Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #19 - A Dance Through the Big Apple

Monday 16th October 1995

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, back from another whirlwind week in the incredible New York City! This week has been a kaleidoscope of dazzling sights, breathtaking ballet, and oh, so many fabulous finds in the most enchanting shops. As usual, my pink tutu has been the star of the show, swirling through the bustling streets of this captivating city.

New York truly is the most vibrant, energetic city in the world! The buzz is palpable from the moment you step off the metro, the energy just electrifies the air. This week, my love affair with this city was cemented when I saw the most spectacular show – The Nutcracker! It was at the New York City Ballet, the heart of the ballet world in America, and it simply took my breath away. The costumes, the choreography, the orchestra – everything was absolutely stunning. Honestly, seeing a live ballet performance in New York is something every aspiring dancer, and lover of art, should experience at least once in their lives. It was a truly magical evening.

But before we talk about ballet, let's chat about fashion! New York is a haven for shopaholics like myself, and I couldn't resist a little retail therapy this week. From the chic boutiques on Fifth Avenue to the independent shops nestled in charming neighbourhoods like SoHo, I found so much to inspire my wardrobe. There was a delightful vintage clothing store on Bleecker Street with an amazing collection of pastel-coloured dresses and skirts – perfect for my ever-growing pink tutu collection. My favourite find though? A pair of exquisite sparkly pink ballet shoes. I couldn't resist adding them to my shoe collection – I'm certain they will be a must-have for my future ballet performances.

Speaking of performances, you wouldn't believe what happened this week! I got to perform in a small ballet production in the heart of Central Park. Imagine, dancing beneath the twinkling lights of the city, surrounded by the rustling of autumn leaves and the sounds of the city hum. It was a breathtaking experience! And to make it even more memorable, I debuted my new sparkly pink shoes. Let's just say, my performance was even more graceful and dazzling than ever before!

The energy of the city inspired me to experiment with some new street-style looks too. I couldn't resist pairing my pink tutu with a sleek black blazer and a statement pair of bright red heels for a modern, Parisian feel. I was positively shimmering through the streets, receiving compliments from everyone I passed! New York is a city where you can embrace any style – from the vintage glam to the modern street chic, there's a place for everyone.

As a girl from Derbyshire, a quiet town in England, New York City has completely blown me away with its dynamism and energy. I love the diversity of cultures and backgrounds here, the blend of traditional and modern, and the absolute acceptance of anyone, no matter what their style.

Of course, the beauty of the city isn't just its skyscrapers and bustling streets, but also the charm of its green spaces. Central Park, that haven of tranquillity in the midst of the city chaos, was a welcome respite this week. I enjoyed leisurely walks, admiring the autumn foliage and sketching some inspiring ballet poses amongst the lush foliage.

Speaking of autumn, the season's changing colours are casting their vibrant magic over New York, a kaleidoscope of reds, yellows and oranges against the steel and glass of the city. I just love the way the falling leaves add a touch of poetry to the urban landscape.

And of course, no trip to New York would be complete without experiencing the magic of the metro! I have fallen in love with the system’s efficient design, the art that adorns the station walls, and, of course, the opportunity to mingle with New York's diverse community. There’s something exciting and glamorous about travelling on the metro, seeing a cross-section of humanity every day – a mix of businessmen in crisp suits, artists with paint-stained overalls, and even the occasional fashion-forward New Yorker in their very own tutu (you know it’s the Pink Tutu Movement!).

Speaking of spreading the tutu-wearing magic, my dear friends! I can't believe it's taken me this long to reveal my biggest dream! It is a dream I carry in my heart, a vision that takes shape every time I slip on my favourite tutu: To get everyone, in the world, to wear a pink tutu at least once in their lives! Isn’t that just fabulous? Think of the joy, the expression, the dance that would come to life! The pink tutu symbolizes joy, freedom, and of course, the elegance of ballet! I want everyone to experience this feeling.

So, dear friends, if you're ever in New York, or any other part of the world, I encourage you to slip on a pink tutu and let your inner ballerina shine. Don’t be shy, join me! Imagine the world painted pink, a world of twirling joy!

I hope to be back in New York soon with even more adventures to share! Don’t forget to follow my blog at www.pink-tutu.com.

Until next time, darlings,

Stay fabulous,

Emma x
