Pink Tutu Blog NYC - Post #201: Twirling Through the Big Apple
Hello my darling tutu enthusiasts! Itās Monday again, which means a brand new post from yours truly, straight from the heart of New York City! Can you believe itās April already? Spring has definitely sprung, the sunshineās peeking through the skyscrapers, and Iām feeling all sorts of joyful and optimistic. Itās time to embrace those brighter colours, and of course, whatās more joyful and optimistic than a fabulous pink tutu?
This weekās post is all about twirling, shopping, and everything in between. Get ready to indulge your inner ballerina, because weāre about to embark on a truly magical adventure through the concrete jungle!
A Journey by Metro
Now, letās talk about the best thing about this fabulous city - the subway. Itās a vibrant, bustling hub, full of so much life. And you can bet Iāve already scoped out the best places to don my pink tutu and catch the attention of all the fellow travellers. Remember to mind your skirt when entering the carriages, girls. We wouldn't want to get caught in any door closures! Itās all about graceful movement, darlings!
This weekend I boarded the A train down to Greenwich Village, ready for a spot of shopping at one of my favourite boutiques, āLa Vie en Rose.ā You just canāt beat those quaint, cobblestone streets lined with the most amazing independent shops. I snagged the cutest little pink cardigan, adorned with dainty sequins, that's absolutely screaming "Spring has sprung!"
On Broadway: The Art of Theatre
Oh my goodness! This weekend I went to see "Cats" on Broadway. This show is pure genius ā full of amazing choreography, fabulous costumes, and such an energetic atmosphere. You can almost feel the joy in the air. The music is just glorious. The "Jellicle Ball" scene is especially breathtaking, and the moment when they climb onto that gigantic, starry-eyed Cat, I mean, it's enough to send shivers down your spine! It really just captured my imagination.
After the show, I made my way down 42nd Street to catch a bite at this fabulous French cafĆ© I've been dying to try. Thereās nothing more charming than enjoying a warm, flaky croissant on a Parisian balcony ā except perhaps, of course, with a magnificent view of Times Square. The Parisian ambience makes it such a unique experience in the heart of this big city.
Ballerina in the Big Apple
Being a ballerina, of course, I had to see the City Center on 55th Street. It's just incredible. All those beautiful marble pillars, glittering lights, and that majestic staircase. I just felt myself twirling, feeling like a true princess of the ballet world. Oh, and let's not forget those famous yellow cabs! Whatās a New York story without a taxi ride? I was feeling extra whimsical, so I chose the most stylish cab with all those charming bright pink lights ā like a twinkling mobile, darling. I took a drive through Central Park, imagining the trees swaying to the music of a magical ballet.
A Taste of Home in New York City
Although New York City is a wonderful melting pot of different cultures, I'm always hankering for some good old-fashioned Derbyshire comfort food. On Saturday night, I ventured out to "The English Rose", a little gem I discovered tucked away on West 10th Street. Itās known for its traditional British fare - delicious bangers and mash, classic shepherd's pie, and good old-fashioned fish and chips, all with a modern twist. And don't even get me started on their warm apple crumble! Itās the perfect way to get a little taste of home whilst exploring the New York scene.
Inspiring Young Ballerinas
This weekend, I took a trip to the beautiful Dance Theatre of Harlem. Itās such a remarkable establishment that offers incredible classes, showcases brilliant talent, and most importantly, fosters dreams. My favourite part was being able to witness the pure joy in the eyes of those young, talented dancers. Their enthusiasm and dedication are infectious!
You can see the pure magic of dancing reflected in their eyes. These talented kids were definitely getting a great ballet education ā so much dedication, talent, and inspiration. Just remember, darlings, ballet is for everyone. You donāt need to be a professional to feel that wonderful sense of grace and beauty within your heart. Just go out and express yourself through dance!
From the Studio to the City
Remember, you don't need to be a seasoned professional to appreciate the beautiful art of ballet. Thereās a magical connection that makes it universally loved ā even amidst the bustling metropolis that is New York City!
As always, thank you for joining me on my ballet journey through the city. Until next Monday, stay fabulous and keep your heads high! Don't forget to add a touch of pink to your day! Iām off to explore the new boutique, "Pretty in Pink" - can't wait to see what treasures I unearth there!
Xoxo, Emma
