Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #157 - Tutu-ing Through the Big Apple!

Monday, June 8th, 1998

Hello, darling dears!

Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-clad ballerina, ready to whisk you away to the magical, vibrant, and oh-so-tutu-tastic world of New York City!

It's been a whirlwind week in the Big Apple, and my diary is positively bursting with sartorial delights, ballet brilliance, and, of course, an abundance of pink!

A New York State of Mind: Tutus and The City That Never Sleeps

Stepping off the Metro into the pulsating heart of New York always fills me with a giddy sense of adventure. This city, with its soaring skyscrapers, honking taxis, and the energy that simply vibrates through every inch of its concrete jungle, is a dream come true for a tutu-loving lass like me.

I was lucky enough to grab a fabulously discounted ticket to a performance at the legendary New York City Ballet. I slipped into a custom-made, shimmering pink tutu with a cascade of hand-sewn pink satin ribbons that just begged to twirl under the dazzling stage lights. The performance itself was an exquisite journey, filled with breathtaking choreography, impossibly graceful leaps, and the emotional depths that only ballet can evoke. I was mesmerised!

A Tutu-tiful Shopping Spree: Midtown Magic

No visit to New York is complete without a dose of retail therapy! My first stop was the Bergdorf Goodman department store on Fifth Avenue, a true palace of fashion. You could say I was in a bit of a tutu-tastic daze amongst all the beautiful clothes, but I emerged victorious with a dazzling, sparkly, fuchsia handbag, perfectly paired with my pink tutu and outfit.

Then, I took a jaunt down to SoHo, the bohemian heart of Manhattan, to explore the charming independent boutiques. My inner tutu-loving shopaholic went wild at a vintage clothing store filled with dreamy, dreamy 1950s dresses, petticoats, and colourful lace. You can bet I found the perfect pink ruffled shirt for my next performance.

Theatrical Thrills and Tutu-Inspired Cocktails:

I couldn't leave New York without seeing a Broadway show. "Cats" was playing, and I absolutely adored it. I think I might even have spotted a cat in a tiny pink tutu in the audience! After the show, I popped into a cool bar called "The Pink Flamingo", and I'm convinced they created their "Pink Tutu Martini" with me in mind.

The Metro, My Tutu-tastic Transport: An Under-Ground Symphony

Of course, I couldn't journey around New York City without experiencing the magic of the Metro. It's a constant buzz of activity, an under-ground symphony of human life. It's funny, even on the most crowded trains, I always manage to attract attention with my pink tutu. I swear, everyone is looking at me and saying, “Now there’s a stylish traveler!”

Sharing The Tutu-love: Inspiring a City to Twirl

The week here in New York has been absolutely enchanting. The people are amazing, the energy is electric, and the fashion is fabulous! I’ve even seen a few ladies rocking tutus around the city – my mission is certainly working.

And what is my mission, you ask? Well, it’s quite simple really: to spread the joy and magic of the tutu to everyone, everywhere! Why settle for ordinary clothes when you can twirl and twirl your heart out in a fabulous, fun, and absolutely fabulous pink tutu?

Stay tuned for next week's post, where I'll be sharing more of my NYC adventures, including a super exciting ballet class I'm taking with some local dancers!

Until next Monday, dear readers, keep those tutus twirling!

Love,

Emma xx
