Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #49 - Twirling Through Times Square

Hello my lovely pink-tutu-loving darlings! It's Emma here, and you know what? New York City is just buzzing with a fabulous energy. As you all know, I am absolutely obsessed with everything this vibrant city has to offer, from the towering skyscrapers to the bustling Broadway shows to the endless possibilities for a gorgeous new outfit. And my latest adventures here have been more magical than a sugared dream!

This week, I thought it would be utterly delightful to tell you all about my adventures as a twirling, twirling ballerina here in the Big Apple! For those of you who are new here, let me give you a little rundown: My name is Emma, and I'm a pink-tutu-loving, ballerina from the glorious county of Derbyshire in England. Now, while I adore my home village, I just have to say that New York is the most magical city on earth for a girly-girl like me! It's like a whole kaleidoscope of glitz and glam, just begging me to don my pink tutu and spin under the neon signs!

A Touch of Broadway Magic

Oh, my dears, there’s something about the magic of Broadway that gets my heart truly skipping a beat. It's almost as though the sheer talent and energy of the performers make the entire city shimmer! This past week, I was lucky enough to see the beautiful, “The Lion King” at the Minskoff Theatre. It was truly enchanting! The music was powerful and uplifting, the costumes were absolutely stunning (the colours were so bright and vibrant, they actually took my breath away!) and the animals… Oh my, the animal characters! They brought such realism to the show. I felt completely swept away in the story, and my pink tutu seemed to blend seamlessly with the fantastical atmosphere!

After the show, the energy of the theatre was electrifying. My friend and fellow ballet aficionado, Olivia, suggested we grab a coffee at a cute little café just a short walk from the theatre. It was perfect for indulging in some gossip about the show and catching up on the latest ballet news. You see, one of the amazing things about New York City is the strong ballet scene!

New York City Ballet & the Metropolitan Opera House

We went to the Met Opera for a truly elegant ballet performance the other day. It was incredible! The costumes, the movements, the skill and talent - I was truly blown away. I even saw a performance at the Metropolitan Opera House on Friday night. Did you know that they have one of the most important ballet companies in the entire country? That was just incredible - the talent was top notch, and the whole performance felt absolutely transcendent. Oh, how I wish I could share it all with you! I simply had to wear my pink tutu - there's no better outfit for a magical ballet night, is there?

And as an added bonus, they’ve recently renovated the historic New York State Theatre, home to the incredible New York City Ballet. What a breathtaking venue for all those magical dance moves. This is definitely on my list to see when I’m back next time!

Exploring the City: From Ballet to Bling

Now, I’d be lying if I didn't confess that while I absolutely love the ballet, I also have a very special place in my heart for a little fashion therapy! Luckily, New York City has shops to suit every budget, every style, every colour... especially pink! I am actually considering finding a part-time job just to satisfy my fashion obsession here!

From Fifth Avenue’s designer boutiques to Soho's vintage finds, there's just so much to choose from, and I find myself drawn back again and again. This past week, I've found myself completely smitten with vintage clothing, with those fantastic 1950s dresses - so adorable! One shop on 5th Avenue has some really glamorous pink accessories - some fantastic feather boas, pearl necklaces, and even the most beautiful pink silk scarves - I just have to go back! It seems the vintage fashion scene is actually taking off in New York!

Dancing through the Streets

Even though my schedule has been jam-packed with ballet performances, fashion exploration and sightseeing, I couldn’t miss the chance to take in the vibrant energy of the city streets. Walking through Times Square in my pink tutu just has to be experienced - there's no better way to feel the pulsing rhythm of New York City! Every moment in this city feels magical, and it seems like everyone here is embracing their individuality. The colours are everywhere, the street style is fantastic, and it all adds up to such a joyful experience. The music pouring from every store and busker just makes my heart sing! And every single corner seems to have some kind of fantastic performance - there were even breakdancers performing just a short stroll from our hotel.

Oh, did I mention I stay at a lovely boutique hotel in the heart of Midtown Manhattan? It is a real dream. Every room is beautifully decorated - it is completely girly, with an overwhelmingly pink color scheme! But then, I can’t really complain about that, can I?

Sharing My Love of Pink and Tutu

One of my favourite parts of visiting New York City has got to be the wonderful energy that I feel in the streets. As you know, I’m a firm believer in the power of spreading a bit of joy wherever you go, and there is truly nothing quite like seeing a little girl in Times Square smiling at my pink tutu and running to her mom with such excitement, asking to wear one! That’s one of my ultimate goals - to share my love of pink tutus and ballet with everyone! I'm not quite sure how I'll convince my fellow Brits to go all-out pink tutu style just yet (I am convinced they'd adore it once they tried!), but for now, I’m absolutely enjoying my pink tutu escapades here in New York. I’ve found that if you’re bold enough to embrace your love of pink tutus and go after your dreams, you never know where you’ll end up!

Oh, I simply cannot wait for next week's adventure! We're taking a little trip to Central Park - and, of course, I’m already packing my pinkest tutu and a pair of comfy ballerina flats for exploring all that glorious greenery!

See you next Monday!

**Love,

Emma**

P.S. If you're ever in New York City, come and join me for a ballet performance, a spot of shopping, or even just a walk through Times Square in your pink tutu. We'll have a simply fabulous time!
