Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #155 - Dancing in the Big Apple

Hello darlings! It’s Emma, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing ballerina, and I’m so thrilled to be writing to you from the glorious, dazzling, inspiring city of New York! Yes, that's right, I've finally made it to the Big Apple, and I am absolutely smitten. This trip, just like all my adventures, has been a whirlwind of ballet, fashion, and, of course, tutus! This post marks a very special milestone too – I've finally reached 155 blog posts, so cheers to that!

So, buckle up, lovelies, because this week's blog is jam-packed with adventures. From ballet performances that took my breath away to fashion finds that made my heart sing, this post has everything you could ever need to be inspired.

A City that Never Sleeps, Just Like Me

I arrived in NYC feeling like I'd stepped into a technicolour dream. Everything is bigger, bolder, brighter… and dare I say it, even more pink than usual! There’s an undeniable energy in the air that's infectious – from the hustle and bustle of Times Square to the quiet beauty of Central Park, it's a city that captures your heart and holds it close.

Ballet, Ballet, and More Ballet!

Of course, no trip to New York City is complete without indulging in its amazing ballet scene. This week I saw "Giselle" at the Metropolitan Opera, and I still haven’t quite recovered from the sheer beauty and elegance of the dancers. I felt the thrill of seeing all the beautiful ballerinas grace the stage with such incredible strength and artistry – it's simply inspiring.

The costumes were just as captivating, and my eye was caught by a magnificent tutu made entirely from shimmering silk, adorned with delicate rose motifs – you know me and my love for a pretty tutu, don't you? It reminded me of the tutu I wore for my performance in "Swan Lake" back in Derbyshire – memories!

A Dash of Fashion

New York City is a fashionista's paradise! After a much-needed post-ballet coffee and pastry (it's essential for replenishing those ballet energy reserves, don’t you think?), I headed to the vibrant boutiques of Soho.

And of course, I couldn’t resist a little shopping therapy. I snagged the cutest pink and black ballet-inspired tote bag for carrying all my essentials, and let's just say that the "pink flamingo" patterned scarf was simply begging to come home with me!

Subway Chic: My Fashion Statement

It wouldn’t be a Pink Tutu Blog without a mention of how fabulous it is to travel in the New York Metro! This amazing, sprawling network of tunnels and platforms truly connects the city. I can't help but notice all the style in action - and let me tell you, my fellow New Yorkers certainly know how to put together a statement look! I have a thing for classic chic. My style motto this trip: "Ballet shoes with a touch of vintage flair, and of course, my beloved pink tutu. Who doesn’t love a touch of sparkle?"

A Touch of History

No trip to New York City would be complete without soaking up some of the amazing history this place has to offer! I spent an afternoon wandering through Central Park, marveling at the natural beauty amidst the city’s concrete jungle.

It was simply magical – the perfect respite from the fast-paced energy of the city, reminding me to take a moment to breathe and appreciate all that is around me. The park felt serene, the scent of freshly cut grass carried through the air.

The following day, I found myself mesmerized by the grand, old buildings of Greenwich Village – it’s like stepping back in time. I couldn't help but imagine the poets, writers, and musicians who once walked those streets. It was incredibly inspiring, and it truly highlighted just how much artistry this city holds, from its ballet halls to its charming corners.

Taking In the Theatre

No trip to NYC is complete without catching a Broadway show. My love of ballet extends to theater as well. Tonight's the night, darlings, so stay tuned to my Instagram stories as I capture the magic from behind the scenes, hopefully before the performance starts!

You may be wondering how I fund all these adventures, well I'll let you into a little secret. All those amazing ballet performances I mentioned are paid for by, you guessed it, performing! I simply cannot get enough of dancing and the energy of sharing the magic with others through movement. It is my favourite way to experience the world!

Pink Tutus Are Spreading

The amazing thing about visiting New York City is that every street feels like a catwalk. I was even lucky enough to bump into a few other tutu-wearers! (This might have involved me introducing them to their very first pink tutu!). Let’s spread the joy and confidence! I mean, when else can you embrace all things pink and sparkly with a little ballet spin?

Now I’ve got a challenge for all of you – don’t just wear a pink tutu for special occasions, wear it for the supermarket trip! wear it on a rainy Tuesday morning! Wear it every day, and see what joy you can bring to people!

The Takeaway

As I finish writing this, I’m soaking up the sights and sounds of NYC. I'm sitting at a charming cafe enjoying a cup of coffee and a delicious cookie. The pink sunset casts a magical glow over the city and I'm so incredibly happy, a touch of nostalgia in my heart, thinking about all the places this blog will lead me to next, both new and old.

But for now, darlings, it's time to bid you farewell.

Until next Monday!

Your eternally optimistic and pink-loving ballerina,

Emma.

*PS: * My website is now www.pink-tutu.com and make sure you follow me on Instagram @EmmaPinkTutu, for behind-the-scenes snapshots and my favourite dance moments! And don’t forget, I’ll be on a live on Instagram with more highlights from NYC this week! See you all there!

Post-script: Emma is actually from Derbyshire in England and, whilst she’s passionate about travel, she also loves to be back home! She hopes that her blog inspires people to travel, wear tutus and be bold and bright. But as much as she loves NYC, Emma enjoys a walk with her dog, Bailey, at sunrise. As the sun catches the dewdrops on the blades of grass in her meadow and the birds start to sing, Emma finds solace, creativity, inspiration and happiness, always reminding herself to look around her to find the beauty in every moment.
