Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post 82 - December 30th 1996 - Dancing in the Big Apple!

Oh my darling readers,

Happy Monday from a very excited Emma! Can you believe it's already the 30th of December?! It feels like only yesterday I was packing my pink suitcase, filled with all my sparkly dance gear and enough tutus to fill a small boutique, for my big New York adventure. And what an adventure it's been!

For this trip, I'm actually combining my passion for ballet with my love of performing, which has been a dream come true! I landed a fantastic gig, you see, performing with the amazing New York City Ballet – oh the glamour, the crowds, the iconic Lincoln Center! I've even been fortunate enough to share the stage with some true ballet legends!

As a bit of background, I have a confession to make – I grew up in Derbyshire, England, and let’s just say that there wasn't a huge ballet scene back then. But that didn’t stop me! From the age of three, I was twirling in my pink tutu and tap shoes in every living room in the neighbourhood! Luckily, I found the love of my life in ballet pretty early, so when I was just a bit older, I started taking lessons at the local ballet school. The rest, as they say, is history. Now I’m dancing my way across the globe, sharing the joy of ballet with audiences everywhere I go.

You see, my little pink tutu journey started a few years back when I realised how happy wearing pink and twirling around in tutus made me. Then it hit me - if I loved it so much, perhaps others would too? So, I started this blog to encourage everyone to embrace the beauty and joy of dancing, tutus and, of course, a good dose of pink! I want everyone to know that life’s about expressing yourself, embracing what makes you happy, and what could be better than doing that whilst dressed like a pink sugarplum fairy? 😉

Anyway, back to my big New York adventure! Now, I know I’ve been posting about my whirlwind performances and late nights at Lincoln Center, but you can’t go to the Big Apple without exploring a little, right? So, of course, I had to do a bit of shopping!

My favourite place is Fifth Avenue. It’s like stepping into a movie, with all the grand department stores like Macy's and Bloomingdales, and oh my goodness, the windows! You could spend hours just gazing at all the fabulous fashion displays, but honestly, that’s just half the fun! Getting lost in a department store like a little girl in a sweetie shop is my favourite kind of shopping – except instead of sweets, I'm filling my basket with fluffy tutus, shimmering tops, and oh, a few sparkly pink things here and there. This week I've discovered a new favourite shop, a small independent called "The Ballerina's Dream". They've got the most stunning array of dance wear, from classic tutus to contemporary separates, and, oh, so many shades of pink. My credit card took a serious hit, but, honestly, that’s just part of the fun, right? You gotta treat yourself once in a while.

Aside from the shopping, another big part of my New York adventure is taking the subway. It's such an iconic part of the city, and there’s a kind of magical, almost romantic atmosphere underground! I just love watching the world whizz by as the train rattles along, from street musicians busking, to business men rushing home, and even a few other pink-loving ballet fans! There’s so much going on, so many different faces and stories all bundled together, it feels like a little window into the very heart of New York. Plus, it's really easy to navigate!

Now, the big question - how have I managed to fund all these shopping trips and ballet adventures, you might ask? Well, it’s all down to my incredible performances! I’ve been fortunate enough to make a career out of something I’m so passionate about. It takes hard work, a whole lot of dedication, and of course, some fantastic tutus, but I’m absolutely living the dream! I have to confess, it's not all sequins and smiles – performing takes a lot of strength, dedication, and it definitely helps if you’re not afraid of a few blisters. However, the rewards are huge!

I wouldn’t have it any other way!

But wait! It gets even better!

Tonight, I’m finally seeing a real Broadway show, and I’m totally fangirling. You’ll have to wait till next week to hear all the details, though. It’s just going to be way too amazing to write about tonight!

However, I must leave you with a final thought before I head out on my glamorous Broadway adventure. Remember to follow your heart and your dreams, darling readers! I truly believe that if you put your heart and soul into something, you can achieve anything! Even if that means spreading a little bit of pink and tutu-tastic joy to the world, one pirouette at a time.

That’s all for today! I can’t wait to share all about Broadway with you next week. Until then, keep on twirling!

Loads of love, Emma.
