Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post 35 - Dancing in the Big Apple!

Hello my lovely pink tutu enthusiasts! It's Monday again, which means another fabulous instalment of my NYC adventures! As always, I'm here to share my latest ballet escapades, my shopping sprees, and my thoughts on the absolute magic of this wonderful city.

I’ve just returned from the most exhilarating weekend in the Big Apple, filled with enchanting ballet performances, chic shopping excursions, and delicious New York pizza, of course! You know, that cheesy goodness is practically a religion here – and one I am totally happy to be a devout follower of.

This weekend's adventure kicked off on Friday, with a much-needed treat for my ballet-loving soul: a stunning performance at the Metropolitan Opera House. They were performing Giselle, one of my absolute favourite ballets, and it was truly breath-taking. The choreography was stunning, the costumes magnificent (especially the ethereal wispy dresses for the wilis!), and the dancers were absolutely phenomenal! It was just the pick-me-up I needed after a week of rehearsals and teaching. Speaking of which, my latest choreography class is going fantastically! My students are all really keen, and I'm enjoying the creative process so much. I have a real passion for passing on my love of ballet to others, and it fills my heart with joy to see their enthusiasm.

After the ballet, we headed over to Fifth Avenue for some retail therapy, because let’s be honest, what trip to New York is complete without it? You really do have to go all out for a little pampering. Now, I'm not one to spend lavishly – especially with my shoes costing a small fortune - but there’s just something about shopping on Fifth Avenue that’s undeniably alluring. There was, of course, a new pink tutu to be acquired at a little boutique on the street that I’m sworn to secrecy about, (it's a secret treasure that's only available to a select few!), as well as a brand new cashmere sweater in a gorgeous dusty pink shade. I can already tell that this outfit will be a perfect addition to my burgeoning winter wardrobe. I’m hoping it will be just the ticket for my upcoming trip to Central Park, which is happening tomorrow!

Saturday started early, with a much-needed workout at my favourite ballet studio in Manhattan. It was just the thing to shake out those aching muscles after all those Friday night festivities, and, oh, how it warmed me up for the day ahead! It felt utterly glorious to be working up a sweat with a gaggle of enthusiastic dancers, especially in the bustling metropolis! New York has an undeniable buzz that gets your adrenaline pumping!

Following a healthy (but delicious) lunch of smoked salmon and cream cheese on a bagel (don’t judge!), we hit the pavement again. We wanted to take advantage of all the wonderful, exciting and inspiring activities on offer in New York. I'd seen some amazing street performances in Times Square earlier in the week. They truly capture the vibrant energy of the city. One particular performance featured an incredibly talented street musician whose artistry had me mesmerized, not to mention a group of break dancers that quite literally flipped out! (Sorry, couldn’t resist that one.)

You might think that after a Friday of ballet and a Saturday of sightseeing I might need to slow down. But where’s the fun in that? Tonight I’m off to see the amazing dancers at the American Ballet Theatre, their production of The Nutcracker, so it’s a little late night of tutus and magic for me. Now, as a self-proclaimed ballerina enthusiast, I am absolutely beyond thrilled to experience the spectacle that is The Nutcracker in this phenomenal city.

New York, it truly is the city that never sleeps! I have to tell you, though, even with my seemingly limitless energy levels (probably all the calories from those bagels), I am SO ready for the comfort of my own bed! But only after a well-deserved slice of pizza, naturally. You see, one thing I can't leave New York without is my daily fix of pizza! There’s simply something magical about it here. The crust, the toppings, the whole experience is absolutely sensational!

So, dear readers, as I settle in for a restful Sunday, filled with thoughts of the magic of the stage, my recent purchases, and the delicious scent of freshly-baked pizza, I find myself brimming with an insatiable love for this incredible city! Until next week, I shall be living, laughing and dancing with the city lights glistening over me. I’m convinced that it is only a matter of time until we all sport pink tutus with the pride of New York City dwellers. Just you wait and see. It will be truly glamorous!

Stay beautiful and keep twirling, my darlings!
