Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #42 – Dancing in the Big Apple

Hey darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, ready to whisk you away to the wonderful world of New York City, and, as always, to the magical world of the pink tutu!

Today marks a new adventure in the Big Apple, and let me tell you, this one’s extra special! You see, for a whole year I've been working towards this – saving my pennies from my ballet performances and picking up the odd side gig as a shop assistant for a rather wonderful boutique in Derbyshire. What was all this saving for, you ask? Why, this week’s big event, of course! Ballet week in New York!

My lovely, kind-hearted (and rather wonderfully stylish) aunt, Harriet, booked us tickets to see the prestigious New York City Ballet perform at the legendary Lincoln Center. The Lincoln Center – how utterly fabulous! To think I would be spending the evening watching a performance in the very same building where world-renowned ballerinas have graced the stage is almost too exciting to handle! I even made a point of wearing a special tutu – you see, I believe that a fabulous tutu warrants a fabulous performance.

But before the main event, darling, I thought we should kick-off the week with a visit to Broadway! How absolutely divine! Mamma Mia! (Just kidding, although I am tempted, haha! And that's a big "HA HA", if you catch my drift). I always make a point of catching a Broadway performance when I visit New York – it’s simply an unmissable spectacle! It’s not every day you get to experience live theater at its finest, and to think that these iconic shows happen night after night! This time around, I treated myself to Cats. Now, don't judge before you see it. The music's catchy, and the costumes... well, they're an experience, that's for sure!

The vibrant, pulsating energy of New York is certainly contagious, and I spent a great deal of the day simply walking the streets, taking in the sights, soaking up the atmosphere, and most importantly, window-shopping, darling! It goes without saying, there are some extraordinary vintage clothing boutiques dotted around the city! (One in particular – I won’t give away its secret yet, but, darling, it was simply fabulous! ) Now, we’re not talking high-end couture; it’s the sort of place you can truly indulge in that little bit of vintage sparkle – think lace, ruffles, and a sprinkle of disco chic, the perfect place to add a dash of 1920s flapper glamour or 80s neon extravagance to my existing tutu wardrobe.

But let's get back to our pink tutu for a moment, darlings. As we've all discovered, no trip to New York City would be complete without a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. Now, what makes the perfect bridge crossing you ask? Well, a gorgeous sunrise (thank you New York City), the stunning Manhattan skyline peeking out from the other side, and of course… a fabulous pink tutu, of course! Every opportunity I have to embrace my pink tutu lifestyle, I take! That's what keeps this pink tutu dream alive, darling!

One thing I absolutely adore about this city is that you're never too far from the subway system. From the heart of Manhattan to the quieter Brooklyn neighborhoods, the metro is my haven, and the perfect spot to soak up the city’s unique spirit! Of course, one must be wary of the odd character that can be found hanging out in the metro system! And, while I love a dash of glitter in my life, I do draw the line at the occasional oddball found enjoying the hustle and bustle of New York City's iconic underground system. But no worries, my darling; the most interesting stories come from those who dare to explore. Just the other day, I was admiring the amazing art installation they had created on the platform when a rather quirky fellow started a conversation with me. Turns out he was a street performer (he wasn't particularly impressive – and definitely not as much fun to watch as our very own Pink Tutu Crew!) But, to my utter delight, he showed me how to make an origami crane!

New York is simply brimming with so many unexpected adventures! From strolling along the famous Fifth Avenue and gawking at those magnificent Tiffany & Co. displays to diving into the vibrant Chelsea Market, each street corner, alleyway, and doorway holds the promise of another fascinating story to tell!

On the subject of food, New York has it all! I've already made a trip to Russ & Daughters – a true New York deli icon, for all you bagel lovers! Now, we’re talking some seriously fabulous bagels and schmear! This place, my darling, it’s legendary. If you are lucky enough to make it to the Big Apple, then a visit to Russ & Daughters is a must! Oh, and be sure to keep an eye out for the bright pink tutu girls! My posse, you see! You can spot us a mile away with our high heels and pink tutus, gracefully dancing down those busy Manhattan streets.

Talking of pink tutus – did you know that in my humble opinion, every pink tutu deserves to be photographed? So, for a slice of quintessential New York city life – or if you happen to see a gaggle of pink-tutu clad girls strutting around the city – why not stop by and say hello? You can even grab a photo and tag it #PinkTutuNYC!

I can't believe how much I've seen in just one day – but remember, my lovelies, this is just the beginning! Stay tuned for a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the magical world of ballet! From backstage at the Lincoln Center to rehearsals and maybe even a spot of pink tutu choreography, this week is sure to be full of tutus, laughter, and a sprinkle of that magical New York magic!

Until next Monday, my loves, keep twirling, keep dancing, and keep spreading the love!

With much pink tulle and love,

Emma xxx
