#PinkTutuBlogNYC - New York, New York! (Post 223)

Hello my darling tutu-loving friends!

It's Monday again, which means it's time for another instalment of #PinkTutuBlogNYC! This week, I'm back in the Big Apple, ready to share all the glitz, glamour and of course the pinkest of pink, New York City has to offer.

Oh, New York! This city has my heart! Every single time I step off the metro onto the streets of Manhattan, my chest swells with excitement. From the iconic yellow taxis to the bustling street vendors, it's like a whirlwind of sensory delights. But, the best part? New York is a city that just gets tutus. They don't just tolerate them, they celebrate them. Whether I'm spinning through the streets of Greenwich Village or dancing in a performance at Lincoln Center, I always feel a special kind of confidence, and I've never been afraid to twirl in my pink tutu!

And let's be honest, my life wouldn't be half as glamorous without this pink tutu. My pink tutu is my lucky charm, it's my identity, it's a part of me, and every week, it takes me on adventures around the world!

This week, my latest trip is funded by my very own performance. Can you believe it? A Derbyshire girl, twirling her way across the stage and paying her way across the world! My mum's face, oh my, she is so proud! It's a dream come true and every show is like an extra adventure added to my repertoire. I even had a woman come up to me after my performance this weekend and say "My dear, that was divine! And I simply must have one of those!" You can bet she’s going to be browsing our Pink Tutu online store as we speak!

I'm still trying to make sense of my crazy weekend here, so join me as I break down all the best bits and, of course, all the things I absolutely loved wearing.

Let's Talk Fashion:

I always say, "fashion is about finding your own personal style and expressing it to the world," and that's exactly what I did this weekend. Now, the weather's starting to cool down and we are deep into fall season in New York, so it’s all about layering with cozy yet chic outerwear. And who says we can’t layer a tutu?! It's my favorite time of year for fashion, because I can indulge in all things knitwear, faux fur and velvet, while still making it tutu-tastic.

You might think layering a tutu could be tricky but you would be surprised! My favourite trick is adding a pair of thigh high suede boots or tights to finish the look and make it suitable for a crisp fall afternoon.

  • This weekend I found a beautiful emerald green, suede jacket at a vintage shop on Bleecker Street. It looked perfect with a soft, white lace tutu - just the right mix of feminine and edgy! I styled it with some sleek black boots and a cute pink, polka dot, velvet beret (yes, you heard that right!)
  • And on Sunday, I wore my go-to white, cashmere sweater (which always has its rightful place in any self-respecting ballerina's wardrobe). This sweater is incredibly cosy and comfortable, but I added a splash of fun with a pink, silk tulle tutu underneath! Just a touch of glitz, no matter how chilly it gets!

    Where I Dined:

    • Astor Place: On Friday night, my dear friend, the ever-stylish (and fabulous!) Emily and I made our way to Momofuku Noodle Bar, a little haven of Asian comfort food. The menu is packed with creative takes on traditional dishes and it is always packed. We both loved the ramen bowls and their famous pork buns - I might have actually devoured five, if that tells you anything about my love of the place!

      • Little Italy: Saturday afternoon I indulged in the real deal, authentic Italian, right in Little Italy. We ate in a sweet, red tablecloth and candlelight-filled Italian trattoria - an experience that I loved so much I am not sharing the name (just like a true New Yorker!) Just trust me on this, delicious.

What I Did:

  • Friday, Sept. 10th: We hit up a fabulous Metropolitan Opera House performance and saw Verdi’s opera, "La Traviata" at the Metropolitan Opera. The sets were stunning, the singing divine. The best part, though, was when my eyes were completely captivated by a fellow theatregoer wearing a gorgeous, bright red tutu. You bet we met up afterwards and traded outfit inspiration! I simply adore meeting other pink tutu lovers on my travels, it always makes the experience extra special!

    • Saturday, September 11th: On this, such a momentous day, we strolled around the heart of New York City, taking in the historical landmark that is the World Trade Centre memorial and taking time to reflect and honour all the victims of this horrible event, remembering those lives so tragically lost. A monument and tribute that was very sobering but impactful.

      • Sunday, September 12th: A much needed lazy Sunday morning and then a relaxing evening out with Emily to watch “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” performed by the Shakespeare in the Park Theatre. I felt very much like a tourist but still loved every second, particularly as we watched under a beautiful night sky and twinkling city lights.

    My New York Tip :

A good pair of comfy shoes. Trust me on this. Walking around NYC, even for a single day, is enough to turn your feet into jelly! You need comfortable and stylish, so my favorite pair of pink ballet shoes have definitely been seeing a lot of wear and tear this week. I've already put on miles this week, and even in the coolest outfits, I love knowing my feet are feeling fresh and looking fab in those little pink ballerina pumps.

And let’s not forget that the most important thing in my world, right alongside ballet, is bringing joy and happiness to others and showing that it is okay to express yourself through your style and confidence. I encourage you all to explore, take risks, and embrace what makes your heart sing, because if we don't do that, we aren't truly living, now are we?

Remember my friends, everyone can dance in a pink tutu and in New York City, you never know where your next dance adventure will take you.

Until next week!

Keep twirling and stay pink!
