Pink Tutu Blog NYC: Post #196 - A Dance Through the Big Apple

Monday 8th March 1999

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger, Emma, reporting live from the fabulous, exhilarating, and oh-so-inspiring New York City!

I'm here on a whirlwind trip, fueled by a combination of passion for dance, a love for exploring new cities, and an overflowing wardrobe of pink tutus that simply need to be showcased in the Big Apple. And believe me, New York is the perfect backdrop!

This city pulsates with an energy that's impossible to ignore. Even as I write this, from my tiny, but perfectly pink, hotel room overlooking Central Park, I can hear the rumble of the yellow cabs, the chatter of people going about their day, and the distant sounds of a street performer's violin. It's a symphony of life, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

My Journey Begins

I touched down in the bustling JFK airport, tutu, of course, strategically tucked away in my suitcase. I mean, a girl can't be caught dead travelling to New York without her signature pink tulle! Once I was safely inside my taxi, I knew this trip was going to be something special. I could feel it in my bones, the energy of this incredible city pulsing through my very being.

My first stop was the infamous Times Square, that dazzling beacon of neon lights and flashing advertisements. Stepping out of the taxi and into the heart of the action, I felt a little bit like I was walking into a movie scene. The lights were so bright, they seemed to blind me, but in the best possible way. The energy was so contagious, I couldn't help but burst into a spontaneous pirouette. After all, how else would you truly appreciate the dazzling lights?

Shopping in the City That Never Sleeps

Now, no trip to New York would be complete without a little retail therapy, and trust me, I am on the hunt for the most fabulous fashion finds! Yesterday, I spent a gloriously indulgent afternoon at Bloomingdale's. I must admit, it was hard not to succumb to the temptation of buying every single pair of shoes in the place, but I managed to reign myself in. I do have a weakness for sparkly heels, and let's just say my collection was expanded significantly thanks to Bloomingdale's incredible shoe department!

Of course, a visit to New York is not complete without a visit to Saks Fifth Avenue. Now, if you haven't yet had the pleasure of shopping in this department store, you must add it to your bucket list immediately. Their designer clothing department is absolutely heavenly, and it's the perfect place to find that statement piece to complete your wardrobe. I just had to grab a pair of pink, crystal embellished shoes, perfect for a night out dancing in this dazzling city.

Ballet in the Big Apple

Of course, the main reason for my trip is ballet, and New York has not disappointed! Last night, I saw the most stunning performance of Swan Lake at the Metropolitan Opera House. The dancers were absolutely breathtaking. The costumes, the music, the sheer emotion of the story โ€“ it was everything I'd dreamed of and more! The applause went on forever. I'm pretty sure my little pirouette in the second row after the performance was the highlight for those around me, haha!

And it doesn't stop there. Tonight, I am attending a Broadway performance of Cats, and oh my goodness, I just can't wait! I've always loved the music, the costumes, the whole quirky vibe of the show. I'm just so excited to see it on stage.

But even before my Broadway experience, I'm so thrilled to have booked a spot at the American Ballet Theatre Studio in the city. Learning new steps, stretching, pushing my limits โ€“ nothing quite compares to the thrill of dance! I am so eager to share photos with you next week!

A World of Pink and Tutu

And of course, I couldn't come to New York City without spreading my love of pink tutus! You may be thinking, 'New York? Surely it's not all about the pink tutu?' Oh my dear, you clearly haven't been paying attention to my blog! Pink tutus are a universal language, they transcend borders and cultural barriers, they express the inner child in each of us. This is what I strive for - the freedom to wear whatever makes your heart sing, be it a vibrant pink tutu, a sleek power suit, or even a comfy pair of pyjamas. Life's too short to wear boring clothes!

To my delight, I spotted another pink tutu enthusiast while I was grabbing a delicious (and incredibly oversized) bagel for breakfast at a cafe near Central Park. I, of course, complimented her tutu (and her very cute little dog). We had a delightful chat, and I was happy to share my passion with someone who understood. Who knows, maybe she'll even visit my website and start her own pink tutu adventures.

The Metro Magic

One thing I've particularly loved about New York is the metro. Imagine my delight when I found a train stop decorated entirely in pink! It was just the sweetest surprise. Of course, I had to capture it with my camera for you, my lovely readers. My next stop is to visit a metro station designed after a ballet theme. Just the thought of stepping onto a train adorned with ballerinas makes my heart flutter!

Travel Tips

I know you're all eager to come to New York too, so I thought I'd share some of my travel tips! My advice? Firstly, pack light. Secondly, wear comfortable shoes โ€“ you'll be doing a lot of walking in this city! Most importantly, bring your spirit of adventure!

And don't forget your pink tutu!

Stay tuned, my dear readers. I will keep you updated on my whirlwind adventure. I know the coming weeks are going to be absolutely filled with unforgettable memories, laughter, new discoveries, and lots and lots of pink!

Much love,

Emma x

PS For those of you curious about what's happening in New York on 8th March, it's International Women's Day. I thought it was fitting to be in the Big Apple for this important day. And there are numerous celebrations going on in the city, from talks about women's rights to exhibitions showcasing women in art, music, and business. New York always embraces progress with open arms, and I'm excited to be a part of it!

P.P.S I may or may not have purchased a cute, pink little tutu for my new Yorkie pup back in England...just thought I'd let you know! ๐Ÿ˜‰

P.P.P.S I have just booked a last-minute ticket to a gala performance at the Lincoln Center, so be prepared for a photoshoot worthy of this legendary hall!
