Pink Tutu Blog: New York City Edition - Post #231

Monday, November 8th, 1999

Hello darlings!

It's Monday, which means it's time for another exciting installment of Pink Tutu Blog straight from the vibrant streets of New York City! I've been flitting around the city like a sugared butterfly, embracing the energy, the sights, the sounds, and, of course, the absolutely dazzling fashion!

Iā€™m already well aware that Iā€™ve spoken about the sheer delight that is New York City many, many times on this blog (my darling readers, you just can't get enough of it, can you?). But oh, I have a feeling that every trip to this spectacular city offers a brand new adventure ā€“ an adventure to discover, to share, to be awed by! This city is bursting with the most delightful shops, fantastic Broadway shows, incredible street performances, and oh, so many places to see and to be seen.

But before I launch into the whirlwind of adventures Iā€™ve enjoyed over the past week, allow me to give a little shout-out to all you wonderful Pink Tutu Blog readers back home in Derbyshire! Remember, I fund my city adventures through performing ballet at prestigious events. So please do come along to the "Spring Dance Showcase" at the Matlock Town Hall this coming Saturday! Tickets are selling like hot cakes, and the whole ensemble is absolutely raring to go! (I've just got to share that my beautiful, bespoke, blush-pink tutu will be making its first public outing this Saturday ā€“ fingers crossed the applause wonā€™t send me floating all the way to the ceiling! ).

Speaking of captivating events, thatā€™s exactly what led me to this magical city. As you know, New York City is a magnet for every imaginable performance, from the grandeur of Broadway to the thrilling pulse of street dancing. So it goes without saying that this week, I simply had to attend one of the most famous and hotly anticipated events: The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater season.

Oh my dear readers, you simply must take it from me, this event was beyond brilliant! A performance in its truest, most raw and electrifying form. The choreography was divine - breathtaking and heart-stopping all at the same time. And the dancers? Just exquisite! Each and every movement told a story, expressed emotion, and brought tears to my eyes. If ever you get the chance to see the Alvin Ailey company perform, do it! Itā€™s worth every penny!

Speaking of brilliant events, my afternoon has just been gloriously brightened with a most delicious surprise! An old school friend, Rosalind, who lives in Brooklyn, got in touch out of the blue. Sheā€™d read about my adventures in this fascinating city in Pink Tutu Blog and invited me to attend a ā€œFashion & Frocksā€ tea party sheā€™s organised to celebrate the end of her latest art exhibition!

Oh, I must tell you, darlings, it was delightful! We spent the afternoon sipping on delicate Earl Grey tea and nibbling on exquisitely crafted cupcakes (one with a pink rose made entirely of frosting! - you should see the pictures!). Of course, our conversations focused heavily on Rosalind's fascinating collection of paintings - abstract and filled with life! It really put me in the mood to hit the shops after all that inspiration. I've been on the hunt for the perfect dress to wear for our trip to the theatre next week and found a delightful shade of pastel lilac that just begs to be adorned with a bright pink scarf. Speaking of fashionā€¦

Now, darling readers, let me paint a picture of what my own Pink Tutu New York experience has looked like this week. A few days ago, as I took my usual walk down Lexington Avenue, what did my eyes behold? An entire shop window display filled with absolutely divine frocks! Each and every piece was a masterpiece, oozing the very essence of glamour. But what caught my eye in particular? Oh my dears, a stunning pink tutu ā€“ just begging for a new owner to give it the whirl of its life! I just had to have it! My love affair with tutus, after all, transcends mere fabric and dance!

Later, as the sun began to set over the Hudson River, I indulged in one of New York's truly delicious traditions: a picnic in Central Park! There was a beautiful autumn breeze sweeping through the leaves, a crispness in the air that perfectly complemented my homemade cranberry scone and a glass of champagne. It was in those golden moments, amongst the chirping squirrels and graceful birdsong, that the city seemed to whisper to meā€¦ a gentle, alluring whisper that reminded me how lucky I am to be on this amazing adventure, wearing my trusty pink tutu and discovering this city at my own sweet pace.

And as I make my way back to my hotel room, I think to myself, wouldnā€™t it be glorious if everyone in the world was brave enough to wear a pink tutu? It wouldnā€™t be a dance performance per se, no. Rather, an embrace of color, of joy, and of unbridled joy. Wouldn't the world be a brighter, kinder, more beautiful place with a little bit of pink tutu magic woven in?

Itā€™s getting late, darlings, and Iā€™ve still got a very exciting list of things to look forward to: tomorrow Iā€™m visiting the American Museum of Natural History (oh, do you think the T-Rex has any favourite colour? Maybe pink, after all? Iā€™ll keep you all updated!), and the following day, itā€™s a Broadway show ā€“ "The Phantom of the Opera"! So much to look forward to.

Do leave your own thoughts and stories for me in the comments section below. What pink tutu dreams are dancing in your heart today?

Until next time, remember: Lifeā€™s a performance, so put on your most beautiful smile, your best pair of pink ballet shoes, and twirl your way into every opportunity!

Love always,

Emma, Pink Tutu Blog xx
