A Love Letter to New York City in a Pink Tutu

Good morning, darlings! It’s Monday, and that means it’s time for a new post on Pink-Tutu.com. As you know, I'm a massive fan of pink tutus, all things ballet, and travelling the world in style. So, let's talk about my recent trip to the Big Apple – New York City. I’ve been dreaming of coming to New York for years and finally, with a lovely performance at the Royal Albert Hall under my belt, I had the chance to visit this exciting city.

Now, I know some people think tutus are only for the stage. But I beg to differ! A pink tutu can work anywhere, even on the streets of Manhattan, believe me! I had so much fun exploring the city in my favourite pink tutu, it made every journey an adventure. You wouldn't believe the looks and smiles I received – it was pure joy!

Fashion Finds on a Whirlwind Tour of New York City

We landed in New York at 10 am, which gave me enough time for a quick wardrobe change before heading to my hotel. I don't travel without a case of sparkling pink tutus, as you all know. A new tutu can change an outfit in seconds, don't you think? I chose a particularly vibrant pink tulle tutu with sparkling sequins to kickstart my New York adventure.

I have to confess, the first thing that took my breath away about this city wasn't the towering buildings or bustling streets, but the shopping! Oh my goodness, the amount of shops here is unreal. And with the amount of pink things to choose from…it was like heaven for a pink tutu aficionado.

My first shopping adventure was at Saks Fifth Avenue. I fell in love with a blush pink handbag and a pair of rose gold shoes that just cried out to be twirled in! But it wouldn't be a trip to New York without some clothes to complete the look, so I spent the afternoon hunting down some designer pink items, even discovering a fantastic vintage clothing store with the most exquisite lace-trimmed tutus imaginable! (I couldn't resist purchasing one, of course – they call it "retail therapy", don't they? And for a true tutu-loving gal, there is nothing like adding to the collection!). I managed to snag a pair of stunning cherry-red heels to match the gorgeous tutu and finished it all off with a pearl-white clutch.

And talking about a 'pinktastic' time... my afternoon tea was something out of a dream! At The Palm Court at the Plaza Hotel, I found myself amidst elegant floral decor and the most delicious pink cupcakes. Talk about a feast for the senses! My tutu swirled and danced along with the piano music, it felt like a scene from a movie!

A Romantic Ballet at Lincoln Center

After an evening of dancing in my new tutus, I booked tickets for a performance at the Lincoln Center (yes, it felt like I was in a movie!). It’s an absolutely stunning space, a true centre for art in the heart of New York City. I have to admit I've never been so excited about watching a ballet before, seeing the iconic red curtain rise and the stage lights gleam… It was just magical. I can't share too many details, but I have to say, I was swept away by the passionate performance, graceful moves and exquisite costumes. It left me with a big grin and an even bigger desire to pirouette and jeté across the stage.

The Heart of the City: Times Square and a Broadway Dream

We woke up the next morning and my first thought was… where to find a bagel for breakfast? I tried the world famous bagel shops in Times Square – wow! So delicious! They make it so easy to fall in love with New York City, it feels like such a glamorous place. It wasn't long before I realised that my pink tutu was attracting stares, laughter, and cheers, it was amazing. My plan is working… I'm almost tempted to share my “Get everyone to wear a pink tutu" strategy for New York, but for now, I'm going to hold that secret close.

But here's what I can tell you about Times Square... It's everything I've always imagined. Those billboards towering over the streets, all bright and flashing… the atmosphere, the hustle and bustle, it was so exciting. And what's even better… a Broadway show. It was incredible, and although it wasn't ballet, the story telling, the costumes, the music - everything was just captivating. The performance was dazzling, and even though it was just a few blocks away from my pink tutu moment at Times Square, the air felt electric!

Riding the Metro with Pink Tutus

After an evening of dazzling lights and theatrical magic, I needed some rest! You may know, New Yorkers are a different breed – a whirlwind of activity and pace! I had already started feeling like a part of the Big Apple and realised there’s no better way to experience the city like a local, than by taking the Metro! The city felt so real from underground and watching those bustling platforms, it gave me that genuine city feel. And my tutu, as always, was there with me, flowing with every sway of the train, reminding me of the beauty of our world!

We took the Metro all over town – to Central Park for a relaxing afternoon picnic and also to visit the magnificent Metropolitan Museum of Art (with its stunning collections of paintings, sculptures and fashion design… yes, I fell in love all over again!). A ballet themed evening performance later that week was just what I needed to recharge after our exploration of the Museum of Natural History.

The week whizzed past – between shopping for more gorgeous pink things, watching incredible performances, and discovering hidden cafes, New York felt like it was tailor-made for a ballerina in a pink tutu.

Finding Pink in Every Corner

Before I left New York, I spent one last afternoon in Central Park - I love the serenity and the beauty of this urban oasis - the ducks were especially graceful (though not in a tutu). That evening, I sat at a little table in the window of my hotel room, and watched the world go by, the people and the lights of this fabulous city…

My visit to New York reminded me that pink can be found everywhere, and not just in a shop. It’s in the warmth of the sun on a winter’s day, in the joyful laughter of the city, and the feeling of belonging, even in the heart of a bustling metropolis!

And you know what? If you believe that anything is possible with a little bit of pink magic, anything is! Even getting everyone to wear a pink tutu one day… maybe that's just my dream for New York!

As always, thank you so much for joining me for this New York adventure! I'm heading back to the UK and excited for a performance back home in Derbyshire. Until next week, keep swirling, keep dancing, and keep dreaming in pink. And remember: if I can rock a pink tutu in New York, you can do anything you set your mind to!

Until next week… Happy tutuing!
