Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Post #133: New York, New York! ๐ฉฐโจ
Hello, my darling tutu-wearers! Emma here, reporting live from the bustling, beautiful, Big Apple - New York City! ๐๐ฝ As you know, my tutu and I love to explore new corners of the world, and this week we're twirling through the streets of Manhattan. This is my 133rd post, and I can't believe it's December already! The year has flown by in a flurry of pink tutus and fabulous ballet performances.
A Dream Come True
This trip has been a dream come true. New York City is every bit as glamorous as I imagined it to be. The lights, the energy, the constant movement... it's intoxicating! I arrived on Friday and haven't stopped exploring since. Of course, the first stop was a little shopping therapy. I picked up the most divine sequined handbag - pink, naturally - to complement my ever-growing collection of tutus. I'm telling you, shopping in New York City is a whole new level of experience! It's like a delicious candy shop for the senses!
Ballet, Ballet Everywhere!
Now, no trip to New York is complete without experiencing the magic of ballet. I snagged tickets to a show at the New York City Ballet - their Christmas performance was absolutely breathtaking! The dancers were incredible, the costumes were exquisite, and the stage set design... simply divine! It left me utterly mesmerized. The joy on the faces of the children in the audience was truly heartwarming.
You know how much I love my ballet classes back in Derbyshire. Well, let me tell you, the ballet studios here are next level! I found this amazing studio tucked away in a charming little cobblestone street in Greenwich Village. The instructor was brilliant and pushed me to be my best. They have the most adorable little tutus on display, in every shade of pink imaginable, and I almost snagged one for myself. Almost! ๐คซ
Tutuing Through Times Square
I couldn't resist a quick photo shoot in Times Square, my trusty pink tutu in tow. I must say, I'm pretty certain that a tutu looks equally as fabulous against a backdrop of flashing billboards and towering skyscrapers as it does under the chandelier in my local theatre!
The thing about New York, you never quite know what to expect around every corner. I've encountered street performers dressed as everything from superheroes to colourful clowns, all in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Midtown. And guess what? They're all so talented!
Speaking of hustle and bustle, I've also had a whirlwind tour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The collection is absolutely staggering, from ancient Egyptian artifacts to modern masterpieces. My favorite piece? A stunning pink flamingo sculpture in the American Wing. I couldn't resist a little twirl next to it. Because who doesn't love a flamingo in a tutu? ๐
The Magic of the Metro
To get around this incredible city, I've been riding the subway โ the "metro", as we Brits call it! It's a bit of a sensory overload at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's a fantastic way to get from A to B. It's full of colourful characters and a real cross-section of New York life. Don't get me started on the amazing street art!
The Gift of Christmas
It wouldn't be a proper Christmas trip without indulging in some festive cheer. This weekend, I went ice skating in Rockefeller Center. It was absolutely magical! I managed to stay upright (mostly) and even attempted a few graceful spins. The tree is a spectacle of lights, decorations, and a sheer, unadulterated joy for everyone. It reminded me of all the Christmases back in Derbyshire when my family used to gather around the fire.
Now, I know what you're thinking: "Emma, how do you afford all of these incredible adventures?" Well, let's just say that my love for ballet isn't just about passion, it's also a very practical thing. I'm very fortunate to be able to fund my travels with performances at various local theaters and charity events. It's not always easy, but it allows me to live out my dreams while sharing the joy of dance with others.
And Now, Back to Reality
And as much as I adore this dazzling city, I'll soon be heading back to the green rolling hills of Derbyshire. I can't wait to catch up with all my lovely readers and share my New York adventures. But before I go, I want to ask you a question:
What is your ultimate dream travel destination?
