Pink Tutu Blog: New York City - Post #108 - A Whirlwind of Pink in the Big Apple

Hello lovelies!

Itā€™s Monday, and that means another fabulous edition of the Pink Tutu Blog is here, ready to whisk you away to a whirlwind of New York City excitement! This week, we're dipping our toes into a world of dancing, shopping, and all things pink, of course!

You know I love my little jaunts around the world, but there's just something magical about New York. Itā€™s got this incredible buzz and energy, which gets my inner ballerina twirling with excitement. And to be honest, thereā€™s nothing quite like a good old fashioned New York City subway ride, tutus swishing through the air!

This week was a little different as I embraced the excitement of an early June day. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and the city was abuzz. It was the kind of day that made me want to twirl down Broadway in my newest pink tulle skirt, even if I was headed to a ballet class at the School of American Ballet.

Now, let's dive straight into all the things that made this week in New York absolutely fabulous.

Tutu-tiful

Let's be real, you can never have too much pink tulle in your life! I popped by a couple of the famous New York department stores - Bloomingdale's and Saks Fifth Avenue - and what do you know, they had a stunning collection of ballet-inspired outfits that were simply begging to be danced in.

I treated myself to a gorgeous, silk tutu-style skirt, which, by the way, can totally double up as a skirt, so practical! I also found a delicate pink chiffon scarf with iridescent sequins and a gorgeous satin, hot pink handbag for an evening out - talk about adding a touch of glam!

The Grand Finale

After some delightful shopping, I made my way to Lincoln Center for the performance of a lifetime - "The Sleeping Beauty" by the New York City Ballet. It was the absolute best!

I can still feel the tingles up my spine as the curtain rose, the orchestra burst into a stunning melody, and the dancers floated across the stage, all perfectly synchronized. Their talent was out of this world!

Now, a few little highlights:

  • The Choreography: Simply magical! The delicate movements, the captivating leaps and jumps - each pirouette was breathtaking. You can see how many hours of practice they poured into it.

  • The Costumes: A spectacular display of pink, lilac and the most beautiful floral detailing. And then there were the jewels and sparkling accessoriesā€¦ pure glamour.

  • The Set Design: A beautifully whimsical world painted onto a massive stage! This Sleeping Beauty's fairy tale was simply mesmerizing!

My head was buzzing for days with the magical dance moves.

The Magic of Ballet

While Iā€™m not exactly a ballet aficionado, this particular performance reignited my love for all things classical, and of course, pink! Ballet in New York truly was a magnificent experience.

Later, after my own ballet class - always a treat in itself - I walked down Fifth Avenue feeling like a fairytale princess.

Talking of Fifth Avenue, how about we take a little break from tutus and take a virtual walk together, and a glimpse of some other fab places we discovered!

Pinkalicious Shopping!

Our journey took us through some of the city's most vibrant neighbourhoods. First stop? The Meatpacking District. And oh, did it deliver on its name! There was a charming little store I just had to go in and discover all sorts of pink things! I got this really fabulous pink leather jacket - it's going to be perfect for my autumn trip to Paris. Just a little treat for myself!

Then there was SoHo. It felt like every boutique on this charming street was filled with the latest in fashion and chic, independent designers - you know I adore a little bit of individuality. I actually picked up some pretty amazing handcrafted earrings there. I am still kicking myself for not buying a pair of super cute pink boots that had this amazing sparkle. The girl I saw wearing them was looking absolutely sensational, a little bit sassy, but totally gorgeous.

And of course, no trip to New York is complete without a visit to Tiffany & Co on Fifth Avenue. The diamond necklace display at Tiffany & Co. really was like a princessā€™s dream - and you know I have always dreamt of my very own ā€œTiffanyā€ blue box! But this week was about spending on something a little moreā€¦ wearable.

### Feeling Pink & Perfect!

By the time I made my way back to my hotel that night, I was feeling pink, happy and thoroughly inspired. I was also a little exhausted! I couldnā€™t quite believe how much ground we had covered, and how many new experiences we'd soaked up. A whole day filled with a dose of ballet, retail therapy and a dose of that special New York magic, with all of it beautifully bound together by the thread of pink. What more could a girl want?!

You know I canā€™t get enough of this magical city, especially on a day like this, when the city's buzzing with the energy of the moment!

It's A Pink World Out There

Of course, our week wasnā€™t all about the bigger name shops - we spent time in the little independent boutiques in Chelsea, Brooklyn Heights, and even took a wander through Central Park. Weā€™d stop for a drink and a slice of apple pie at one of the cozy cafes, and watch the world go by - people dancing, artists painting, couples holding hands - it was all so beautifully New York.

A real reminder that thereā€™s so much to discover in this exciting city, whatever your budget or style. So even if you arenā€™t looking to break the bank on your shopping trip, remember to keep those eyes open, take a minute to wander, you never know what little gems youā€™ll find!

From Derbyshire with Love

Even after all these adventures, my love for Derbyshire never fades. The picturesque hills and rolling countryside of my home in the heart of England is still where I find peace and relaxation, and always inspires me, especially as a ballerina!

Of course, being so far from home, you can always count on a lovely cuppa and a warm slice of Derbyshire-made Victoria sponge to remind me of home when the city's energy starts to overwhelm.

This week was a real pink dream come true. My passion for dance and fashion is burning brighter than ever!

Have a fabulous week lovelies, and I will be back next Monday with more pink tulle magic and some delightful discoveries in this glorious, glittering city of New York!
