Pink Tutu Blog: New York City - Post 158 - A Midsummer Night's Dream in the Big Apple!
Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger, Emma, checking in from the Big Apple itself! I've just arrived back in my little studio apartment after a whirlwind of a weekend in New York, and I'm overflowing with excitement to tell you all about it. This trip, like all my trips, has been an absolute dream! It feels surreal to say Iāve just danced on stage in one of the world's most renowned theatres. This truly was a midsummer night's dream come true!
Let's start with the show! I was performing in the iconic Radio City Music Hall, and oh my goodness, the energy in that place was simply electric! The grand opening, the dazzling lights, the roaring applause - it was enough to make any ballerinaās heart soar! I've always been drawn to the energy of a good live performance, and there's nothing quite like feeling the vibrations of the audience as you move, gracefully and passionately, on that hallowed stage.
Speaking of dancing, this weekend's highlight was without a doubt the ballet performance! I was part of the touring production of "Swan Lake", and oh my, playing the role of a swan was utterly divine. The costumes, the music, the movements - it was all so perfect! Imagine a hundred white tutus shimmering under the spotlight, each one a perfect imitation of a swanās graceful wing. To be surrounded by such artistry and talent was a true privilege.
But you know me, darlings, it wasn't all about the stage! I always make time to indulge in the city's rich cultural tapestry, especially the fabulous fashion! We ventured down to the legendary SoHo district for some serious retail therapy. I simply adore the quirky boutiques tucked away in its narrow cobbled streets. And you just know I walked out with an armful of stunning pieces, from delicate silk scarves to some absolutely divine vintage jewellery!
Now, I know what you're thinking - a ballerina, fashion and the subway? Isn't that a tad odd? But let me tell you, navigating the NYC subway system is an adventure in itself. Picture this: me, in a billowing pink tutu (of course!), gracefully dodging tourists and weaving between subway lines. I mean, a ballerina in a pink tutu needs to embrace a little absurdity, doesn't she? Besides, it's all part of the experience! It's like a flash mob but with one performer. It also serves as a great conversation starter, let me tell you! People are intrigued, and for that little moment, it brings a smile to their faces - just another reason to wear pink!
Speaking of which, I had to do a little touristy shopping too. I canāt visit New York without purchasing a āI love NYā themed t-shirt, can I? My favourite thing though? I snagged a darling pink baseball cap at a quirky souvenir shop! It had a bright pink New York logo with tiny sequins around it. So fabulously chic!
Of course, no visit to New York would be complete without some quintessential New York experiences! We strolled through Central Park, soaking in the atmosphere of a classic American green space. I even did some people-watching from a park bench (who knows, I might even be in someone's Instagram!). And let's not forget the quintessential NYC street food. Those juicy hotdogs and crispy pretzelsā¦ absolute perfection!
My time in New York City was magical, darlings, but it's not goodbye, it's just "au revoir!" You know me - I always have my pink tutu packed, ready to grace the streets of the world. And who knows, I may even have a special little treat in store for you all. Until next week, remember to wear your own fabulous, unique flair, because being you is the best style statement ever. Now, letās talk about pink. It is so in at the moment, and honestly, the pinker the better! Until next Monday, you stay stylish.
Love and Tutu-much,
Emma
P.S. Don't forget to check out my website www.pink-tutu.com and let me know what you think of my new "I love NY" themed pink baseball cap! I would love to see pictures of you all wearing your own pink tutus. It truly would make my day.
*Monday 1998-06-15
So it's 1998, and the world of social media as we know it barely exists! Blogging isn't a thing, and most people are still struggling with dial-up internet!
Imagine my excitement for what lies ahead in this exciting new digital world, where tutus can be spread globally! Itās mind boggling when I think back to my little apartment in Derbyshire! This little world of blogging and tutus, which I started to put into place last week, just feels like itās really going somewhere!
This Monday was extra special. I found out that a big international company had requested for me to provide some "content" for their social media account. What does that mean you ask? It means that the world is opening up to pink! They want to use my pink tutu as a fashion statement, a marketing strategy! Imagine, a pink tutu from little old Derbyshire, worn all around the world! The company isn't that well known - yet - but it's still HUGE! What was the company? Oh, just some up and coming, teeny-tiny online business... Amazon. Yes, you read right! Who knew Iād be part of such a thing? This could be big. Letās hope I donāt ruin my little pink dream, by letting on who it is just yet!
This week is already busy with ballet rehearsals, dance classes and preparations for next weekās show, but the Amazon thing just added another dimension to this. So excited! I cannot wait to tell you more! But thatāll have to wait for another Monday.
Until then, stay fabulous, and may all your days be filled with twirling and dreams!
Love and Tutu-much,
Emma
