Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #16 - A Pink-Tastic Journey Through New York's Glittering Heart!

Hello darlings! It's Monday again, and you know what that means - another Pink Tutu adventure! This week, I'm thrilled to be sharing with you the magical moments of my latest trip to New York City, the city that never sleeps (and never fails to inspire). I arrived last Tuesday, fresh off a whirlwind tour of the West Coast, and immediately fell into the familiar, frenetic rhythm of the Big Apple.

Now, my lovely readers, you'll know I adore travelling by metro. It's a symphony of sights and sounds, a swirling kaleidoscope of humanity, and truly the most efficient way to get around. On my first subway ride, a charming young man even offered me his seat (such chivalry!), and I must say, my new pink tulle ballerina flats felt like slippers as I glided effortlessly through the bustling platforms.

The moment I emerged into Times Square, I felt that familiar flutter of excitement in my tummy, a thrill that only New York City can deliver. I love the way the air crackles with a contagious energy, the constant pulse of music, the relentless buzz of life. It's an intoxicating mix of grit and glamour, where dreams collide with reality, and possibilities blossom around every corner.

This week has been a whirlwind of pink tutu delights! I managed to sneak in some shopping at Bloomingdale's, where I discovered the most divine pink tulle dress ā€“ oh my goodness, I simply had to have it! The sequins were positively dazzling! It's a perfect piece for my next performance at the Metropolitan Opera House. (Stay tuned, my dears!)

On Wednesday, I indulged in a little ballet therapy at the legendary American Ballet Theatre. Seeing the dancers leap and twirl with such grace and power reminded me why I fell in love with ballet in the first place. Itā€™s an art form that transcends words, and it always leaves me feeling inspired and uplifted.

Later that evening, I had a little pink tutu fun with some Broadway magic! My dear friend Lucy ā€“ she's been my best pal since we were at the Royal Ballet School together, you know - surprised me with tickets to a dazzling new production. You know how I adore a good show. We both swooned over the intricate sets and costumes, and I practically choked on my popcorn at one particular spectacular dance number - those jumps were just phenomenal. Itā€™s one thing to watch them live, but another entirely to experience that kind of pure joy and athleticism on the grand scale of a Broadway theatre.

Thursday, well, that was pure bliss! I spent the day wandering through the Met Museum, lost in a sea of masterpieces. You'd never believe the exquisite collection they have. Itā€™s one thing to study famous artworks in a book, but something entirely different to experience them in person. My inner ballerina was enchanted by all the graceful poses, elegant lines and swirling dresses, particularly in the Renaissance collection. I even took some inspiration from a particularly striking tapestry for my new pink tutu ballet costume design.

Then came the night I had been eagerly anticipating: a dinner with a lovely group of aspiring ballet dancers at a trendy Italian trattoria in Soho. We talked shop, dreams and all the exciting things that lie ahead in the ballet world. And yes, I did bring along my beautiful pink tutu to inspire their creative spark!

The weekā€™s been an absolute dream. I have to admit, I was a little bit apprehensive about heading out for such a long trip while also having my next ballet seasonā€™s auditions in mind. You see, I havenā€™t been a ā€˜professionalā€™ for quite a long time now. Iā€™ve made ends meet by doing quite a few private and professional workshops - and I absolutely love teaching - but it is time for me to dance on the main stage once more. So much has changed since I last did a major audition. A tiny bit nervous doesnā€™t even describe it, but then again, as you all know, my life wouldnā€™t be complete without a touch of drama and excitement!

So much more is yet to be explored in the heart of the city. I can't wait to see what wonders await in the coming weeks.

And you know what, darling readers? Iā€™ve finally been working up the courage to wear a pink tutu at my audition! Why not, I thought to myself - if it can work for me in all my other exciting adventures, why shouldn't I dance in my pink tutu dream! Who knows, maybe they'll see the pink-tastic side of me and give me a shot! And of course, if I donā€™t get picked, then I can certainly dance on the streets of NYC, with all you lovely people! The world needs more pink tutus and pink-tastic energy! Just imagine how much fun the world would be if everyone wore a pink tutu ā€“ oh, the possibilities!

Stay tuned for more adventures, darlings, because the Pink Tutu journey never stops.

PS If youā€™re in NYC and feeling brave enough to dance in the street with me - wear your pink tutus or at least something pink - find me and lets show New York just how much fun pink-tastic style can be!

Here's what else I love about this magical Monday:

1) New York Fashion Week - always a glorious fashion extravaganza! Itā€™s time for designers to showcase their creations for Spring/Summer ā€™96. *I'm eager to see what new styles will inspire the ballet world. (Weā€™re all waiting to see if *that gorgeous new pink fabric, with those shimmering strands of iridescent sequins I saw in the shops, makes an appearance.)

2) A big night for the music lovers, as legendary guitarist, *Eric Clapton is playing a show tonight! *

3) I'm looking forward to seeing ā€œKiss Me Kate,ā€ a brand new Broadway show which opens today. I hear it's a dazzling love story filled with beautiful music and dancing.

4) I must head over to Chelsea to see a *gorgeous exhibit at the newly opened *Gallery 291. Iā€™m longing to see that **avant garde exhibition - an innovative collection of photography and painting that focuses on ā€œthe art of photography for the artistic expression.ā€ The art of seeingā€¦ I simply love that idea!

5) And lastly, * a must for any true New Yorker is seeing whatā€™s in store at the *Brooklyn Flea Market. This amazing market is the place to discover hidden treasures! **Iā€™m hoping to pick up something unique to add to my ballet wardrobe!

This weekā€™s been an amazing mix of dancing, discovering and dreaming in the wonderful, inspiring, energy of New York City. Keep on following the pink, darlings. I'm excited for what our next journey holds together.
