Pink Tutu Blog: NYC - Monday 9th August 1999 (Post #218)

Hey lovelies!

It's Emma here, back from the dazzling streets of New York City. I know, I know, it's been a while since my last post, but trust me, this trip was packed with so much magic, I needed time to soak it all in. This time, New York really felt like my second home, and trust me, it's a very special home indeed!

As you know, I fund my travels through my passion - ballet! It's how I manage to keep this little blog going and how I can keep venturing out into the world. Last month, I took on a couple of gigs with the English National Ballet's tour, so a hefty chunk of my salary found its way into my suitcase. Plus, I had a few fun little performances at private events and even a quick gig as a ballerina in a theatre production. (Shhh, don't tell anyone, but I totally managed to snag the lead in a scene!) It wasn't the real lead, mind you, but the other dancer got a little cough under the weather cough, and let's just say, Emma was more than happy to take centre stage!

So, without further ado, let's delve into the wonders of this trip. Buckle up, darlings, it's going to be a colourful ride.

The New York Underground

Now, you know me. I adore a good public transport system. Something about those metal-framed trains with the bright neon lights gets my inner ballerina all flustered and excited. I mean, come on! What's more exciting than hopping onto the train and watching the city glide by? Every turn of the wheels is a journey to somewhere new, and it’s all about the adventures! The NYC subway is a dream, with a vintage charm I adore. Plus, the people watching is brilliant.

For this trip, I embraced the colours of the city. My trusty fuchsia pink tutu is, of course, always with me, but this time, I paired it with my bold blue vintage jacket that's covered in the coolest sparkly gems (the real kind, not those tacky stick-on ones!) And I had to find a pair of sky-high white heels for my dancing on the train routine! I’ve got a whole repertoire I pull out at random, but that’s a story for another time!

Broadway Brilliance

This week, New York lived up to all the hype. On Monday, I headed down to Broadway to see "Phantom of the Opera". Oh, how dramatic! I love those grand performances with the gorgeous costumes. I’m hoping I can snag a spot in a big stage show someday. And yes, I wore a pale pink tutu, with some black net to keep me looking classy and elegant, of course!

Fashion Fairytale

The shopping in New York City is a whole different ball game! I swear, this city is like a huge couture ball. I made a trip to Saks Fifth Avenue, and oh, the designer outfits! My head was spinning! Of course, I’m always keeping an eye out for anything pink and glittery (and a little bit ballerina-inspired), and let’s just say, I scored a couple of must-haves for my wardrobe. You guys have to wait until next week to find out what I picked!

A Ballerina's Paradise

But you know me, I can’t just shop till I drop. It wouldn't be a trip to New York City without a bit of ballet! I found a studio on the Upper West Side called Dance Theatre of Harlem and signed up for an open class. It was tough, darling, but you know I love a good challenge. And it wasn’t all sweating and panting. I got a chance to watch some beautiful ballet pieces by budding dancers, and honestly, there were a couple who had the most gorgeous technique. I’d love to see what they do in a few years!

You can never have too many ballet shoes! And in New York, the shops literally bursting with the best ones. I’ve always said, the best ballerinas have the best shoes, so I had to pick up a couple of new pairs while I was there. (And because I’m completely insane, I decided I needed the silver-toned sparkly ones, even though I can barely walk in those stilettos!)

More Than Meets the Eye

Now, remember how I said this trip had a magical touch? It wasn't just about shopping and ballet! There's a little secret I’m itching to tell you about, but I want to keep you hanging for another week, okay? So, be sure to check back in for more updates on what I’ve been up to and, of course, all the amazing photos I've captured!

Until next time, my lovelies. Stay stylish, keep dancing, and always, always remember, life’s better in pink (tutu)!

Love,

Emma

This week has been busy, but don't worry, I have lots to share with you! It’s going to be another colourful and inspiring post filled with, you guessed it, pink!

For the blog readers in New York, I will be popping by a special event on Wednesday in honour of all things pink and ballet! It's going to be fabulous. Trust me!

And as you know, I'll be keeping my ears and eyes open for the best new ballet shows in town.

Remember, darling, keep checking this blog and stay inspired by the pink tutu!

I’ll talk to you soon!
