Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Post #32: A Magical Monday in the Big Apple!

Hello my darling dears! Emma here, reporting live from the concrete jungle, where the only thing more exciting than the skyline is the chance to spin, twirl, and prance in my favourite pink tutu! Today’s post is extra special, because not only is it a Monday (which, for those of you who don’t know, is my day for updating you all with all things NYC!), but today is the 15th of January, 1996, a date that is forever etched in my memory as the day I truly fell in love with this phenomenal city.

For a Derbyshire girl like me, New York City was a dreamland. Stepping off that train and into Grand Central Station, I was dazzled by the sheer grandeur of it all. But the most amazing thing wasn’t the architecture (though it was stunning, no doubt!) – it was the energy. The city pulsated with a kind of electricity that charged you up with sheer life force.

And to think, this was all before I even slipped on my signature pink tutu!

A Ballet Bonanza!

Before heading into the vibrant heart of Manhattan, I had a most splendid morning: a ballet class at the American Ballet Theatre Studio. I'm still basking in the glow of a truly phenomenal class led by an incredible instructor, Miss Valerie. I absolutely adore taking classes in different locations; it adds a new dimension to my dancing, stretching me (figuratively and literally!) in ways I never thought possible.

It seems like every week I have a new, exciting ballet-related experience to share with you all. The highlight of this past week was a glorious evening spent at the New York City Ballet. They’re staging a new production of Swan Lake, and you won’t believe the costumes! Absolutely breathtaking. They even had a few feathers, oh my! Of course, I managed to catch a glimpse of the iconic pink tutus, which sparked a delightful nostalgia in my heart.

It's no surprise that seeing such magnificent dancers in their beautiful attire really gets me feeling inspired. The stage lights, the thunderous applause, the vibrant energy – there's no other feeling in the world that compares to sharing a beautiful story told through dance. It’s such a privilege to experience this firsthand!

And you know what? Watching all those talented ballerinas inspires me to keep dancing in my pink tutu – even when I’m walking down a bustling city street or even, heaven forbid, commuting via the subway.

Tutu-tastic Trends and The Metro Majesty

Now, before we venture into the realm of fashion and shopping, I must tell you about my thrilling journey on the Metro this morning. It seems a fellow traveller couldn’t take his eyes off my tutu! We ended up having a most delightful conversation about the joy of dance and the elegance of pink.

I do find the New York metro is a brilliant way to navigate the city – so much easier than battling the cabs. But let me warn you – not all journeys are equal! Today, as I glided effortlessly (and in my tutu!) across the subway platform, it dawned on me that the journey is every bit as important as the destination! After all, where’s the fun in rushing?

Oh, I simply adore this city! I can never be bored in the heart of Manhattan. From the minute I wake up to the moment I drift off to sleep, it’s a nonstop journey of wonder! I try to squeeze every bit of magic from the city that I possibly can.

Fashion Finds: A Whirlwind of Trends

Let's move onto my absolute favourite subject, shall we? Today, the fabulous shops of Fifth Avenue called to me, beckoning me with their displays of colourful delights. Oh my, how I love a bit of retail therapy! I adore finding pieces that capture the essence of a whimsical Parisian princess - think cascading skirts, delicate lace, and of course, the ubiquitous shade of pink!

Today's haul? Let's just say a dazzling floral print blouse paired perfectly with a blush pink A-line skirt made its way into my wardrobe! Don't forget to look out for a photo in the upcoming weeks! You’ll have to wait until next week’s blog post to see exactly how I put this outfit together!

Speaking of outfits, did you know there is a whole new movement happening? Tutus, of all things! Imagine my delight when I found out that this iconic symbol of ballet has started to seep into the mainstream fashion world. Who would have thought that a garment associated with a performance would make it to the streets! Oh, this has made my heart skip a beat! You’re sure to catch me embracing this exciting trend. The next post will feature some fabulous ideas on how to make your everyday outfits tutu-licious!

Tutu Tales: A Whimsical Reminder

Of course, all this talk about fashion and ballet reminds me of a little secret. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve dreamt of making everyone, I mean everyone, feel the magic of a tutu.

This isn’t about taking away from the graceful beauty of classical ballet or its demanding athleticism. This is about adding a touch of whimsy, of magic, to everyday life! Just a little pink tutu, a burst of colour and a reminder to stay playful and vibrant! Imagine, wouldn't the world be a more delightful place if every so often, you’d catch someone whirling past, wearing a gorgeous, pink, tulle tutu? Wouldn’t that be glorious?

So my dears, it’s time to wrap up for now. I have a feeling my day is about to get a whole lot more glamorous! It seems I'm set to take the stage at the grand Broadway Theatre this evening. No, no, I'm not a full-time dancer! (Though wouldn’t that be divine? One day, perhaps!). I’m lucky to be performing with the city’s finest symphony orchestra in a ballet-inspired fundraiser. Imagine, a tutu under the stage lights of Broadway! It’s simply magical!

I do hope this glimpse into my little world of pink tutus, ballet, and all things New York has brightened your Monday! Don’t forget to check out my website www.pink-tutu.com for more photos and posts throughout the week! Until next time, keep spinning, twirling and, of course, staying delightfully pink!

Lots of love,

Emma xx
