Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Post Number 36 - A February Fantasy in the Big Apple

Monday 12th February 1996

Hello my lovely readers! Another week has flown by and I'm so thrilled to be back with you on my little corner of the internet - the Pink Tutu Blog. As you know, my mission in life is to encourage everyone to embrace their inner ballerina, to twirl with joy, and to never be afraid to add a splash of pink to their wardrobe. Today, I'm going to share some fabulous adventures from my time in New York City. This week, my darling readers, has been filled with tutus, theatre, and shopping. Oh, the wonders that the Big Apple holds!

As a quick update, I'm still living it up in my tiny but oh-so-charming studio apartment in Greenwich Village. It's got that quintessential New York City charm with exposed brick walls, a balcony overlooking a quaint little street, and just enough space for my dance bag, my wardrobe, and all the delightful items I've collected on my travels.

And now, for the details of my fabulous week!

Tuesday: My Tuesday began bright and early with a trip to Lincoln Center. You simply cannot visit New York without experiencing the wonders of ballet at Lincoln Center! This time, I caught the New York City Ballet performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. Oh, the artistry! The music! The choreography! It was an enchanting night, and I'm still humming those melodies. The way they bring Shakespeare to life on stage is a marvel to behold, with such beautiful movements and expressions.

Wednesday: The best part about being a ballerina in New York is having access to world-class dance studios. This week, I took a class at the renowned Steps on Broadway studio in Midtown. The teachers are fantastic, and the atmosphere is buzzing with energy. It's inspiring to see so many talented dancers come together in one space, sharing their passion. After class, I did a little window shopping on Fifth Avenue - you can never have too many pairs of ballet flats!

Thursday: Now, I know what you're thinking: Emma, a week without a visit to the Metropolitan Opera House? Never! The Met is one of my favourite places in New York. The building is majestic, and the atmosphere is so electric. This time, I went to see “Rigoletto”. The performance was absolutely spectacular. It's funny, though. When I first got to New York, the operas were rather intimidating - I wasn't familiar with many of the storylines or musical forms. Now, though, it's just such an exciting cultural experience!

Friday: What better way to kick off the weekend than with a Broadway show? My friend Chloe, a fellow ballerina I met at Steps on Broadway, took me to see “Chicago.” The dancing, the costumes, the music - I was completely mesmerized! It’s a razzle-dazzle, sassy spectacle and so, so good. We've already discussed heading to see “Phantom of the Opera” next week, so do look out for my blog about that next week. It’s also something on my list that needs ticking off!

Saturday: Saturday was a day dedicated to the ultimate fashion pilgrimage - shopping! There's no place on earth like New York for a spot of retail therapy. I first wandered through the enchanting boutiques of the West Village, discovering hidden gems and independent designers. Next, it was time to explore the glorious flagship stores of my favourite high-end labels on Fifth Avenue, soaking up the glamorous atmosphere. My handbag might be heavy, but my heart is filled with pure joy.

Sunday: The final day of the week was a chance to simply breathe in the atmosphere of this remarkable city. After a long hot chocolate and delicious pastries at a cosy little cafe in SoHo, I took a stroll through Central Park, a magical green haven in the heart of Manhattan. With a symphony of bird song in the air and the sun kissing my cheeks, it was a blissful way to wrap up a glorious week.

Travel Talk: As usual, the trusty subway has been my faithful companion for navigating this grand city. One thing that always strikes me in New York is the vibrant street performers. On my travels through the city this week, I stumbled upon a captivating ballet performance, held right there in the middle of the sidewalk! Imagine my joy! These spontaneous bursts of artistic energy always brighten my day. It seems that creativity truly thrives in every corner of this magnificent city.

Style Notes: As a ballerina who adores all things pink, I feel I simply have to write about some of the exquisite fashion trends I encountered this week. First, I have to share my absolute love affair with the fabulous pink fur coat I snagged on Saturday. The colour, the texture, the luxurious feel! This has certainly given a flamboyant twist to my usual ballet chic. Another standout fashion item that captured my attention was the stunning lace gown I saw at a show in Midtown. The details, the colours, the elegance – I just have to have one for myself! I know, I know, I have so many pink tutu outfits!

And finally, to all my darling readers: remember that a touch of pink and a twirl or two can turn an ordinary day into an extraordinary one. And remember, the Pink Tutu Blog is all about celebrating the magic of dance and finding joy in the everyday!

Have a magical week, everyone, and remember to spread your wings and twirl with glee!

Lots of love, Emma xx
