Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #139 – A Fairy Tale in the Big Apple!

Monday, February 2nd, 1998

Good morning, my darlings! The city that never sleeps is just waking up to the soft, pale blush of dawn, and so am I. And guess what? It's time for another NYC adventure!

As you know, this little Pink Tutu has been dancing her way across the globe, spreading a little bit of pink joy wherever I go. And this week, the stage is set for the Big Apple, where dreams really do come true (especially for a ballerina with a penchant for tutus and a love of all things fabulous).

Last night, I stepped out of my hotel (which is just the most charming boutique spot in SoHo - all exposed brick and a delightful fragrance of jasmine) in my new favourite pink tutu, the one with the sequinned butterflies that flutter with every pirouette. Honestly, it was a dream to twirl in! I'd picked it up at the most adorable vintage store just down the street - they had an entire rack dedicated to pink tutus, it was pure ballet heaven! I am so ridiculously happy with it.

Then it was off to the Metropolitan Opera House for a performance of "Swan Lake". You wouldn't believe the magnificent costumes! I could practically feel the shimmering fabrics and the breathtaking grace of the dancers even from my seat in the upper balcony. (Let's face it, opera houses and the ballet - those ticket prices are quite daunting, especially for a girl whose only income comes from her dance performances!).

Afterwards, the whole city glittered like a thousand fairy lights. We decided to walk back to SoHo. Walking home under the city lights with a friend, laughing over a cup of coffee (yes, we both adore it, black coffee, a most sophisticated drink) I really felt like I was in a fairy tale. It truly was magical!

New York - a city of dreams!

I love the energy of this place, it’s just electric! You walk down the street and you can feel it in your very being. Even just walking past the Broadway marquees makes you feel like anything is possible, doesn't it? My goodness, what would happen if a Pink Tutu just turned up on Broadway - I can just see the look on their faces as I started to pirouette under the neon signs! It would be glorious!

The best thing about New York, is you can pretty much dress how you want and people just look away - it is amazing! In the heart of the city, fashion is your oyster - vintage shops bursting with sparkle, towering department stores showcasing the latest creations - oh, to dream of spending my fortune here! I couldn't help but pick up a little something to remind myself of my time here (a silk pink scarf – absolutely beautiful and perfect for twirling).

I know it may seem strange, but for a girl who lives in tutus, New York is the most welcoming and glamorous city on the planet. I don't think anyone bats an eyelid, maybe they all think it's normal, or maybe they just assume it is part of some crazy avant garde performance art.

Pink is the New Black (well, I say that, because black always has its place - and I wear a lot of black!)

Here in New York, I feel like the pink tutu truly takes centre stage, I stand out in this wonderful place, which is exactly how I like it! This isn't about blending in, it's about celebrating being a ballerina, a woman who isn't afraid to make a statement.

I dream of spreading pink tutu joy!

Why do I think everyone needs to experience the joy of wearing a pink tutu? The truth is, we're all secretly yearning to feel that magic - that pure delight of expressing ourselves with flair and grace. Wearing a pink tutu doesn't mean you have to dance (though let's face it, you'll want to). It means you’re embracing your inner sparkle, it’s about adding a splash of happiness to your life and bringing a bit of fairytale magic to the ordinary!

Fashion is the Art of Feeling Wonderful

I do love fashion! (especially if you incorporate a lot of pink) Clothes, for me, are a canvas. They allow me to express who I am and where I’ve been. But there's more to it than just that. It's the way they make you feel. Confident, stylish, whimsical, even! But sometimes, we need to be reminded that wearing a tutu, like every element of our life, is all about self-expression and choosing to be a little bit magical, every single day!

You may find me in a ballet class somewhere in New York later, I just can't resist it! But be sure to tune in next Monday, same time, same place - I will be updating you on my escapades. It is a tutu-ful kind of world and I will show you how!

Until then, happy twirling, my loves!
