Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #172 - The Big Apple Bows Down (to Pink!)

Hello, darlings! It's Monday again, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Blog NYC post, straight from the concrete jungle where dreams (and sequins!) are made! This week I'm feeling especially giddy because my last few days in New York have been a total whirlwind of tutus, Broadway, and all things pink. Buckle up, babes, it's a bumpy ride!

New York, New York, I Can't Resist You

As I touched down at JFK, the air was electric. Even before I stepped onto the yellow cab that whisked me straight to my Midtown Manhattan hotel, I could feel the energy radiating off the city's vibrant streets. It was like a ballet performance waiting to happen, with every car horn and pedestrian rush adding its own little flourish to the city's soundtrack.

And let me tell you, after my jam-packed weekend, that soundtrack definitely became my soundtrack. But before I bore you with every delicious detail (you'll just have to wait until my next post for those!), I need to tell you about the incredible show that kicked off my New York adventure: Swan Lake at Lincoln Center!

Swan Lake in the City that Never Sleeps

The Lincoln Center, a glorious expanse of modern architecture, is a perfect setting for a ballet performance, and I felt like a real NYC ballerina as I waltzed into the theater. I may have just been wearing a (rather fabulous!) pink tulle dress instead of a classic ballerina costume, but that didn't stop me from getting swept up in the magic of Tchaikovsky's iconic score and the sheer elegance of the New York City Ballet company. It's hard to believe this iconic ballet company began just around the corner in Brooklyn back in 1948.

The story of Swan Lake, with its intertwined themes of love, betrayal, and sacrifice, unfolded on stage in all its breathtaking glory. Watching those swans pirouette and leap in perfect synchronization was pure joy. But the best part of all? The pink accents in the swans’ costumes. I swear I spotted a whole section of pink tulle and sequins in Act II – it was practically made for my #PinkTutuBlogNYC wardrobe!

Ballet Class on Broadway

You wouldn’t think finding a great ballet studio on Broadway would be easy, but you know me. Nothing is impossible when you're a pink tutu wearing ballerina! After an afternoon of browsing the stunning department stores in Midtown, I decided it was time to stretch those ballet muscles and booked a beginner class at the world-renowned Broadway Dance Center.

With its signature bright pink walls, the studio was pure ballerinalicious heaven! I found myself sweating and twirling with fellow dance enthusiasts from all walks of life – lawyers in sequins, stay-at-home mums in tutus, even a couple of actors who’d clearly seen a few Swan Lake performances in their time! There was no judgment, only smiles and a shared love of dance, which is something I’m truly grateful for.

The teacher was incredible too, a real New York legend named Mrs. Parker who’d been teaching ballet for decades. She's a living embodiment of that fierce energy New Yorkers are known for! She even had me try out a couple of pointe shoes - don't get me wrong, those things are HARD! But even a few steps in them made me feel like a real ballerina, a real New York ballerina.

A New York Fashionista Finds her Groove

After class, I went back to my hotel, freshened up, and headed out for a night on the town. There’s simply no better way to spend a New York night than exploring the glittering shops and bustling restaurants of the Upper East Side.

My fashion-forward heart was skipping a beat as I waltzed past the most exquisite designer boutiques, soaking in all the luxurious trends and imagining how I could incorporate them into my Pink Tutu style.

I ended the night by catching a performance of the smash-hit musical Chicago. What a whirlwind! A sassy story, an amazing soundtrack, and outfits that could give any pink tutu a run for its money. Let's just say that New York City certainly knows how to entertain!

Onwards and Upwards (and in Pink, of course!)
