Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Week 20: Twirling Through The Big Apple!

Helloooo, darlings! It’s Emma, your resident pink tutu-clad traveller, and it's time for another installment of the Pink Tutu Blog NYC!

This week has been a whirlwind of fabulousness, much like the twirls of a ballerina in full flight. And, as you all know, I’m living my best life, flitting between glamorous performances, charming shops, and iconic New York haunts, all while sporting my favourite pink tutus. It’s all rather splendid, I must say.

Today is a particularly special day. We are talking Monday 23rd October 1995! You’ll have to trust me on this – you know, a little time-travel quirk from my end – because my blog is a time capsule for you. Yes, we are dipping into the 90s with a 20th century throwback… How’s that for a sprinkle of retro sparkle?!

Opening Night Sparkle at the Metropolitan Opera House

This week began with the dazzling opening night of The Nutcracker at the Met! My oh my, the whole production was utterly divine – so very classic with beautiful costumes and even more beautiful dancers. My tutu was a very appropriate shade of pastel pink to match the gorgeous candyland world they created on stage, and it even earned me a few admiring glances from the dapper gentlemen seated in the posh balcony seats. They know a girl’s got to look the part when witnessing such stunning artistry!

You know how I adore a good theatre performance, especially those with a touch of spectacle and grandeur. There’s something so magical about witnessing the seamless transitions between story and movement, how the music and the dance tell their own story, without a single spoken word! And don’t get me started on those beautiful pointe shoes...pure magic, I tell you!

Ballet Bliss at The Dance Theatre Workshop

Of course, my ballet adventures didn't stop there! I snuck in a wonderful class at the Dance Theatre Workshop on 15th Street. The energy there was absolutely infectious, with dancers of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds coming together to embrace the art form we all adore! My pink tutu was definitely an eye-catching accessory among the black leotards and pink tights, but I felt so wonderfully comfortable, like a princess in a whimsical wonderland.

And you know what's truly marvellous about the Dance Theatre Workshop? They embrace individuality. You'll see experienced dancers working alongside complete newbies, and it's a sight to behold – all with an equal passion for expressing themselves through dance. Just a quick tip, be sure to grab a coffee from their adorable cafe - it’s the perfect pre or post class treat.

Subway Shenanigans

Now, this wouldn’t be a Pink Tutu Blog NYC entry without a mention of my trusty travel companion, the iconic New York subway. Today, as I rode the E train to my favourite store in Brooklyn, I realised there’s a true magic in navigating this concrete maze of tunnels and platforms. Think about it – beneath the bustling streets of this city, there’s a whole hidden world! I absolutely love the hustle and bustle – the rhythm of the subway doors, the announcements crackling over the speaker, the laughter and conversation as commuters go about their daily routines… there’s an undercurrent of adventure and life unfolding, right before your eyes. It’s a truly exhilarating experience!

A Shopping Extravaganza in Brooklyn

Ah, Brooklyn… A true haven for a pink tutu loving gal like me!

First on the itinerary was a little shopping at Dansk. I simply adore their homewares and they always have such exquisite finds for any vintage lover – they really cater to those wanting to add some flair to their homes! It’s hard to leave empty-handed when you have a trove of stunning designs, colourful kitchenware, and oh, so much elegant china begging to be picked up!

My other favourite spot in the borough is Barneys New York in Chelsea – talk about retail heaven! It’s such a chic and stylish spot, filled with high-end designer labels. If I’m going to spend money on clothing (and you know I can't resist a well-tailored outfit) then Barneys New York is always my go-to place for luxurious treasures! This trip, I picked up a gorgeous sequined top - the perfect addition to my wardrobe! You see, a little bit of glamour is what makes my tutu adventures so special… a girl can never have too much sparkle!

Pink Tutu Tip

While you are exploring the Brooklyn scene, stop by Brooklyn Flea - you are sure to find some lovely, quirky treasures to adorn your home, or maybe even a unique vintage find for your next ballet performance! They’ve always got a beautiful collection of curated antiques and retro items… a true treasure trove! And you know I love a bargain!

Delicious Delights and A Pink-hued Dinner Date

Oh my goodness, a blog about New York wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the delicious food scene. This evening, I'm having a fabulous pink-tutu inspired dinner date with a fellow tutu enthusiast – how divine is that?!

We are headed for a delicious meal at a new restaurant I just found on West Broadway in Soho called Cafe de Paris. It's a stunning Parisian style restaurant, adorned with beautiful florals and an abundance of warm lights, which sets a very romantic atmosphere – so, I knew it would be perfect! Of course, I'll be sure to show them a pink tutu photo op to go with their fabulous decor - don't want them missing out on the excitement, you know? And we’ll be enjoying French-inspired delights like delicious beef bourguignon and crepes that are so light, it's like floating on a cloud... Oh, and there is going to be champagne, of course! A night in Soho is never complete without a bubbly or two.

Time for a Little Dreamy Relaxation

Right, darlings, it's time for me to head back to my hotel room to slip into a steaming bath (my preferred way to unwind after a long day!), and of course, I'll be making sure I'm wearing my gorgeous pink tutu under my softest white robe - there’s just no other way to unwind. I've already got my next ballet show tickets planned for next week, so I'll be sure to keep you all updated with more New York escapades!

So, what’s in store for you this week?

  1. Embrace your inner-ballerina – even if it's just twirling around your living room in your favourite outfit. You’ll feel the magic, I promise!
  2. Have you got any plans to see a ballet or performance in your local town? If so, tell me about them – I love to hear about your adventures!
  3. Take a moment to step into a coffee shop, or perhaps explore your city centre – soak up the sights and sounds – a moment of adventure and relaxation is always good for the soul.
  4. Try out a new restaurant – something delicious or adventurous! It doesn’t have to be fancy… just a step out of your comfort zone to explore the tastes and culinary magic that's waiting for you right around the corner!

Well, darlings, until next week, I’ll leave you with the lovely feeling of a pink tutu fluttering gently in the New York City air. Until next time! Remember – be happy, be kind and embrace the wonder and magic that is all around you!
