tutus and other times I do it with beautiful vintage finds – a dash of feminine glamour here, a sprinkle of creativity there!

Subway Serenade

As if the day couldn't get any more amazing, my adventure ended with a lovely journey back to my little apartment on the subway. It might sound a bit silly to some, but riding the metro in New York is a beautiful, sensory experience. I am usually transported, with my feet planted firmly on the yellow line, to a world of imaginative possibilities and creative inspiration. There’s nothing quite like hearing the rattle and roar of the train while I lose myself in the vibrant and chaotic sights, sounds, and smells around me. It's an absolute sensory feast, my dear friends!

Tonight I shall indulge in a bit of pampering before bed, listening to Tchaikovsky, you know, I’ve found that it’s best to wind down with some of my favourite classics. Perhaps I’ll watch “Swan Lake” while I slip into something comfortable, (you can be sure, my pink ballet shoes will still be on!). I’ll even share my new favorite city secrets and fashion tips on the Pink-Tutu blog page. You can catch it on www.pink-tutu.com , new posts go up every Monday.

Until then, my darlings, wear pink!

Love,

Emma xxx

    A Little Bit About Me

If you’re a fellow ballet enthusiast or simply a fashion lover, I hope you’ll join me on this exciting journey. You can find me every week, on the www.pink-tutu.com blog! It’s always so much fun to share my adventures with all of you, and I’d love to hear your comments. Maybe we could even plan a meetup for a pink tutu dance party – my vision of ultimate fun, a little more fun even than my trip to Paris in April - although I won’t say I would swap my time there for this time in NYC.

Follow me on my blog, Facebook and Instagram. If you are coming to New York anytime soon, come and join me, we will be going on shopping adventures, ballet classes and enjoying fabulous theater shows!

Happy twirling,

Emma

My Ballet Performance Diary:

You are reading blog post No. 8 in the New York series - my favorite place in the world to be, so far. This is my favorite month here – July! My travels to the States are funded by my ballet performances. Every so often I post updates about my performance schedule, this month was a busy one – I actually gave two shows in two days.

  • 12 July - The ballet studio in Central Park, a magical open-air event.

  • 13 July - The Lincoln Center - a real dream come true. I’ll have to get to a Broadway show soon.

But let’s face it, ballet is much more than a job to me. I have a lot to thank ballet for. Ballet brought me to the States. I was given a lead role in the Derbyshire Dance Theatre last October and it has just led me from one beautiful adventure to another – I never dreamed my tutu could take me so far. I have plans for next year - a solo performance! My own little theatrical performance, how exciting!

Anyway, enough of me – you’re all wondering how you can find out more! Well, you can join me at the website - it’s updated once a week and don't forget I post all the best of my photos on my Facebook and Instagram pages!

Until next Monday, you lucky things.

Love and Twirls,

Emma
