Pink Tutu Blog NYC: #249 - A Whirlwind of Dreams in the Big Apple š©°š
Hello my lovely darlings! It's Monday, and that means it's time for another Pink Tutu Blog post, straight from the heart of New York City! I've been dreaming of coming to this incredible city ever since I was a little girl, twirling around my bedroom in a homemade tutu. It seemed like a fairytale, full of sparkling lights, Broadway shows, and enough shopping to fill a hundred wardrobes! And guess what? My dreams have finally come true!
This week, I'm sharing with you all the exciting things I've been up to in this fabulous city. It's been a whirlwind of Broadway brilliance, delightful ballet classes, and some truly delicious cupcakes that have made me question my healthy eating plans... Just a tad!
But first, let me tell you a bit about this fantastic week in the Big Apple. You know, this whole travelling ballet dancer thing is like a dance itself. There are so many exciting things happening, so much to experience, it's hard to keep up! I had the incredible fortune to perform at a charity gala on Friday, showcasing my choreographed piece about a ballerina escaping from a fairytale. Iāll admit, seeing all those gorgeous faces staring up at me as I pirouetted and leaped through the airā¦ it was truly magic!
And how did I travel to this magnificent event, you ask? On the subway of course! Nothing beats zooming through the heart of the city on the metro. I mean, itās certainly quicker than hopping into a cabā¦ especially with this gorgeous pink tutu on! It does tend to cause a stir amongst the commuters, Iāll admit! But itās always great fun, bringing a little sparkle and joy into someoneās mundane commute. It's all part of spreading the pink tutu love, and you know what? The subway ride is a wonderful opportunity to people watch and soak up the New York vibe. Itās the perfect start to a night of dazzling performances!
Speaking of whichā¦ After the charity event, I was off to Broadway! Yes, I went to see āChicagoā! It was simply sensational. I was absolutely mesmerized by the dazzling costumes, the electrifying energy of the performers, and those legendary dance routines! The costumes, in particular, were beyond fabulous. I swear I spotted a pair of pink tutus (and not just the ones worn by the chorus dancers)! Who knew that āChicagoā was such a haven for pink tutus?
But back to New Yorkā¦
Itās been amazing soaking up the atmosphere, and I even had time for some ballet classes at the world-renowned Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre. Let me tell you, it was truly a humbling experience to be in that incredible space with so many incredibly talented dancers from all over the globe. Even though my nerves were a bit jittery, I actually danced quite well! My tutus definitely caught the eye of a few dancers, too. So far, I haven't succeeded in persuading any New Yorkers to take on the tutu, but hey, it's a work in progress, darling!
Shopping adventures, of course, are a must! And letās just say New York did not disappoint. So many vintage treasures, darling! I found this incredible vintage pink fur coat (can you even believe it? In the summer, itās all about contrasts!). Iām definitely going to add it to my collection of fabulous tutus. And who knows? Perhaps the fur coat will add a touch of glitz and glam to a few future performances! It could work, donāt you think?
Of course, I found a whole range of tutus to take home. It wouldn't be a trip to New York without bringing a few more pieces of this fabulous city back with me! I even found a magnificent collection of vintage dresses for my ballet classes in Derby. It would be rude not to pick some of them up, donāt you think?
After a day of shopping, what's better than a good old fashioned cup of tea with my diary in hand? Well, maybe it's not what most New Yorkers do after a day of exploring this fantastic city. But hey, a girl's got to stay true to her roots! You wouldn't catch me without my cuppa! As I sip my Earl Grey (I never go for anything less) I get so many new ideas for the Pink Tutu Blog.
But hereās the real deal, darling:
*The highlight of this trip wasn't Broadway, nor was it the magnificent ballet class! It was the most unexpected thingā¦ a walk in Central Park. Thatās right, darling. Central Park, full of joggers and touristsā¦ and me, wearing my trusty tutu. *
And you know what? It was pure joy!
Honestly, walking around the park with the sunlight dancing on my pink tutuā¦ I can't even explain the feeling! The world simply felt lighter and more beautiful. Itās one of those life experiences that stays with you.
And honestly? The reaction was simply adorable. People kept saying, āYou're the pink ballerina! Youāre amazing!ā, with bright smiles and a sense of sheer happiness radiating from them. Even the street artists had their pencils and sketchbooks out, sketching me! My dear friend Anna, who I met through a fellow ballerina on the subway, even told me that a group of photographers kept looking in my direction and I was a "popular muse". My heart truly did dance that day, darling.
Now, I'm getting a little teary-eyed just thinking about it, but I really have to go now. I have so much to tell my blog readers about New York, and I want to keep it real for all you tutu lovers! This place is incredible, and it's only just the beginning. You've seen how I twirled in Central Parkā¦ wait until you see what I'm doing in Times Square next week! You just need to trust me, darling. Pink tutus truly are magical. And youāll see how incredible New York is through my eyes, wearing my favorite shade of pink and, of course, a very special pink tutu, just for you!
Stay fabulous and keep twirling! š©°āØ
