Pink Tutu Blog: NYC - Post #107 - June 23rd 1997

Oh, hello lovelies!

It's Monday, so you know what that means… it's time for another pink tutu-filled adventure from your girl Emma! Today I'm back in my favourite city on the planet – New York City! I just can't get enough of this vibrant, pulsating metropolis. It’s like stepping into a fairytale but with an extra dose of sparkly glitz and glamour. And this week I’ve been taking in the city at full speed, like a whirlwind of pinks, tutus, and amazing shows.

Pink Paradise in The City That Never Sleeps

Since I last wrote, I’ve been in full pink power mode exploring this dazzling city! Let me tell you, it’s been a blast, with enough pink to fill even the biggest tutu and enough glitz to make even a glitter bomb blush! My darling Mum packed my suitcase with my latest pink creation - a blush-pink tutu that simply screams "New York" and my brand new sparkly pink trainers. It’s the perfect combo for traversing the concrete jungle in style!

Ballet Fever Takes Over The Big Apple

This trip, I’ve had my fair share of ballet bliss, and let me tell you, I’ve been completely swept away by the magical energy of the New York ballet scene.

  • The Choreography of Shopping - Who knew that a shopping spree could be so perfectly choreographed? I was at the Barney’s flagship store and oh my goodness, it felt like a grand finale. A fabulous fashion extravaganza, from the shimmering fabrics to the beautiful sales assistants. Every single detail is simply breathtaking!

  • Street Performers with a Twist - I caught a brilliant busking act on 5th avenue! The dancers were stunning, they had amazing control and poise. Their ballet skills were outstanding and I just stood there enthralled for ages. It's a shame the MTA doesn't allow dancing in the subway, you just never know when you might stumble upon some true hidden talents!

  • * Broadway - a Night of Splendour* - Let's be honest, I went to see a fabulous show - 'The Phantom of the Opera.' I’d be lying if I didn't say it sent shivers down my spine! The production was a visual feast, with stunning costumes and impressive sets, it was pure theatrical magic!

Adventures in the Underground

Of course, what's a trip to New York without a ride on the legendary MTA - the New York City Subway system? And no worries, I definitely haven't left my signature tutu behind, even in this fast-paced city! The Underground in New York City has its own special magic – it's a hidden world filled with quirky characters and unexpected performances. Every trip on the metro is an adventure, whether it's a thrilling dash to a new show or a leisurely journey from Brooklyn to the Upper East Side.

I especially love watching the people of New York rushing past, the energetic hustle and bustle! It reminds me of how different life is here. There's an undeniable energy, an exciting vibrancy in the air that really captivates. I feel so alive when I’m surrounded by the city that never sleeps.

Fashion Fever in New York City

I had a lovely afternoon wandering through Chelsea Market. I just adore all the tiny artisan food and craft stalls. It really showcases the creativity and energy of New York’s residents. Plus I have a secret passion for vintage clothing shops, and oh my goodness you guys are going to be amazed when you see what treasures I've picked up - I’m not giving any spoilers yet, but trust me, they’ll definitely make you smile!

But you know I just couldn’t leave without getting some fresh NYC fashion! There are so many fabulous department stores and independent boutiques in the city – each one with their own individual character. A real visual feast! I'm definitely not leaving the Big Apple without some fabulous new finds, trust me on that.

What’s Next For Pink Tutu?

The weekend is here! That means more exploration of the city that never sleeps, and of course, more dancing! I’m still dreaming of all the ballet shows I’m going to catch – my schedule is filled to the brim. From street dance performances in Times Square to catching a world-class performance at Lincoln Centre, it’s going to be a fantastic weekend! It's my passion to experience and embrace all aspects of the dance scene - from street ballet and contemporary, to classical and broadway productions, it’s all just magical!

**Wearing a pink tutu, spreading the joy of ballet and reminding everyone that the world could use a bit more pink! Stay tuned for my next post - full of photos, fashion tips, and even more dancing adventures.

Until next time, stay fabulous my darlings!**

Emma’s Diary - Monday June 23rd 1997 - New York City

Today has been all about soaking in the culture of this incredible city. My mum picked up the most divine bakery goods from a cute cafe tucked away near our hotel. We shared a giant cinnamon roll, it was amazing, you have to try one if you ever come to New York. They have amazing coffee too!

My Mum and I wandered through Central Park, where the sun is shining brightly through the trees. It’s so tranquil and feels like we’ve been transported to a completely different world. Then we went shopping for the day, it was truly fabulous, my feet are aching a bit now!

It’s funny I remember being a little nervous to explore the big city for the first time – New York City can seem a little overwhelming. I must admit my nerves really kicked in on my very first journey down to Times Square, I just didn’t know what to expect, but actually, the most wonderful thing about it was that every person just seems to be in their own world, their own story. It makes me want to embrace the uniqueness of the experience of every person in this bustling city.

So today has been about slowing down, taking in the incredible city, and taking some well-deserved time to chill out. After a lovely walk back through the brightly-lit streets I am heading to my hotel to change and catch the ‘Phantom of the Opera’ show - I cannot wait!

I am feeling extremely grateful for this whole trip – New York City is such a magic place! I love feeling inspired by all that New York offers. This city, like dance, has endless energy and movement! It’s all around you. From the bustling streets and yellow cabs to the dancing lights of Broadway and of course, the glorious ballet that shines on the world stage!

So it's time to go and get ready for tonight, I'm really excited for a show-stopping experience - the costumes are going to be gorgeous, I’m planning to have a great time. Until next time...
