Pink Tutu Blog NYC #122: Dancing in the City that Never Sleeps 🩰✨

Hello lovelies! It's Emma here, back from another whirlwind week in the dazzling city that never sleeps. It feels like a dream, but this time it's real! I’m in New York City, the epicentre of fashion and glamour, and, as you all know, this girl can't resist a touch of both.

This week, I'm absolutely buzzing. You see, I landed a coveted spot in the American Ballet Theatre's annual fundraiser gala! Yes, darling, this little ballerina was strutting her stuff alongside some of the world's most renowned dancers. Wearing my favourite shade of pink, of course - can you imagine? And yes, I danced in a tutu. What else? 🤫

Now, you'd think after all that twirling, I'd want to rest my weary legs, but you can’t keep a girl like me down, especially in a city brimming with creativity. My toes tapped their way down Broadway after the show, heading for the Empire State Building. Now, I don't know about you lovelies, but I think there's something incredibly romantic about seeing the city lights twinkle like a million tiny stars. It made me think of all the twinkling lights on the stage at the theatre, the kind you get when all the dancers are lined up and bowing… pure magic! ✨

But no matter how much we love New York, a bit of down-to-earth shopping never hurt anyone, so I whizzed on the metro - yes, I love the subway! – to the shopping destination of the century, Fifth Avenue. There's a delightful shop on the corner, just opposite the famous Tiffany’s window display, with the most divine pinks and lilacs you can imagine – a perfect shade for my new ballerina dress, which I shall reveal in next week's blog! (Let’s just say, gorgeous does not do it justice.)

Now, don't get me wrong, there's nothing I love more than getting glammed up, but I'm also a huge fan of all things vintage and quirky. This week, I discovered the cutest little shop in Greenwich Village. Filled with pre-loved dance shoes and beautiful tutus, some with more glitter than others, it's just begging for me to buy everything! Sadly, my suitcase had already reached maximum capacity, so I only snagged a delicate lace headband adorned with sequins - perfectly pink, of course! 💖

Speaking of lovely things, a fellow pink-loving ballerina sent me the cutest little postcard, recommending I see the 'Moulin Rouge' revival. Of course, I couldn't resist! I have to admit, I got a little choked up during the can-can, the energy in the theatre was incredible!

On Monday, the American Ballet Theatre opened the doors for another season and of course I was front and centre, taking it all in. Seeing these incredibly talented dancers fly through the air, so graceful, so elegant - well, let’s just say my love for ballet was reaffirmed! I was lost in the choreography, captivated by their athleticism. It's just such a beautiful way to tell a story without words, and those costumes... dreamy.

Later that day, a little slice of Broadway was my next destination. You see, my lovelies, the famous Radio City Music Hall is showcasing its spectacular dancing prowess. What’s a girl like me supposed to do, when the Rockette's are kicking their way into your soul?! It's a synonymous with New York glamour, a tradition of dance that continues to enchant and amaze. Those ladies’ synchronized precision is mind-blowing, their outfits… just look at those costumes, and the sparkle, the shimmer! I want a life-size Rockette doll just for the outfit! 👠

You'd think all that activity would exhaust this little ballerina, but alas, you can’t stop this little tutu-wearing wanderer. After an amazing Central Park sunset, the kind that just screams "New York magic", I treated myself to some incredible theatre in Times Square. I managed to snag last-minute tickets to see "Mamma Mia!". Now, while it may not be a ballet, it's still filled with amazing dance moves and even the costumes were a bit sparkly and glittery, so it ticked all my boxes! 🎶

I am not just a ballerina; I'm a girl who is on a quest to bring a touch of pink tutu magic into everyone's lives. And let's be honest, what better place to do it than New York? From the sleek elegance of the Metropolitan Opera to the bold, rebellious spirit of the city's punk rock scene, New York embraced every shade of my own pink tutu spirit.

So what does a girl do when she's spent the whole week twirling, shopping and dancing her way through the city? Why, she picks up the Sunday Times and a giant cup of hot chocolate from my favourite little cafe and heads back to the little corner apartment she's been calling home this week, planning for next week’s adventure in this magical city. The next day I hop back on a plane to England… until next week, New York!
