Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #175 – October 12th, 1998: Twirling Through The Big Apple 🍎

Hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where all things pink and twirling are celebrated! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu-clad traveller, and this week, we're diving into the heart of the Big Apple: New York City! 🗽

Now, let's get this straight: the city that never sleeps is utterly breathtaking. Everywhere you look, there's an incredible story unfolding - whether it's a vibrant street performer, a sleek skyscraper soaring towards the heavens, or a hidden cafe filled with character. I feel like I've walked right into a fairytale, and guess what? I'm the heroine! (Just swap the glass slippers for my beloved pink tutu, obviously 😉).

Speaking of my favourite garment, you wouldn't believe the looks I've been getting on the subway. My latest tutu acquisition - a glorious bubblegum pink number adorned with glittering sequins - has become a local celebrity! (Who needs a tiara when you have a tutu, eh?)

As you know, I've been a performing ballerina for as long as I can remember, but nothing prepares you for the pure, vibrant energy of the NYC ballet scene! I've been fortunate enough to snag some tickets for a performance at the world-renowned Metropolitan Opera House - The Nutcracker, no less! - and I'm completely beside myself with excitement. I can almost hear the delicate strains of Tchaikovsky now, imagine the magic swirling through the air, and picture those exquisite dancers flitting across the stage. 🩰 It’s almost enough to make me want to trade my own little pink tutu for a professional pointe shoe (almost!).

But before the grand event, I have some serious shopping to do. New York is a fashion lover’s dream! Imagine vintage boutiques teeming with exquisite finds, designer labels making me giddy, and a million gorgeous dresses begging to be twirled in! This week, I’m on the hunt for the perfect outfit for my big Nutcracker night. Maybe something glamorous and sophisticated… with just a hint of that classic ballerina style. (You know me, always trying to sneak some pink into every ensemble! 😉).

I'll be sure to update you all with my fashion finds and how the performance went, of course! After all, who doesn't love a good ballet adventure?

Speaking of adventures, there's another special treat I'm looking forward to: experiencing a ballet performance on the streets of New York City! From the subway station to Central Park, I hear whispers of ballet street performances happening around every corner. Can you believe it? Street ballerinas in this bustling city? It’s almost enough to make my head spin! And my heart flutter, just a little. 😍

New York, I'm ready for you! From glamorous ballet shows to thrilling street performances, I'm soaking up every moment, wearing my pink tutu with pride, and adding a touch of magic to every corner of this incredible city. Join me on this magical adventure as we twirl our way through the Big Apple! Stay tuned for more pink tutu-filled fun and fashion!

The Fashion File:

Look 1:

  • Outfit: For today's exploration, it's a simple, chic black jumpsuit with a vibrant fuchsia silk scarf. (Who needs jewellery with a pink tutu? 😉 )

  • Shoes: Sparkly, comfy silver ballet flats for navigating the cobblestone streets of Greenwich Village (and dodging those infamous NYC taxis!).

  • Pink Tutu: The bubblegum pink sequin dream mentioned above. (Just gotta flaunt it!)

    The Itinerary:

Monday (October 12th):

  • Morning: Early arrival at Penn Station - wow! My very first glimpse of the bustling energy of the Big Apple. I found myself instantly mesmerised.
  • Afternoon: Wander through the shops and cafes of Greenwich Village. So many cool vintage finds! (There was even a beautiful turquoise tutu!)
  • Evening: A well-deserved cuppa tea at a quaint café tucked away on a side street (it came with the most adorable little heart shaped biscuit).
  • Night: The Nutcracker at the Metropolitan Opera House! A night of true enchantment.
