Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #44 - A Week of Pink in the Big Apple (April 8th, 1996)

Good morning, my lovely tutu-tastic friends! I'm back from a whirlwind week in New York City, and oh, the stories I could tell! The city truly lived up to its hype, and I managed to cram so much fun, fabulousness, and pink, well, into every waking moment!

Let me begin by saying that I landed in NYC in my signature pink tutu (of course!). And let's be honest, it was an instant icebreaker. From the cab driver who smiled at me, to the lady behind the counter in my favourite coffee shop, people just lit up when they saw the pink twirling delight. There's something about a tutu that makes people happy, wouldn't you agree?

My first stop? The legendary Macy's! I couldn't believe how HUGE it is! They have entire floors dedicated to cosmetics and shoes! I did, of course, find some perfect new additions to my tutu collection. A delicate, sparkling tulle in a soft rose shade? Tick. A bright, vibrant magenta skirt that makes even a grey day feel cheerful? Tick, tick! I think my suitcase is already bursting with lovely pink finds.

On Wednesday, I had the absolute privilege of seeing a ballet performance at the New York City Ballet. The programme featured Swan Lake, and my dear, it was stunning! The dancers were breathtaking, and I found myself holding my breath throughout the entire second act. Afterwards, I spent an hour swooning over the beautiful costumes – so much pink, and the details! Simply divine.

After all that ballet bliss, a bit of Broadway was in order. I saw "Rent" on Thursday, and while the story isn't light and fluffy, it was absolutely powerful. It was so exciting to be there, surrounded by the energy and creativity that permeates every corner of that theatre. And, if I’m honest, the costumes were a total inspiration for a future tutu creation…

Saturday was dedicated to exploring the city itself. I took the Metro – such a fun and efficient way to get around! My trip culminated in Central Park. I sat under the weeping willow trees (my favourite kind) and listened to some talented buskers, enjoying the springtime breeze and the symphony of city sounds. And of course, I twirled a little (in my tutu, obviously!).

I wouldn’t be a proper travel blogger if I didn’t talk about the food! My week was a culinary adventure – I tried everything from street food like bagels and hot dogs, to fancy fine dining in the Upper East Side (a magnificent strawberry tart!), and, of course, lots and lots of pizza. Let's just say my tastebuds are dancing in my ears from all the deliciousness.

But even more important than the food and the shows was the sense of joy and the beautiful diversity I found in New York. Everyone seems to be chasing their own dreams, with boundless energy and a positive spirit. And I think, my dearest readers, that's something worth cherishing.

Before I go, a few words on the subject of pink tutus, naturally. This week, I managed to encourage at least three people to embrace the pink tutu! One gentleman in a coffee shop, one little girl with bright, curious eyes, and a woman with an absolutely radiant smile. And I have a feeling their little pink journeys are just beginning.

Don't be shy, my dears. Embrace the pink! You never know where it will lead you.

See you next Monday,

Emma,

XOXO
