Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post Number 129 - A Twirling Whirl Through the Big Apple!

Hello lovelies! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet where all things pink and twirly reign supreme! It's Monday, November 24th, 1997, and your favourite Derbyshire ballerina is back with another post, straight from the heart of the Big Apple. New York City, you have me absolutely spellbound.

It feels like only yesterday I was pirouetting across the stage in Derbyshire, and now I'm navigating the bustling streets of Manhattan, my pink tutu fluttering like a joyous flag in the wind. I still pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming!

As you know, I fund my travels by dancing, and it's truly a magical way to experience the world. Each city has its own unique charm, but there's a special energy in New York City that truly gets your blood pumping.

This week has been an absolute whirlwind of sequins, street art, and sassy shops. I can't believe it's only my second week here and already I've seen so much! My tiny diary is overflowing with sketches of incredible architecture, sketches of fantastical costumes, and of course, lots and lots of outfit ideas. I have so many thoughts I can barely contain them!

So, where did my little pink tutu and I get up to this week? Well, I started with a grand performance at the beautiful Metropolitan Opera House on Thursday. I absolutely adore ballet, you all know that, but even this jaded old ballerina (okay, I'm only in my twenties, but I feel very sophisticated when I say "jaded") was swept away by the sheer grandeur of this stunning venue.

I danced the role of a mischievous little fairy, flitting about in a shimmering tulle gown and delicate wings. It was a dream role, and the applause afterwards was simply divine. But you know, darling, I've always said that the real joy of dancing is in the sharing - watching the audience come alive with the music, sharing the thrill of the performance, that's truly where the magic lies!

On Friday, I spent a blissful afternoon in the vibrant West Village searching for vintage treasures to add to my wardrobe. You wouldn't believe the gorgeous shoes I found! There were delicate ruby red pumps that would make a queen swoon and chunky velvet boots with a sassy little flair. You see, I don't just believe in twirling with elegance; I love a bit of attitude too!

Of course, my little pink tutu wouldn't be caught dead without some dazzling accessories! I found the most incredible feather boa in a beautiful teal colour, and a silver headband with sparkly leaves that would have even Queen Elizabeth envious! (Although I'm sure she's already quite accustomed to sparkly things, being the Queen and all).

And as if that weren't enough excitement for one day, I finally managed to snag a table at Serendipity 3 for a most delicious supper! Now, if you know anything about this charming restaurant, you know it's famous for its iconic "Frrrozen Hot Chocolate," and trust me, darling, it was every bit as divine as the rumour mill claims! I took my hot chocolate in my sparkly tutu and tiny top hat, and naturally, I caused a bit of a stir.

I think they just about stopped serving when I left! A little bit of pink tutu chaos is good for the soul, you know?

Oh, and let's not forget the incredible* Ballet Workshop* I attended on Saturday! It was a truly inspiring session with a teacher who radiated as much joy as a box full of pink ballerina tutus! He encouraged us to move with such grace and freedom; it was an exhilarating experience!

Now, I'm sure you're wondering what exciting adventure awaits me today, my lovelies! Well, this week, I'm indulging in a bit of high art with a trip to MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art)!! It's an absolute institution for art lovers and I simply cannot wait to be inspired by the masterpieces that grace its halls.

I have this funny feeling I'll be inspired to design some funky pink tutus from all the vibrant artwork. The vibrant colours, the expressive lines, and the captivating imagery will surely fuel my artistic flame! I just know I'll have a flood of ideas once I've witnessed the creative power within the museum walls!

And then, to round off my perfect week, I'll be back at the Metropolitan Opera House to perform with the incredible American Ballet Theatre on Wednesday night. There's no better way to end a week than to share the magic of dance with an appreciative audience, isn't there?

So, my darlings, I hope this week's adventures have brought a sprinkle of joy to your day! Remember, every day is a chance to embrace your inner pink tutu girl and twirl your way through life with a little bit of magic!

Don't forget to check in with me next Monday for a fresh dose of all things pink and glamorous, and let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

With a flurry of sequins and a sprinkle of pink tutu dust,

Your favourite Derbyshire ballerina, Emma x
