Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #173 - A Tutu-tastic Trip to the Big Apple! 🩰🍎

Hello lovelies! πŸ’– It's Emma here, and welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where tutus reign supreme and pink is the only colour that matters. This week, I'm whisking you away to the vibrant, energetic heart of New York City, a place where dreams are made of and where even the pigeons strut their stuff in style!

It's Monday 28th September 1998, and I've been in the Big Apple for just over a week, feeling like a whirlwind of tutus, Broadway shows, and delicious bagels (oh, the bagels!). New York never fails to inspire me, and this time is no different. I'm already scheming my next fashion adventures, making mental notes of the latest trends I've spotted and the hidden gems I've stumbled upon.

But let's rewind a bit and take a trip back to Derbyshire, where my journey began. As you all know, I live and breathe for the stage, and lately, I've been fortunate enough to have landed some fantastic gigs, giving me the perfect excuse to fund my New York adventure. It's a secret I haven't yet divulged on the blog, but I've actually been performing in a charming, family-friendly pantomime at the local theatre. You know how much I adore theatricality and putting on a show, and this production has been such a joyous experience, filled with laughter, sparkly costumes (a pink tutu, naturally!), and enough glitter to cover the whole town! ✨

From Derbyshire to the bright lights of Broadway, the journey was seamless. Nothing beats that thrilling feeling of arriving in a new city, particularly a city as iconic as New York. The energy hits you like a wave, a rush of excitement that pulsates through the streets, the buildings, even the air you breathe! And, of course, I embraced this energy with open arms and an even more open tutu!

My first stop had to be the heart of theatre – Times Square! The dazzling lights, the sheer energy of it all… I'm convinced the city never sleeps! After a spot of people-watching, and admiring all the tourists sporting their best NYC outfits, I knew exactly where I needed to be. You guessed it – my beloved ballet class! 🩰

The studio was tucked away on a quiet side street, a welcome escape from the urban cacophony outside. Stepping inside was like entering another world, one filled with the intoxicating scents of sweat, wooden floor, and pure joy. My fellow students, a vibrant mix of professionals, hobbyists, and aspiring dancers, radiated the same passion that I felt, a shared love for the art of dance.

We stretched, we leaped, we twirled, our bodies moving in perfect harmony with the rhythm of the music. Each pirouette, each arabesque, brought a smile to my face, a sense of exhilaration that I can't describe. Even when my legs felt like jelly and my lungs burned from the exertion, the sheer joy of moving my body, of feeling alive, filled me with a boundless sense of energy.

Of course, after a day of dancing, it was time to fuel up! My search for the perfect New York bagel brought me to a tiny cafΓ© on a side street, overflowing with aromas of coffee, fresh dough, and a touch of that special NYC charm. They piled that bagel so high with cream cheese, lox, and tomato that it was almost a meal in itself! πŸ₯―

No trip to NYC is complete without a Broadway show, so of course, I had to experience the magic firsthand! And what better show to witness than "Cats"? I absolutely loved it! The costumes were fantastic (a pink tutu would have been perfect, though!), the choreography mesmerizing, and the cast unbelievably talented. I spent the entire show enthralled, captivated by the captivating storytelling and vibrant energy on stage. I left the theatre buzzing with excitement, filled with that lingering sense of wonder only a fantastic show can inspire.

Afterward, I couldn't resist taking a stroll through Central Park. As the sun began to set, casting golden hues over the cityscape, the park became a tranquil oasis amidst the urban chaos. I spent the next few hours watching children frolic in the playground, families having picnics, and artists sketching the city skyline. It was a reminder that even in the most concrete jungle, nature still thrives.

Shopping, of course, was another essential activity on my New York itinerary! After a day exploring the city's vibrant art scene, I was drawn to a vintage clothing store that housed a treasure trove of treasures. There, I stumbled upon the most stunning velvet cape in a deep, luxurious emerald green. I simply couldn't resist bringing it home, knowing it would add a touch of old-world glamour to my wardrobe. ✨

The subway was, as always, a part of my everyday New York experience. I love the constant movement, the rhythm of the city thrumming through the tunnels, and the unexpected conversations you strike up with fellow commuters. On this particular journey, I was fortunate enough to meet a local ballet dancer who gave me the insider scoop on all the hottest dance spots in the city. Turns out there's an underground dance scene thriving, with underground performance spaces popping up all over town! I'm already scheming about which secret clubs to explore. πŸ˜‰

Back at my little Airbnb flat, surrounded by my beloved pink tutu, the New York city lights glittering outside my window, I felt a wave of gratitude wash over me. What a week it's been, filled with the exhilaration of dancing, the wonder of Broadway, the warmth of New York hospitality, and, of course, the unbridled joy of living life in my pink tutu! It's times like these that remind me why I travel, why I chase my dreams, and why I wear my tutu with pride!

Until next week, lovelies, stay pink, stay strong, and stay tutu-tastic! πŸ’–
